Nothing wrong with a healthy discussion. The people with religious beliefs tend to want to discuss it less than the non-religious once there is any question of proof. There are far more arguments against it than for it (not that that in itself proves anything)
Not sure how heartache or happiness has any bearing on whether a God exists though?
Being brought up told that god is everything GOOD in life, the joy and the happiness of life etc, think it could be called brainwashing.... When you have a minister pontificating aout how good God is and how he will heal your pain when you are about to bury your own child makes you think. Mrs Slapshot and I have gone through this twice and the religous element is always the same, God's greater purpose and all that. Carolyn can deal with that my limited faith can't.
Get this all the time, Carolyn and I argued about this to the extent we don't talk about faith and religon any more. I can believe something I can prove or understand scientifically. I can't put my fundamental faith in something like the bible, the koran, the talmud or any other religous writing beause the proof is not there. If people want to question this then so be it, I'll state my opinions but won't try to change theirs.
Yup, Schools have to teach a broad scale of religion these days but I think it's gone too far. Example Small daughter brought a project home on Sikhism, spent a huge amount of time on it but took it back to school and was slated by the Teacher for it because it wasn't detailed enough, next one was Judaism and she has the Islam one to come, is it necessary, is it relevant, personally I don't think so. Teach these things as a general topic not individually. Touch on our own faiths for a time as well. We've gone nuts on this correctness nonsense. I think it's a waste of time. We want society to be open, integrated and fair but, we continually make exceptions to groups who don't want to integrate who don't want to be open and whose own fundamental views lead them to blow things up to get their way.

Wasn't going to get into the whole religion thing but why the hell not.
So there's the start, what do you believe? Heaven and Hell or are they just words, why the hell not, cleaning that section was heaven.....the conundrum.
Personally, I'm a scientist, I believe what I can tangibly understand and prove, Darwinian Theory, Einstiens Theory of Relativity etc etc etc BUT I also want to believe in a greater power, call it God, call it the Force call it Bhudda, Mohammet whatever you want. I've had enough personal heartache in life to question whether the great God exists to bring happiness and joy to us all. Ultimately it's down to where your faith lies.
We each have a choice in life to believe what we want. We can open ourselves to brainwashing or we can open our own minds to decide for ourselves, we should never decry anyone for the power of their beliefs. This is strong in many areas the US, various places and maybe therein lies one of the problems we've discussed in the erosion of society. Is the breakdown due to there being less influence of the church, of discipline, of respect and all the other fundamental elements of the society we and our parents grew up in.
tolerance is great......my favourite line; I'm not racist just don't bring me bad people

Looks stunning, I'll tell the old man about these, he'll appreciate them

The country went downhill when they stopped National Service, there is no respect left in the country for anything, property, people you name it. When our leaders become lilly livered and politically correct the country rapidly follows.
One of the unfortunate things though, bringing back NationalService wouldn't work, the Senior Army/Navy/RAF folk don't want the Riff Raff and thugs in green or blue. Just give them a safari trip instead
Don't know the answer, wish I did.

ATF, 10hrs riding then change it, better than anything else I've tried

Not a "sod you attitude" Paioli, just fed up seeing criticism flying around aimed at people I know who do a huge amount of work to put together one of the best trials on the calander. The original posts on this thread were only a whinge about the bike eligibility rulings.
I wish Pre 65 trials in general could get some parity with bikes but everyone is always going to look for an angle, it's human nature. the Bulto's, Mont's and Ossas last year.....how Pre 65 were they, Ariels with carved up frames, electronic ignition, Metal Profile Forks disguising a set of Paioli internals etc etc etc you can go on forever. Yes, I respect the engineering ability on show, yes I love to look at some of the gorgeous machinery that turns up in Kinlochleven every year but how much of it is really pre 65. I don't know enough about the anti BSA stuff to comment properly, but know my dad fell foul of it in the past.
It's impossible to get right, in many eyes it will never be fair but them's the published eligibility rules and if they stick by them no matter your "name", then the trial and eligibility is fair.
We each have a choice to enter or stay away. For those that choose to stay away, everyone elses chances of a ride increase. Doesn't affect me directly, I don't ride Pre 65's (unfortunately)but know plenty who do and have fallen foul of the rules. The way round that is to read them then make sure your bike fits, then no-one can point a finger at you.

What HL said....and this much, if you don't like the way the organiser have decided to do things, easy, don't bother posting an entry form off. I'm sure many others will be grateful of marginally better odds in the ballot.
As for a victim of it's own success, that happened after the second or third time the trial ran.
-
maybe, but if HL and Mrs Slapshot get him first he'll only be capable of singing soprano
-
All time trials hero: Mr Tyre Left himself, Martin Lampkin, loved the style, the agressive way he rode.
Currentish (last 10 yrs): Doug obviously, but Jordi definately had something special, could watch him all day and not get bored.
Future: Tony Bou is great but I think the UK has the future sewn up in young Wiggy, from what I've seen he has an amazing raw talent as good as Doug had really hope he get's the chance to excel

I sense a woman with something very very sharp at the Scott, might be worth the trek and pain after all Get im HL

Another Muppet....???????

Have to agree with Perce.
Showcasing the best we have at every level on single weekends would probably do the sport more good than any other suggestion heard recently. Highlighting championship weekends across the breadth of the sport D class kiddiwinkies, the Ladies right up to the big boys might gain us the Holy Grail, TV Coverage.
Though this might be better served on the new ACU forum, I would strongly suggest it worth persuing
