From a friend in Canada:
Spread the Stupidity
Only in Canada .....do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.
Only in Canada .....do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.
Only in Canada ...do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.
Only in Canada .....do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.
Only in Canada .....do we buy hot dogs in packages of twelve and buns in packages of eight.
Only in Canada . .....do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.
EVER WONDER ...
Why the sun lightens our hair,
but darkens our skin ?
Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed?
Why you never see the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'?
Why 'abbreviated' is such a long word?
Why is it that doctors call what they do 'practice'?
Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons?
Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?
Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?
Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?
Why Noah didn't swat those two mosquitoes?
Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?
You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?!
Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?
Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?
If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?
Now that you've smiled at least once, it's your turn to spread the stupidity and send this to someone you want to bring a smile to (may be even a chuckle)...in other words, send it to everyone. We all need to smile every once in a while

Funnily enough Mrs Slapshot just said the same thing......ouch

Just as an aside to all this Russel Brand and Jonathon Ross nonsense and Fawlty Towers, we are working in a O&G and renewables partnership with a company about to start development of 4 new field locations in the Cromarty Firth, the field/well names: Basil, Sybil, Manuel and Polly. I KID YOU NOT...nearly wet myelf when I read the spec the other day

Who cares where it came from and what the language suggests, it's bloody funny and don't you just wish she'd been that star turn on Judge Judy

Two Mexicans are lost in the desert. They see a tree in the distance. As they get nearer they see its draped with rasher upon rasher of juicy bacon.
"Hey Pepe", says the first man "Ees a bacon tree, we're saved!"
He runs to the tree but is gunned down in a hail of bullets.
"What happened?" shouts Pepe.
With his last breath, his friend shouts
"Run amigo, ees not a bacon tree.
Ees a ham bush."

terrible....wasn't funny last time Knorr the time before that...
-
probably a daft question .... how are you washing them?? you do need to follow the instructions, I don't even let Mrs Slapshot near my sealskins.
I've used Sealskinz for a couple of years and am still on the original pair, even now I can turn them inside out fill them with water and they don't leak.

Typical of you...I never even noticed the attractive lady in the background in any of the 70 or 80 pics I have from the same spot.......

1/250th sec at f5.6, set on ISO320, 22mm focal length
You always need a sense of the perspective to give the motion effects. Andy has a superb panned shot on here somewhere of Michael Brown at the British Champs round in Kinlochleven real sense of the dynamics of the sport. Pune in a vertical position just about to hit the splat.
clicky
Again the shot below of Wayne Braybrook at the Scottish this year, closeness of the shot, the fact the there is motion on the front wheel and the look of intensity on his face makes the shot for me....(1/250th sec @ f7.1...17mm..Distance about 18 inches away)

The future of nursery rhymes
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
The structure of the wall was incorrect
So he won a grand with Claims Direct.
It's Raining, It's Pouring
Oh sh!t, it's Global Warming.
Jack and Jill went into town
To fetch some chips and sweeties.
He can't keep his heart rate down
And she's got diabetes.
...
Mary had a little lamb
Her father shot it dead.
Now it goes to school with her
Between two chunks of bread.
Simple Simon met a pie man going to the fair.
Said Simple Simon to the pie man
'What have you got there?'
Said the pie man unto Simon
'Pies you dumb a***!'
Mary had a little lamb
It ran into a pylon.
10,000 volts went up its @rse
And turned its wool to nylon.
Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie
Kissed the girls and made them cry.
When the boys came out to play
He kissed them too cause he was gay.
Jack and Jill
Went up the hill
To have a little fun.
Jill, the dill,
Forgot her pill,
And now they have a son.
Jack and Jill
Went up the hill
And planned to do some kissing.
Jack made a pass
And grabbed her ass
Now two of his teeth are missing.
Mary had a little lamb
Its fleece was white and wispy.
Then it caught Foot and Mouth Disease
And now it's black and crispy.

1. A Shell-Shocked looking Fuji at Whaw - 1/250th sec @f5.6
2. Mark Sunter on the Bultaco twin shock at Whaw - wider perspective
-
Few different ideas from the Scott over a couple of posts
1. Close up - Wayne Braybrook just as he started - tight close up (safe distance.....) but taken at f8.0 1/80th Sec blurs everything else - Love the intensity in his eyes at the start
2. BrayBrook at Surrender - 1/250th Sec@f6.3 open image shows a bit of the section

Watcha mate...I'll send you a set of the pics from the Scott Trial last weekend.
A lot of it's trial and error from a strong start point. Different cameras, different setting, different results.
Jordi have a look at these, all of a similar basis

I'm right up North East, hopefully some of the mob from round your way will help you out
Cheers

hi Louise, welcome to the TC Madness.
North East of where?? Scotland?? England?? Plenty of clubs around both but practice land can often be difficult
-
Last Saturday was listed as 83.6 miles, (Perce can maybe correct us) once you put a few twists and turns in on some of the moors 80 miles is straightforward. Mind you the looks on some of the faces as they crossed the finish on Saturday.. maybe it was more
Another thing that struck me about it and highlights the speed and intensity needed to complete the trial is the attrition rate. Only 60 finishers from a just under 200 start list, that's a pretty horrific 70%. Most of these riders are strong, fit, good club/Centre riders to World Champions (sorry Doug). Your respect for an event like this and the people with the courage to try just increases once you see it. I always reckoned the Scottish was the toughest event on the calander, I'm reconsidering that.

Depends what modes she's shooting on, I use an EOS 30D and will shoot either Av or Tv settings. On Tv set a shutter speed of 1/250th of a sec, fast enough to freeze the action in trials and the camera will select the best aperture to balance the shot. On Av set a low f number depending on your lens and the camera will sort out the shutter speed. You can also crank up the ISO numbers, start at ISO 400 and increase it a bit is necessary.
Lastly get a decent flash gun that'll help. not sure what the Flash Sync speed is of the 400 mines and the ones above is at 250th of a sec so perfect for trials.
This one taken at Witches Burn, not too bad a place to shoot but in a shady bit of woodland, 250th of a sec @ f5.6 flash on but bounced up a bit.

Big studies and papers around just now suggesting that the theory that Lactic Acid and exercising Anaerobic conditions is bad for you is a lot of ballocks. Got some stuff about it recently that I haven't read yet but we touched on it at a coaches conference in Norway a couple of years back.
Long sessions are great for stamina/endurance training, that's about it from my experience. Diet very indivuidual but at the highest levels of elite sport they reckon a 60/40 protein / Carbo split
I've got a couple of hundred pics from Surrender and Whaw, haven't had time to go through them yet.

Disagree, most folk on these forums know you don't have the greatest respects for the man therefore even if he nailed an 8th and 9th title you'd still find some one better.
While I agree that Doug's 99 looks unassailable I didn't think anyone would eclipse Ago's record as Rossi has this season. Maybe 99 and 7 are beatable, I don't think we've yet seen the person who is going to do that, It's not Bou or Raga, they'll be fighting each other for the next 5 years.
This I will agree with, lets compare achievements in 10 years time. I'm certain the arguments will be the same, Doug will still come out on top
-
....and we are well aware of your opinions and general comments about him over the years as well, that's not an unexpected comment from you.
His career is tailing off as always happens to every top level sportsman HOWEVER as has been said, unfair comparison because of the relative stages of their careers. Either way he is still in there, I wouldn't say Bou and Raga are that far ahead right now. In my opinion Doug is the best rider there has ever been (his old man is still my favourite but....).
Give him the new bike and the back up he needs and he'll still be in there fighting next season. No disrespect to Dibs, Browny or Alexz, Doug still represents the UK's BEST chance at a WTC crown in 2009 so instead of questioning it, get behind the man and support his endeavours.
