  1. welcome to the dark side
  2. exactly BUT IIRC John Collins did mention this at CofC seminar, if you were to force everyone to go through the "begins" gate to five the section - what happens when its a huge drop off that is the whole reason for not wanting to do the section in the first place ? - you defeat the purpose!
  3. sword has hurt is back IIRC in the practice session on that sunday
  4. as above for saftey reason it would be unreasonable not to allow this opt out in MX the riders sign on saying they've walked the track and are competent to ride it not having that option might have certain ramifcations (but by all means wack it up to 10 if you want to - but you'ld have to change TSR-22A and B )
  5. have to admit we do at all (i thin) our trials - my bike fails regualry (lack of maintainence ) putting mr ACU hat on (and as a MX and enduro club) fundamental machine examination/scruitinering is checking for ***compliamce with rules***, its ***NOT*** a ssaftey check (although most items are odly saftey related) the onus is on the competitor to bring a safe bike to the event (its their saftey mianly) and for legal purposes that all we're doing (rule complinace not saftey) hope that is clear - in trials IIRC they're not even liscenced
  6. I was at a working party for Briths Champ MX that day, but my (younger) sister (125 honda) and dad (610, 570cc Husky) rode. Alan Woods is my cousin. Loads of others of the Sidcup mafia rode (John Coveney, Chris Clark, Mark Lavelle, Tom Parkin, Dave Parry, etc, etc) Now I'm 21, i really must get around to doing my direct access before they change the law! See you about soon
  7. washed my bike after a very wet and muddy trial on sunday. what we've done is wire up two hoses together from two water butts and plug it into the pressure washer. apparently there is a national shortage of taps and other bits for water butts though but as araf say get your kids to have a water fight. i believe the interpretation is down the to water company of some specifics, but ultimately its down to your neighbours to report you on the other hand MX rules let you pressure wash your bike at the venue, while trails rules say you can't
  8. nothing on the centre calander (http://www.trialsinfo.com/calendar/2006%20TRIALS%20DATES.htm) but there is a KYTC wobbler down (http://www.trialsinfo.com/calendar/calendar2006.htm) might be some club trials on, but i don't keep track of the dates for them
  9. - OK I'm afriad now we as a club never used to run many trials from Canada Heights as it wasn't great trials land, but with the demise of road trials plus our acquisition of the land has meant we've done quiet a bit of work. personally I'm not a good enough trails rider to enjoy the benefits of some of these sections (most of the stuff I've shown you is for inters and experts)

    Old School

some of the Americans (mototalk board) got hold of this off Google video (its circa 80mb) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3937192105627763529 its Canada Heights way back in the day and its the famous TV scramble that ended up on the 100 greatest sporting moments
  11. photos on trials info.com --> http://www.trialsinfo.com/events06/ronb/ro...mley/index.html
  12. more logs built into an artifical bank here a big ampipherete has been cut into the sand bank and logs have been held in aroudn to create steps hope all this gives you some idea, the ones i've shown show section for modern solos, i would have shown diffrent ones if you were after older bikes or sidecars photo credits - Cliff Barnett (Trials Info.com), Jeremey Roberts, Colin Parkin, Steve Potten and Jamie Clarke
  13. not how the lumps of concrete lay, especaily the lunch ramp on the far right note how the logs are in the gorund, its above the pit you saw earlier from a diffrent angle
  14. tree trunk lots of concrete (to make a "rock" section), the huge barrel thing was a long ago enginering atempt to flatten a field (to make a car park) - several thousand cars (big mx meetigns) and regular grass cutting did it in the end here is a bank we built for mx spectaros, we put lumps of concrete and tree trunks into it for trials
  15. have a look at most of our sections - we've man made most of them as there is very little natuaral stuff at Canada Heights! just check out the numerous photos on our website here are a few examples :- shows a sand section carved out by a machine (360 or JCB) shows a trench dug by a JCB with some concrete sleeper type things in them (we perodically rearrange the conrete) wall style jump made of fence posts and earth tree trunks and holes in a bank dug by machine
  16. don't worry mate, we all start somewhere
  17. very dedicated - over here we have problems getting people to go to a trial at the other end of our centre (100 miles ?) rabie
  18. Dougie was on "they think its all over" way back in the day IIRC, i also think they had a grass track sidecar on there once as well rabie
  19. putting on my semi local hat: trains; on one hand shrewsbury is nearest station but its right out of the way on the rail network (well unless you live in wales or the west midlands. best off getting a cross country of west coast train to stoke-on-trent (big mainline station), or even go to Crewe and get a train or bus (Ariva No 52 to Hanley) over to stoke. The X64 or just 64 (ariva) goes from Hanley bus station, stoke train station, newcastle (under lyme) down the A53 right to shrewsbury (the A53 is the main road the lane to Hawkstone is off). similarly if you're going to shrewbury this is the only bus out of shrewsbury (i think, unless one goes up the A49 to whitchurch) for timetables check out the arriva website (click north west) rabie
  20. yup north of the river is northern rabie
  21. bloody northern monkeys the SEC has produced some trials greats! rabie (southern fairy!)
  22. get an ACU trials licence (OK affiliation), but to do this you need to join a club first, so work out which local club you want to join, as they have to countersign the form (the form is on the ACU website) your entry fee for each event covers your insurance, although you may want additional personal accident insurance (depends how much of a crasher you are) from companies like CICA rabie
  23. 22 miles from calais is dover rabie
  24. its not normal practise to put championship fulls in the handbook (we don't in MX) but for Trials and Enduro you generally do because so few people (the 60 or so on the list) can enter it the T&E committee are (as i understand) sending the rules out to the relevant parties - ie clubs, riders, etc (thats what John Collins told me when i asked him!) rabie
