What about speed test? A speed test has been used successfully in events I have ridden and requires one observer and a stopwatch. It works like this, there is a short taped off area that would be more accustom to green laning/enduro's riders riding. The rider traverses the set course from the timed start gates to the end gates in the quickest possible time, and the quickest rider wins. The last speed test I done was riding around a 2-acre pond in 4th gear like a motor crosser, great fun.
I have a genuine question to ask about two riders in the southeast of england riding under ACU rules.
Q: Two riders A&B in my centre look set to finish the championship with same the total points tally. Both riders would have the same amount of wins and second place finishes, who wins the championship?

if you've altered the gearing and added the fast action throttle you should notice a difference. i owned the 4rt whilst i had my new gas gas 300 raga delivered and riding both bikes back-to-back the gas gas only had the 4rt on the instant zap from the bottom end. both bikes full power is on par with each other the 4rt I found more stable and the gas gas more hoppie and instant. if there was one thing i could change about the 4rt it would to have the engine upped to a minimum of 300cc. suprisingly the gas gas i've considered putting a lighter flywheel on, but this is my personal taste and my motto is, to much power is never enough.
enjoy your 4rt they are a cracking bike

I had the 03 and found the carb would slip out with a wiggle and went back the same way. I brought my bike new and found the footrests were very stiff to pivot - back brake used to get through pads noticeable more than any other bike i've owned. i'm just over 6 foot tall and found the bars a little low, but changed them.
The engine is so well sorted i would seriously be happy to commute this bike to my place of work. The looks are drop dead and some of the engineer is a work of art. I would definately buy another if i had enough money, excellent bike worth ever penny

a 4t would be better....could cab be nominated next season, would sell more bikes

The colley 'showtime' pics look good...its been raining heavy in kent , looks like Hawstone missed it.
Information on party in the park, fingers crossed, may supply a blow by blow account of the drinking and who slips under the table first. R2W's scrumpy cider is more like paint stripper the rumour has it, and there's a lot of shandy drinkers present.
I'm up there tomorrow.....

I changed the rear sprocket soon after i bought my 4rt. Reading your comments (using a higher gear) should i try reverting back to original, any opinions?
I agree with who ever said "lean back". I ride in Kent with mud being a major obstacle inmy competitions, so getting the bike to grip in slippery mud is very important. A couple of month's back I rode an event that had mud about 12inch's deep in a lot of sections and no s**t when i leant back the bike would lift the front wheel and grip amazingly. The first time i accidently lent back the throttle was two thirds open in third gear and the bike stood on its end. The techinque is all important, Munch (in a different post) has some different footrests fitted to his 4rt, that could, i suspect not require a rider to change stance and lean back.
Munch can you upload a pic of your foot peg hangers.

have you a picture of your pegs you could upload?

Portaloo's Andy?...you pre-empting the quality of the cooking Definately can't be the beer all TC members have 50 gallon bladders so their must be another reason.....ummm....
.....I know!.....if you have enough portaloo's in a line tied together you have a section! (NO, NO NOT ME.... I wouldn't want to be in the first loo when a drunkered TC rider slams into the side whilst you i'm giving birth to a number two)....
A dry sense of humour me.... mines a strong dry cider and Bikespace is paying, tar-velly-much.

No offence taken
BS, your so outrageous, terrible, horrid can i have a free pint of LAGER, or even some scruppy from R2W?
-
I wonder if its possible to get a 1300cc Hayabusa engine in that frame.... come to think/look of it chances are this thought may have seen the light, isn't that cyclinder a 1980's oil cooled GSXR?
-
Munch - did you buy those or did you make up brackets yourself?
How can i get hold of a set?
-
Hope you enjoy your 4rt as i do mine. My answers:
1) No (but some people i've heard of have changed their thou)
2) I added two more teeth and half a link to the chain
......hope i'm getting paid for these answers dave.....
3) restrictors ALL in
4) oil and filter changed every 6 rides
5) leave the motor alone. i've added a alloy fast action throttle and 6inch bars and some anodised bits but thats it.
6) i position my weight to the rear of the bike.
-
steady on there charlie I thought my reply was overally informative... oopps i did miss out the bit about the masonary hammer and crowbar.
-

The Sherco 4t i've been told has a lot better grip in the wet then the Mont 4rt,and its lighter than the Mont, and there are more universal parts. Hope this pleases you Sherco 4t owners I own a Mont.....
.....now everyone calm down, PLEASE!
Okay, if anyone wants to add a comment about my 'so far' conculsion for the optimum 4-stroke trials bike (polite comments only), please do.

Is this official where can i read about this kit?
Out of all the bike brands, and this is going to sound controversal, Gas Gas is the brand i think will make the best (not the most reliable) modern 4t. A high reving 300cc motor in a super light chassis with fuel injection..... to say Gas Gas are indeed luck not have the constraints of a donor engine and their out right qwest for lightness is right way forward when i read the british bike comments above. Does anyone know how much a cub weigh's? The Mont is 73.8kg.
my conclusions so far for the 'optiumum' 4t are: very light bike, high reving, engine, 270 - 350cc - the less weight the smaller engine needed.
-
check them luvvy red wheels don't they look sexy.....please feel free to say how wonderful my bike looks!!
-
stop being nasty r2w he's a north kent rider (respect)
-
Thanks for the all replies.
Would i be right in saying the Montesa and soon to be Scorpa have high revving dirvied engines? I agree, Doug would be able to rev the nuts off a 4rt and get it going places 99% of us never would - as too if he even rode a ty80 he would beat me on that aswell . Picking up on one of the comments, a clubman relies more on a torque power and a bit of mid-range (fair comment?) rather than out-and-out top end power, so do high revving 250cc 4ts engines suit clubman best?
