The Soldier and the Nun
A soldier ran up to a nun. Out of breath he asked, 'Please, may I hide under your skirt. I'll explain later.'
The nun agreed. A moment later two Military Police ran up and asked, Sister, have you seen a soldier?'
The nun replied, 'He went that way.'
After the MP's ran off, the soldier crawled out from under her skirt and said, 'I can't thank you enough Sister. You see, I don't want to go to Iraq .'
The nun said, 'I understand completely.'
The soldier added, 'I hope I'm not rude, but you have a great pair of legs!'
The nun replied, 'If you had looked a little higher, you would have seen a great pair of balls....I don't want to go to Iraq either'

Found these quite funny
I think this a quote from Winston Churchill, I may be wrong
"If you're not a liberal when you're young, you have no heart; if you're not a conservative when you're old, you have no mind."
Here's some more political quotes which are quite funny....
The word 'politics' is derived from the word 'poly', meaning 'many', and the word 'ticks', meaning 'blood sucking parasites'. ... John Kenneth Galbraith (1908 - 2006)
Most people assume the fights are going to be the left versus the right, but it always is the reasonable versus the jerks. .... Jimmy Wales, Keynote Speech, SXSW 2006
Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedy. .... Earnest Benn
Politics, n. Strife of interests masquerading as a contest of principles. .... Ambrose Bierce (1842 - 1914), The Devil's Dictionary
Politics is perhaps the only profession for which no preparation is thought necessary. ... Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 - 1894)
Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.... Ronald Reagan (1911 - 2004)

Alpinestars are pretty adjustable and go to a good width. Get a pair of sealskins as well cos they leak like a sieve but they are the comfiest boots I've ever worn. DON'T BUY WHITE ONES...

All the talk about religion as well!!
-
In Jerusalem, a female journalist heard about an very old Jewish man
who had been going to the Wailing Wall to pray, twice a day, everyday,
for 60 years..
So she went to check it out. She went to the Wailing Wall and there he
was!
She watched him pray and after about 45 minutes, when he turned to
leave, she approached him for an interview.
"I'm Rebecca Smith from CNN. Sir, how long have you been coming to the
Wailing Wall and praying?"
"For about 60 years."
"60 years! That's amazing! What do you pray for?"
"I pray for peace between all the Christians, Jews and Muslims. I pray
for all the hatred to stop and I pray for all our children to grow up
in safety and friendship."
"How do you feel after doing this for 60 years?"
"Like I'm talking to an effing brick wall!"

Atom established that already...Doug not included, you have to be a real superstar to get away with white alpinestars
-
Beat me to it.....
I too wear Alpinestars however when I ordered them I did steer clear of the white...
I quote Mrs Slapshot "FFS don't get the white they'll make you look like a poof".....
Years ago my old man bought white Gaerne's (they even sound right) same treatment
Evidence is building up

White Alpinestars....nuff said......post pic when I get home unless you have one handy Andy

Stick in 70.....that 1.6 won't make difference, save yourself some hassle

Ghosts, God and now UFO's...pulling out all the non-believer stuff here.
Ghosts - Someone disprove it, there's no rational explanation of why things "happen" so until someone can disprove it.....
UFO's - we've done this one before (bits of it below). Statistically we can't be the only lifeforms ever to have successfully colonised a planet therefore I firmly believe there are other beings out there. If you don't believe look at the stats......
Link to whole thread...Clicky
God - thought we banned religon ..... As has been said it's about faith whether you believe or not. As a kid of my generation, you had the religion thing beat into you predominantly by Grandparents. If you have the ability to think and use your imagination, you question everything. What little faith I had left by the time I reached my twenties was taken away for other reasons, I'm not going to go into. These days I find Priests/Ministers/Rabbi's/Imams (just to cover all the bases) etc at best sanctimonious at worst....well think how many wars have started with religion as their source.
God, ghosts and reincarnation: well there's maybe something in them, I'll wait for the proof
UFO's are different: - If you can't believe the science or the stats then start a creationist thread, the world was put here in the year 4004BC with all the geology in place for people to just trip over.....

my problem with the Beta is that no matter the issues, it's still the best bike I've ever ridden, that includes more modern machines. Hop Nathan gets a good un
-
Okay Shnaft, fair point.
Stators: Depends on the years, I believe the dodgy ones came from about 04 onwards. I replaced mine when I got it whether it needed it or not. Secondly, if you look after them properly, you minimise the risk of failure. Keep the timing side as clean and dry as possible, water and dirt are you biggest enemies. If the casing is excessivley wet inside the whole lot comes off for a dry and a clean, this also lets you look for "other" leaks. My old man's 04 needed Stator and CDI replaced not long after he got it but have been fine ever since.
Corrosion: Again, I believe year specific. Coolant wise I always try to use distillied/demineralised water with an organic based anti-freeze/coolant, minimise the chemical reactions. If the bike is going to be lying a while, I'll drain it.
Carbs: Yes the mikuni carb is crap but if you take the time to do the mods, keep it clean, strip it down every three or four outings you don't get leaks. A big part of the "Carb Issue" is your air filter make sure you have a clean well oiled filter every time you go out.
It's not rocket science and every marque of bike has it's own idiosyncrasies but good maintenance and bags of TLC minimise the the potential problems.
Either way, for the guy who started the thread, take your time, ensure that what you spend your hard earned on is right for the money and that you are comfortable with it. As quick a check as any I've found to give insight into your prosepective purchase is to whip the float drain off the bottom of the carb. If it's clean inside chances are the guy knows what he's doing and you might be onto a good thing.

All the Canucks drink is fermented Moosepiss anyway...... ....how you doin Mr Fracy??

But if Xengine and ancilliaries won't fit X09 frame then you could be in Yserious bother. While X/2 might seem like a saving but if it turns into 2X + Z once you've messed about to get it sorted you'll be kicking yourself. Save up for a new one mate, I'll will certify that Bigfoot's is lovely and I generally don't like gassers.
Yopu're right it's not a good time to sell but there will be dealers throwing new ones away at you
-
Both bikes are good bikes but every single one has it's own foibles. If you get a good bike that's been well looked after you don't get this multitude of problems, my 02 Beta has none of the problems because it's taken care of. Be patient, look around until you can find something nice and clean.

Christ you must be bored Gav.... weather is crap right now onshore and offshore

Nice one CK......still think putting fugly in it that night would have been damn funny

Who is that slim, fuzzy haired individual second from the left???????
-
Good eyesight....and the word Can-Am is much shorter than Armstrong....
Didn't the Army team get some sponsorship from Armstrong one year??
They were good bikes, the Hiro engined jobs were tons better than the Rotax's. Biggest problem I had with the Rotax was a silly one. The oil drain plug and the Kickstart return spring bolt were right next to each other, it was a b****** to fix if you got the wrong one........
-
I know what I'm looking at.....
Dad bought Curt Comer's bike direct from the CCM Factory. It had only done three or four days of the Scottish in 84/85?? maybe as late as 86 (#222, need to check the programs, still got the number plates) when he retired with a couple of broken gears; 1 new gearbox and a wash later...... It stayed labelled as a Can-am, Clews even provided the last couple of sets of Can-am stickers with the bike. 320cc Hiro engine, it was lovely to ride .... SOOOOOOO much better than the 250 Rotax version I bought not long after.
As far as I can remember there was only ever officially ONE labelled Can-am it was going stateside to try and sell them but not long after they lost supply of Hiro engines and moved to the rotax engines and if I remember correctly not that many ever found there way across.... would love to get hold of it again.
My dad was born and grew up in Fort William Tim, after Shinty what else was there to do...
-
...And this one used to reside in my old man's garage.....
