Hmmm. Outlaw Dave sounds grumpy. A problem shared, is a problem halved they say.

I agree. We need all the 4 stroke manufacturers we can get.
Where did you hear about Honda back into F1?

I know of a nicely sorted, '08 Beta Rev 270. Road reg'd. He wants

Isopropanol, if you can get it.

Aah yes, if I knew then what I know now!
I had the Rev 4t and had the same problem, but persevered with the hot start. Sometimes with success, others kicking until fit to drop.
I now have the Evo 250 4t 2011 and the same problem ensued, until I stalled in a section one day and the observer, a Beta 4t owner of old, put me right.
There are two kinds of Beta four strokes, those that will start with the hot start, and you guessed it, those that don't.
Neutral, no clutch and a whiff of throttle. Eureka.
Phil Scott, we thank you.

Welcome to my world
I had the same problem, only to find the choke that I had NEVER used since acquiring the bike, was actually on.
It was jammed, only releasing after I had pulled it all the way out.
It runs alot better now, but the plug still gets sooty and black.
My evo 2011 only appears to have two settings on the choke, but the visible brass shaft still gives the impression that it may be on.
Hope you sort it quicker than I did cos' the bike is awesome.
Cheers

Paul Bailey of The Bradford & District Motor Club, is running a series this autumn/winter for beginners. Two courses, one dead easy for the real beginner, and a slightly harder route for those better riders who are out for a good ride out. I helped him mark out on Saturday for the last event which sadly was cancelled due to the horrendous weather, but it would have been ideal. Next event is coming up december 11th. I can vouch for the beginners level as that's the route I ride. Clean a few, drop a few dabs here and there, but FUN.

Hope this helps and is not too far to drive. Next event just outside Bingley.

Speaking as a chap with a big head, I struggled until I tried the Airoh (XL). But it really is a try it and see proposition as we are all different. I was advised that it needs to be a snug fit to the point of mild discomfort as it will ease off to the shape of your head, and the top of your head needs to be touching the top of the helmet. I sign off with what may look like an avatar, but is actually a portrait of me. (explains alot don't you think?)

So the bike has zero emmissions and zero noise. And with it, I suspect, zero appeal. What of the emmissions created in the production and shipping of the batteries, not to mention the disposal of those same batteries at the end of their rather short life?
Four stroke is, or should be the answer in the forseeable future. Though not the anti-social roar of the 4RT, my Beta Evo 4T is far more civilized.
Yes, I know there is a degree of inevitability about the whole internal combustion engines demise, but I for one, will pack it in and take up knitting before standing on one of those! Raaaah!!!!
-
Well now I know why I've never needed to use the choke. I've checked it in the passed and no movement. Tried last night, but this time pulled it. It only came out one notch, but back TWO!!!! DOH!!!!
Thanks guys. Embarrassed

Aahh! Now I'm doubting myself. Is the choke half on? It certainly shouldn't be because as I said, I've never had to use it yet, and have had the bike since December '10. The previous bike I had was the Rev 4T and I never had a problem. Plodder-man, you sound like a man after my own heart. I wouldn't look at any other bike now I've had a couple of four stroke Betas. The 315 Mont' I had before I just could not get on with. The whole two strike thing I found too unpredictable.

Hi,my 2011 Evo 4T is running way too rich. I never even have to use the choke to start it, whatever the weather. The air filter is fine, clean with a light squirt of Duck Oil. It gradually starts to run rough and will splutter to a halt mid section unless I give it a good clear out first, firing black swoot out the back. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Wayne,

The plot thickens?!

"All will be revealed"? Liking the sound of that, here goes: JM-12500048 with a bore of 83mm

I have a 350 Bultaco from the seventies that is a definite restoration project, but I don't know just what it is. It has twin plugs which I thought would be for a quick change over mid section if the other plug fouled. But now I'm wondering if it is a moto crosser Pursang. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter, cos' I'm going to sell it and have no idea what to ask for it.
