Putting all this information together you can now go to France have a big feast of snails, buy a cheap WW11 rifle, shoot lots of Frenchies and if your a good shot ,get the first Scorpa 250 four stroke .

    Disc Sizes

Your disc on the Scorpa is much narrower,(only 14mm or 9/16" in width of surface area) to all the other discs. I'm sure you will find you have the wrong pads fitted.

    Front Wheel

PA. you are certainly an talented industrious fellow, judging by that front wheel conversion. Those skills must be a blessing with your current machinery OK OK I'm off to Bed.

    4rt Noise Shock!

Next time Munch ,Stay focussed and keep your line.... those daydreamers make good traction material
  9. Hey craftypiggy, No pads come standard with copper grease. Most likely the owner had a problem with the disc pads squealling and has put a smear of copper grease on contact area between piston and the back of the brake pad to remedy this annoying squeal. As Shercool noted, if it is more than a tiny smear when the braking pads heat up the excess grease then runs and contaminates the braking surface, rendering them useless.

    Gearbox Level

I have been changing my selector drum every six months and my oil every twelve months. Do you think if I was to change my oil every six months the selector drum could be left a bit longer.
  11. Hey Lloyd, Seeing this is your first major rebuild it would probably best to attempt one area at a time. If you start by setting your bike up securely on bike stand ( Mine is 24"high ) this is a good working height to comfortably access most areas with out too much bending or kneeling. If you start by removing your front wheel to check the wheel bearings. Once the wheel is out stick your finger through the bearing one side at a time and rotate your finger to see if it is running smooth and free.If you can feel a gritty or grinding sensation it time to replace them.Another way if there is some one handy, is to put a finger through from each side and get friend to rotate wheel with your fingers acting as the axle, again it will be easy to tell if they are due for renewal. This same proceedure can be used on the rear wheel as well. With the rear wheel now out,use the swing arms as handle bars and lift up and down to see if there is any free play in your swing arm bushes and also any free play in the shock pivot areas. If you spot any excess movement in any of these points it is a good indication they will need attention. I use a marine multi-purpose grease on all bearings on my bike and it has worked well for me. When working on your bike ,set plenty of time aside to do the job properly,so if you do run into a problem there is no rush to put it back together if an unexpected part is required. Hope this helps a bit....
  12. The difference between a TYZ and Scorpa is so different in every department. Having ridden the very first 1984 TY 250 mono and up dating to a new TY each year for 6 years I have always been a Yamaha Diehard.Had a break till 1991 season and was assured a Beta was the way to go,mid way through that year I had my first ride on a TY 250 pinkie and immediatly knew I,d bought the wrong bike for me. In 92 changed to a TY 250 pinkie and loved it. At the beginning of 93 bought a new TYZ 250 and only kept it for two months and replaced it with another pinkie. The TYZ was not for me.It was too heavy. no steering lock, every time you rode it you ended up with bruised sore knees from the wide frame.. Compared to a pinkie I found it a dinasoar to ride, energy consuming and just so unresponsive suspension wise. The water cooled motor was certainly an improvement on the air cooled for keeping it at a more consistant idle, and it has proven to be one of the most reliable motors ever. For the next two years I purchased a New TY 250 pinkie and was the happiest trials rider round. Then the Yamaha importers told me there would be no more available as they had stopped production. I was not comfortable with the more aggressive power of the european bikes,so I purchased three new Japanese versions of the pinkie and stored them away, which I thought was a good idea at the time...if I got two years out of each bike that would take me up to 2001 ...surely something that I liked would come along by then, if I was still able to ride a bike. In 2000 there was talk of Scorpa releasing there new SY 250 with a TYZ motor.Got in contact with Scorpa importer an put my name on it .Im now on my fifth SY 250 and love them better than any other new bike available. Scorpas even though they have a 12 plus year old motor are obviously over looked by many because they have no name riders competing on them in the world rounds. These bikes are not world championship machinery, but they are the easiest, gentlest most unintimidating bikes to ride. There power can be increased or decreased so quickly and easily with addition of flywheel weights ,a slow throttle or timing change. There suspension for the vast majority of riders is more than adequate, finding traction in the slippy conditions so well and being so plush nimble and sure footed in loose or rocky terrain. The only problem I,ve encounted was the 03 foot pegs being to frail and easily snapped. The ease of starting and low maintanance is also a big winner. It amazes me to see so many young riders, especially girls being put onto the more aggressive 2 stroke machines after growing out of there Ty 80,s or similar and are clearly frightened by their new mount,I think a lot of Dads are too bike loyal to think of there child not riding the brand they ride. So the best thing to do is have a ride and draw your own conclusion....Where all looking for what suits the best to your riding style and ABILITY.
  13. Check your pad wear....they may be due for renewal.

Hey Big John. Funny you should say that....was trying to think who he reminded me of. Trouble is if we can remember Benny Hill that fresh faced we had better stay away from the mirror.... The avitor for boofont before his current Bruce Lee cruncher reminded me of Elton John...Sir.

    Montesa 4rt

Hey BS can you send me your conversion table. mine is way out, Around this neck of the woods you get your girlfriend "up the spout" Not your maths
  17. Had my first ride today on a new 4RT with the exhaust restricters out.It is very clear why the three Montesa riders are struggling to do well on the indoor sections. Even with the Factory works improvements it seems to me they will struggle to generate the standing start thrust that is required.Given just a bikes length from the obstacle they still need that little extra distance for the momentum to be achieved for the high verticals.....this is where the 2T power excells. That said,it is a very easy power to come to terms with and its sure footed gentle traction builds your confidence quickly. Looking forward to the new Sherco and 250 Scorpa 4S so well can get a better gauge on the Monty. The noise factor when you crack it on certainly is a bit of a worry.
  18. I always thought at machinery inspection there was something wrong, waved my straight through every time. Even riding the easy line in a section nobody would follow me...... The observers seemed to have red faces and didn't talk at all....yes you guessed, they where holding there breath. But since I started using Napi San all that has changed. The best I've found by far, after each ride, rinse helmet with clean water, then refill helmet with water and add a half cap of Napi San,swish around so all linings are saturated, leave for 10 minutes ,rinse again with fresh water then hang out to dry.It is antibacterial and has a fresh fragrance. Leaves your helmet smelling sweet as..... every time.
  19. Can you you imagine what a SCORPA plate would be worth ..... Jeez Kinell you had better firmly attach those plates to your vehicle if your leaving it in the car park at the SSDT......Can see them hanging on the garage work shop wall of some crafty little piggy
  20. Hey Robee, you mention Mike Komer ... back in the prehistoric times I remember a a Kurt Komer ? Comer ? not sure of the spelling, who was a gun rider, any one else know of him or if he still rides.

    Scorpa Sy250

How good is that. Well done Marky. To protect your swing arm stickers from boot rub I use transperant 3M tape, the 1mm thick gauge. It is very pliable so it can wrap right around the top and bottom edge so the boot has no edge to catch on.Also cover the exposed air box to stop the abrasive action of mud and grit from your boot.

    4rt Tickover

Hey oz thumper, something seems a bit fishy here.......how did you get Allan off that new bike.
  23. I'm amphidextrous,I've tried riding both left handed and right handed and find I have a much greater degree of control in forward motion right handed than I have facing backwards riding left handed. But to be fair,I dont practise my left hand riding as much as I should because my Minder won't hold my rear vision mirror steady enough for me to get a good line. To get a more accurate indication I really should turn the handle bars around so the throttle is on the left. I won't vote Bil....M4RT,till I'm sure which is the best for me.
  24. Great looking backyard Dennis, what gear you guys use in that type section. These bikes have only just landed in Australia, looking forward to a ride as well.
