  1. Well............ 3 days gone and second post for help on the TY80 Rebuild ! On the left hand side crankcases (flywheel side) below the carb there is a 14mm threaded hole which goes into the crankcases. On the bike I have, there is a plastic threaded piece with a small hose attached screwed into the hole ? On looking at the Haynes Manual, I'm sure the hole is for the 'indent plunger' which runs on the selector mechanism ? Any ideas why mine is as it is ? Apologies for no photographs - hopefully the TY80 gurus out there can figure out what I mean and advise ! cheers John Ps - my estimate by the end of the rebuild will be 20+ posts........and there's no way I can move Christmas day to accommodate any major problems !
  2. Hi I've just aquired a TY80 which between now and the 25th December needs to be up and running, and looking immaculate ! First problem is that it won't start. It has an intermittent spark. It will spark a couple of times, miss a couple, spark half a dozen, then miss again etc etc. The spark itself is very strong. Another question on the choke. Should the choke lever stop both up and down ? The one I have will push down, but springs back up ? Any help much appreciated - I'm sure this is the first of many posts ! cheers John
  3. Hi Rather than the cylinder head, more likely the impeller seal, or more likely (and costly!) the cases corrode and water seeps through (common problem - happened on my 2008 250 that I had from new) - have a look through the Beta forums - theres loads of info about it. It's easy and cheap to change the impeller seal, just drop the water out, take the cover off and then the impeller. You will easily be able to tell if the cases are corroded - they look like a lump of cheese ! If youre lucky there is a temporary solution with liquid metal. Hope this helps ! cheers John

    Here, Gas-people !

Just to add my comments.... I has one of the first TYS125's in the country (Dec 2003) and rode it regularly (30+ trials a year) in the North East Centre for the next two and a half years. Fact was - my results improved dramatically from my previous bike (a brand new GG Pro which was my introduction to trialling after Moto-X). After then riding a Scorpa SY250 and Beta 250 I have recently sourced another Scorpa, one of the last SY200 (163cc). I snapped it up, and will keep it and keep it. Simplicity and ease of riding means I won't be changing now after selling the Beta. My opinion on Scorpa 'going bust'. People would buy (and did) the SY250, however the engine was only produced for Scorpa by Yamaha and expensive, therefore prices went up and effectively the bikes became too expensive in comparison. If the engine prices had been reasonable and therefore bike prices the same as mainsteam Gas Gas/Beta/Sherco then Im convinced Scorpa would be in business still. The little 125 was a victim of this, and could not survive. I'm sure Scorpa could have marketed better and possible priced much lower for the little 125 (the Yamaha 125 engine is produced and sold in tens of thousands, therefore engine costs should be low). As far as seeing any competing - you certainly will be seeing one in the North East Centre on a regular basis (mine!)- and certainly over the past few years I have seen them regularly in the North East anyway. There will be a Scorpa 125 in 2011 with the Yamaha engine - but only a 125 and not the uprated 163cc Summary from me (with experience) There is a market for the 125 as has been proven. I have and still do see them regularly competing The 125 improved my results (fact) and I guess would for a lot of people. The world in general would be a more boring place if everyone rode state of the art 2T hopped up blinged latest bikes - Scorpa was different and the trials world was a much better place for it ! My thoughts as always.....!!! cheers John

    Tl125 Gearbox Oil

Hi Simple question ! How much gearbox oil, and what is the recommended grade ? cheers John
  11. Hi Hopefully someone can help ! I have a Montesa 172 which the restoration is about complete, however I have a problem with gear selection (goes into first but nothing else), and what appears a very heavy clutch. What I am after is if anyone knows of a good engine/gearbox rebuild shop (or individual !) in the North of England where I could take the bike to (I need to take the complete bike so it can be checked running). Ive googled and there a few specialist twinshock shops, but a long way away from me ! cheers and thanks for looking John
  12. I had one of the first Scorpa TYS125's in the country - got it in late 2003 (2004 model) - what a great bike. Had it for 2 years and brought my riding on no end. Sold it for a Beta 200, then Scorpa 250 then Beta 250, but...................................., after a bit of looking came across my ideal bike and snapped it up straght away as they dont make them anymore - one of the last SY200F's (163cc) - loads more (controllable) power, grear suspension - and so simple ! for me, Scorpa every time. cheers John
  13. Just went to change the seal - and there is a lot of evidence of corrosion, especially at the bottom of the impeller. Quite a few holes in there.... ! Is there a repair (metal-mend?) or am I looking at a new side casing.......... cheers John
  14. Sherco Front mudguard - In white though but looks fine on my 08. You need to drill the support bracket but fits a treat at
  15. Cheers ian, will do much appreciated john
  16. Sounds like how I planned to do it ian !
  17. Thanks guys ian - forgot to mention that mine lost no (or appeared to lose no) coolant ! I didn't realise it was a " side casing off " job to replace the water pump seal ? Not a massive job anyway tho. And I got a front wheel puncture today ! .....not a good trial ! Roll on next week ! Cheers john
  18. Hi I was going to post a topic about oil going White, but decided to back onto this topic! I've a 2008 rev 3 250, had it from new and it's a great bike. A couple of weeks ago i noticed the oil was milky through the sight glass. Now I had done a very wet trial the previous week, checked the airbox and there was a little pool of water in the bottom. I cleaned the airbox, dropped the oil, flushed it with petrol and replaced it. I ran the bike for 5 mins or so, and when the oil settled it was clear, so I thought the problem was solved. After todays trial, same again. Oil was milky, so I dropped it, flushed and replaced it. Same again, I ran it for 5 mins or so and the oil settled clear. Could it be that it takes a while for the coolant to weep past the water pump seal ? Any advice ? Cheers john

  21. Hi Hopefully someone can help! The petrol tap on my TL125 is constantly leaking. It doesnt drip, but is permanently wet. I've disassembled, and the small rubber washer (has 4 holes in) is hard through age, and some of it has broken away (very slightly). Tap still works, but like I said effectively cannot be turned off. I know I can get a complete new tap,but I've tried ebay/Sandifords and a few other places but no joy for just the washer. Anyone any ideas ? cheers John
  22. Hi Bought one a few months ago off ebay - paid
  23. I voted 10am for similar reasons to Pete-scorpa3, young family and like to get back early..... And couldn't be like a lot of experts and take 3hrs for the first lap ! Lap 2 for me and most of the experts havent even got through the first section !!!!!
  24. Hi had the same on my 05 250. I hammered a slightly smaller socket on,and used an impact driver - it came off no problem. I then replaced with an aftermarket from birketts and had no further problems ! Cheers John
  25. Youre right - mines an 08 250 as well - great bike It's taken me 33yrs to get a TL125 since I wanted one as a 10 year old..........and I love just looking at it now !!!! The only additioon I think I'll make to the TL is a fabricated aluminium bash plate - more to protect the bike as I don't want to scratch it !! - Certainly my intention won't be to (deliberatley) throw it at rocks cheers John
