Ive probably had the most topics on the TYS125/175 issue, Ive been on TC since 2003 - is it a trials bike, isnt it a trials bike - is it any good, is it not etc etc
I had one of the first ones in Dec 2003 (TYS125), had it for a couple of years, and got an SY200 racing a couple of years ago (and in the interim period had a Beta 200 /SY250/Beta 250, then decided to go back to the 'little Scorpa') , and wouldnt change it now.....
I've been offered silly money during a trial in the last few months, and wouldn't let go of it.
I still maintain - despite others who will argue against it (as they are entitled to...):-
Bullet proof engine - suspension excellent - far better than my (novice) ability - well built...etc etc
Pay your money, take your choice....
I just wish the choice of an SY200 was there now....I doubt it ever will be, which is a shame

Got to say Pennine Trialsport have been very helpful to me as well
Good luck in the hunto for a new bike

Hi there
My 10 year old son moved from a TY80 to a big wheel Whitehawk, but I also took the chance of a Clipic CJ80 (2005 - Orange/White model) which cost next to nothing compared to a Beta 80.
He has now been riding the Clipic for a few months and competing very well against Beta's and beating a lot of them
Build quality is very good - remember Spain is a hotbed of trials, so bikes have to be good !
Standard are Paoili forks, Olle shock, Hebo bars etc etc. Engine is Derbi 80, so spares are readily available.
Pennine Trialsport still keep spares for most items - and costs are reasonable.
I paid £700 for the bike - around £500 ish cheaper than a Beta
Hope this helps - any other questions please ask
cheers

Hopefully see you there Gordon !
More worrying for me is the last time I rode the TL was last years Nostalgia - after a year of Chasing Chrissy around the kids course !

Consett Club will be holding the next round of their popular Wednesday Night trial this week on the 18th at Knitsley Mill. Running alongside the main trial will be a kids route.
Plan for this week is set up a couple of sections just for the kids, to let the trial get underway. We will then move to the main route and either use the easy route, or a modified version of the easy route.
Kids seem to enjoy it as they feel part of the 'main trial', and also get to ride the 'big route' !!
Come along - 6pm start and the kids can have some fun
Apologies if anyone turned up last week when we had to cancel - please keep an eye on TC - we will post if the trial is canceled but looks good at the minute !
cheers

Have a look on the events. In the north east there are loads of trials. I'm in chester-le-street and every weekend there is a trial within an hour. At this time of year, you can do trials wednesday nights, saturday or Sunday !
Come along to any on the events calendar on trials central and have a look.
Cheers

I had one of the first TYS125s in the north east in 2004 - great bike. Brakes were fine so hopefully pads should see you ok. I've now got a TYS200F (one of the last bikes) and I've just had to rebuild the caliper with pistons and seals (probably because I let the pads wear too much before I changed them) so that may be a possibility to sort.
Great bikes tho - some people may criticise but I've rode loads of trials on them and found them a great bike. A week or so ago at a trial a bike dealer offered me

My two penneth....
I help run some of the kids trials in the North East, and my son who is 10 rides. Often we set up in a completely separate area and run conducted, but other times use an existing section and modify to suit the kids.
There is no better way to get them started.
But..... after the event the kids do have a bit of practice, follow each other around, have a laugh and generally have a lot of fun (is that not what being a 10 year old is all about ?? !)
I know motorsport and the relative danger - I competed in Motocross, ran a club and set up tracks for 15 years, have done trials for the the last 10 years....... and I do consider myself a responsible parent.
I do agree with Baldilocks - trials is not really a 'spectator' sport - in motocross we used to rely on the paying public to break even - but it's different in trials. Not that I would ever want to discourage anyone from watching though.
Maybe you were unlucky that there was someone riding irresponsibly - but I've got to say from my experience in the North East, any club official would stamp hard on anyone (child or otherwise) riding really dangerously out of section (to the outsider an expert trying a huge step 'out of section' to practice may look dangerous - but thats the nature of the sport and very much depends upon the ability of the rider)
We are encouraging kids to ride in trials - they will keep the sport alive. That means sections they can manage but challenging - learning the rules - being polite (golden rule, always say thank you to the oberver).....and most of all have fun, which more often than not is having fun for maybe an hour at the end of the trial (while we are collecting flags in, collating observer boards etc etc !)
cheers

We will be running a kids route alongside the main trial tomorrow at Knitsley.
The format will be the same as was done at the last trial, where we used the main trial sections, mofified slightly then rode four times and moved onto the next section. Kids really enjoyed it - a great way to spend a Wednesday Evening.
For the parents, at the end of the trial the car park is immediately next to an excellent country pub !
Bring the kids along - as usual nothing dangerous and have some fun !
cheers

Update ! Due to the weather there will NOT be a kids trial at Bedburn tomorrow (Sunday) - apologies for any that were planning to be going. We ran today and it's just too wet.
The Main trial will STILL TAKE PLACE ! come along and enjoy

Consett club have a trial this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday at Bedburn, Wolsingham (see events).
On both days there will be a kids route. The club ran a trial there a few weeks ago and it was excellent for kids right from Osets through to the more experienced kids.
Banksides, rivers etc

Consett Club start their popular Wednesday night series this weeek at Knitsley Mill Consett (See Events section).
This year we will be introducting a kids route. It is a short lap for the main trial so we will be using the main sections (probably not all of them) but puting in a separate easy route suitable for kids. More than likely we will run it conducted and move the kids along the sections.
The venue is excellent (woods & banksides) and the car parking is literally next door to a pub !
6pm start so come along and the kids will have some fun while riding alongside the 'big trial'
cheers

Castleside trials club will be running a kids trial alongside it's main trial this Sunday at Bedburn near Wolsingham.
All levels will be cated for from very beginners upover. The routes will also cater for all bikes from Osets up to 125's. There will be plenty of practice time so the kids get confident then we will run a trial. The venue is excellent for kids with plenty of space, rivers etc etc - good traditional trials land for the kids to learn on.
Cost is only £5, for that the kids get some practice, a trial, then as much practice after the trial as they want.
Bring them along and have some fun
cheers

With the cancellation of Seaton Deleval trial this Sunday and move the Butsfield, there will be a Kids trial running alongside the main trial starting at 11am.
We will use a different area than last week, and as usual to accommodate all ages and levels. There will be two routes (easy/hard) so will cater all abilities.
Bring the kids along and have a good time !

Consett Trial has been moved to Butsfield this Sunday and as usual we will be running a kids trial alongside the main trial. Everyone from beginners are welcome on the kids course - if need be we will run two routes.
We have been doing some more work to put some new sections in - we may even use a new area within Butsfield so kids will have something new.
Bring your kids along - everything from Osets to 125's are more than welcome - even if you have never trailled before you can join on the day and have some fun - all for £5 to enter. If you aren't a member of a club in the North East Centre then that is another £5 - but that is for 2012 membership
Hopefully see some new faces along with the usual on Sunday
cheers

There will be a kids trial this Friday at Butsfield.
This is suitable for all ages and bikes from Osets up to 125's. It's all about fun and learning trials with no pressure, so as long as they can start and stop safely they will manage.
There will be half a dozen sections they can practice then have a fun trial of 6 laps. After a break there will be some more sections set out for them to walk, then ride then run another fun trial. Results will be both trials combined
All in all a good fun day for the kids and a great way to start trialling.
We have done some work on the area at Butsfield we use for the kids, so there is plenty to go at - and they will have a great time
Enrty fee is only £5, so bring them along - 11am start.
cheers

This Sunday is the Consett Club Spring Trial, and WILL include a conducted TY80 Route.
The TY80 course will be at the start point of the Spring Trial which is at Oxen Law. It will follow the normal format of half a dozen sections set out to practice then ride, followed by a break for dinner then a few sections set out in the afternoon just to walk then ride.
Sections are set right from beginner ability - as long as the kids can stop and start they should be able to manage no problem. Sections are set for kids to enjoy, not to be dangerous whilst introducing them to trials.
Hope to see the usual kids along, as well as some new ones are more than welcome and the sections will suit Osets.
Cost is only £5 - so no excuses to bring the kids along and have some fun.
As it is the Spring Trial the start time is early - 10am, and remember the clocks change as well !!
Hope to see you there Sunday
cheers

As it say's in the events section, there will be a kids TY80 Route this Sunday at the Castleside trial at Rogerly.
Usual format will be half a dozen sections set out and the kids can practice as many times as they want, then run a 6 lap trial. There will then probably be a couple of simple sections marked which they walk then ride without practice.
Usual kids who attend - please turn up. For those that are unsure or the kids have never done a trial bring them along - there's no pressure, its to develop them and give them confidence, not to make them struggle. The course will suit all kids including osets.
Those who know Rogerly know that it's a great venue for the kids to do a trial.
See you Sunday
cheers

Thanks to all for the replies - much appreciated !
Solved by repacking the aftermarket filter with some dense foam with filter oil. Still needs a little tweaking with jetting etc - but just about sorted. Many thanks

youre a couple of miles away from me in Durham - My son rides a TY80 as well - has done for just over a year(and he has an immacuate Whitehawk waiting in the wings !) He competes in the TY conducted routes, theres a one at Oxen Law this weeek.
Does your son compete ? Conducted routes are graet to get the kids started - I help run them at Consett/Stanley trials with the conducted route

I've been restoring a TY50 which is almost complete. After sorting the electrics it starts no problem and ticks over really nice. Problem is on opening the throttle it bogs really badly, throttle off and it will tick over no problem. I've changed needle height with no luck. The oil pump has been removed and now on premix - and also I've had to add an aftermarked 'bolt on' filter as there was no filter on the bike.
Any advice appreciated !
cheers
