Gents, I don't know what your forks are like but if they are similar to Paoli forks on a beta, you'll do more damage than good going the way you are. Don't know what the Monts use Paoli or Showa or something else anyway methodology on paoli
Take the bottom bolt out and drain the fork legs then once drained take of the top nut, the slider then works like a circular hammer, pull the slider down and with not too much force it'll pop off giving you access to the fork bushes, and the seals. Take the big circlip out of the top of the slider and gently prise the duff seals out, put the new seals in place and put the clip back in. Check all the other bits then rub a little oil round the circumference of the stantion and the lip of the seal, then slide the slider gentley back over the stantion, slide it all the way up then do up the bottom bolt again. Remembering the gaps refill with oil put the spring back in the correct leg and do up the top nut.

I'm with my learned friend from Texas ( well copey anyway...don't know about learned ) on this.
Don't be fooled by superficial rust, if you want your hard work to bear fruit then replace the mains, seals, get the big end checked, the whole lot. Same goes for the gearbox and clutch, get them checked and replaced if needed. There's no point in you doing half a job with a restoration, got to go the whole way. Split the engine do it properly mate.

No I don't think so, it appears that only the P65 and the Six Days themselves generate the same level vitriol when folk don't get in. Over the years there have been some very heated discussions on here if you want to look back all around not getting through the ballot or worse machine eligibility but as has been said, when you put the entry forms in you know exactly what you're going for, if you can't handle the fall out from that don't enter, simple.
cheers

Happy New Year mate..
Like the prof says until you see an entry list you don't know, you should know that. I've given up sending Anne an email to "scrounge" a list to laminate before the weekend. Year before last there were three, last year not sure off the top of my head, think Vicky and the young Polish girl. It's down to the ballot simple as that
-
Frenchie, I think there are many people under the misapprehension that the three or four hundred people who actually enter are fighting it out among themselves for a very small number of the 180 places. I would seriously doubt that is the case. I am aware that there are a number of places held over for past winners but beyond that I'm pretty certain it's down to the ballot.
I know Big John has to go through the ballot annually and many other individuals who "appear" to get in whatever the scenario. My old man entered twleve or thirteen times out of the 25, he got in about half of those. For what it's worth, I've known the trial secretary for more years than I want to remember and would trust her integrity beyond doubt.
The system is as fair as you can get based on the extreme number of entries there are every year and while some people don't like that well, that's just the way it is. The trial has it's rules which you agree to when you sign the form, simple as that.

Seems as good a place as any.....
A man walks into his bedroom with a sheep under his arm and says,
"Darling, this is the pig I have sex with when you have a headache."
His wife is lying in bed and replies,
"I think you'll find that that's a sheep, you idiot".
The man says,
"I think you'll find I wasn't talking to you."
