  1. Can't help on tials much, but..... The original Motocross track at Pity Me ran from about 1987, and is where the Arnison shopping centre is now. There were a couple of schoolboy nationals ran on there (in the days when Jamie Dobb was a schoolboy). The track then moved a little further down, at the side of the A167 in about 1990. Was a compact track, with a 'mini hawkstone' sandy hill (once went up on the first lap in second place, took the lead at the top, then crashed down the otherside, ended up in Dryburn hospital with a broken collarbone - damn !). The track closed in about 1995/6 ish...... happy days !!!! as for trials, sorry but cant help.....certainly nothing there these days cheers John.
  2. Yeah, mine had high MX bars, and a front number plate (square). made the grifter's of the day look like a real girls bike !!!! I'm sure I got mine from an advert in (a very early) TMX !!!! cheers John.
  3. Class!!! What a memory jogger......... Thats the one!! Like you day, wellies and snorkel parka and you were the business!! Glad someone has unearthed a photo....... now my wife will believe (but not understand) what I've been going on about!! happy days.... thanks mate! cheers John.
  4. t-shock 250 Class if you can get a photo ! Remember at the time that Grifter's had just come out, but that Wheel king showed em Heavy as owt - great for downhill, but nightmare to ride back up again.......... Wheel King and a Suzuki A100 field bike (with knobblies and an upswept exhaust!) - boy those were the days !!! cheers John.
  5. Not exactly bike trials, but...... Just come across a reference to the 'Wheel King" bike, from the mid 70's (I know - a long time back!). Anyway, I had a new one, must have been in about '76/77. It has a plastic 'fake petrol tank' (red), MX seat, number plates, suspension front and rear, Drum brakes etc etc. Looked all the world like a 'crosser, and boy for a 10 year old it was cool !! Anyone remember them, or even a photo ??? cheers John.

    Rev3 Buying Advice

Dont discount the 200 Beta mind... I've had an 04 200 now for a few months and love it. Finds grip really well, and not as fiery as a 250 for someone with (very!)limited ability..... i've had a brand new 03 250 GG Pro (was too snappy), a Scorpa 125 (loved it, but the Beta came up and I fancied a change) and for me the Beta is the best of the 3. cheers John
  7. Thanks Guys.... Glenn Sorry mate, but I couldn't resist the Beta ! - Little Gem it is. It was a hard decisdion, and I actually haven't got rid of the Scorpa yet, although it is up for sale (if you know anyone..........!) You have a good Christmas as well mate, and I'll probably see you at Sheffield. Nutty Thanks for the positive comments on the Beta - can't wait to get it into a trial........... And if you fancy a Scorpa with a seat - I've still got my Scorpa (seat has never even been sat on !) - its advertised on classifieds on here. cheers and best wishes for the festive season. John.
  8. Bit of an obvious question...... What's the recommended Petrol/oil ratio mix for a 2004 Beta 200 ? (Go easy guys, I've had a Scorpa 125 for the last two years, and haven't had to worry about such things !!!) cheers John.
  9. Cheers Vinnie, thanks for the info. I'm going to change to a 10 front (after 2 yrs!!) I agree with your comment on the 'worst performing 125'. I used to be the worst performing rider, irrespective of what I rode - my results improved dramatically moving to a TY125 2 yrs ago. Now, I wouldn't change at all. If people took the time to give the 125 a real try (and I appreciate it does take some time to get 'used' to it), then they would be suprised. All new trials bikes are 'good' (if not excellent), and surely performance is measured in an individual's results, not opinions. If performance is indeed measured in results, mine 'performs' better than the (excellent) bikes I've had previous (GG Pro, Beta etc.............) As ever, only my comments.....!!! cheers John.
  10. Scorpa F Quick Question - what front sprocket does Dale use? I'm still on bog standard 11 , but was considering a 12 to lower second gear and try everything in second instead of first. cheers John.

    Sy175

Hi Glenn Got to say mate, first for almost everyting (as you know tho, mine is the little 125!). The only time I use second is if the hill has no obsticles in the way. 99% of the time it's first, it may be slow, but it gets you there ! p.s - You should have been at Shafto Craggs today, was an excellent trial. cheers John.

Agree on carburation Only mod i've done is up the idle speed, purely to stop in stalling. changed the idle speed in November 03, never touched it sine..............

Main reason - (and only my opinion !) I don't think the extra cost is reflected in extra performance, or a bike which will improve a riders results over a 'bog standard' TY125, with a few minor tweaks. I dont doubt a class bike, and if the build quality and reliability is anything like mine, you won't go wrong - just not sure on the extra value for the extra cost. cheers John.

I know the question wasn't at me, but mine was one of (but not the) first. I got mine in October 03. Would buy another one tomorrow, but mine feels 'just run in' ! Love the bike, but steer clear of the '175' (143cc). cheers John.
  15. Welded was an option, I was looking at the replacement aspect, and converting back to standard (if required). Bolted on works well, I only use 2 X 8mm round head bolts. I wouldn't contemplate a trial (especially a rocky one) without them now cheers John
  16. Added two fabricated 'wings' bolted on. Manufactured from 6mm Aluminium. Had them on for well over a year now, and the have taken some abuse - hate to think what the engine would have taken !!!! Mate has a 175 and has just done the same mod. Will try to get some pics. cheers John.

Hi James Mine normally takes about 6 kicks too. Don't worry. I put full choke on, no throttle and kick. The advantage is you dont need to kick hard ! I normally leave for 10 minutes to warm up (with the usual comments of 'is that the generator on - is there a sewing machine here - blah blah !!) Once warmed up, always starts first kick. cheers John.

Hi James, I think thats cheap for one. Don't reckon you'll lose much in a year (if anything). Another advantage of the little Scorpa is the bulletproof engine, so I reckon secondhand prices of 2-3 year old Scorpa 125's will stabalise and not depreciate too much. Going to keep mine at least another year, seen nothing else that appeals !! cheers John.

Didn't do anything with the carb James, and I've had no problems. Mind you, the only hopping I do is hop off in a sections and take a 5 !! cheers John.

James Wrap the packing around tight, and but some insulating tape around (3 or 4 places, spaced down the packing.) The tape just burns away leaving the packing. Its a bit fiddly, just persevere. Vinnie I snapped my TY125 rear mudguard early on. Got is plasic welded, and used cable ties in place of the 2 bolts. Fall off and the cable ties snap, not the mudguard. Carry a few cable ties when you ride. I know the new SY175 guard is more flexible (like the SY250) hope this explains cheers John.

Had my Scorpa for 18 months now, lots of trials, so an experienced viewpoint. Only mods done:- 1 - Exhaust - definite bottom end improvement (and it sounds sweet) 2 - Bashplate extensions (mine are bolted on, others I have seen are welded) - absolutely invaluable...... 3 - 'Easy Clutch' from the states - got the info off here - 90% as good as a hydraulic (I've tried mine as standard, mine modded and a one with a hydraulic conversion) - cost under

    Gubian Replica.

I've owned a TY125S for 18 months, one of the first in the county. It is BS that a smaller bike will not improve your riding - my results improved, fact - I have the statistics to prove it. Great bike, simple to maintain, great to ride. Gives you loads of time in sections, and It will climb everyting on an easy/middle route. One B Class schoolboy rides a TY125S on Hard route in the North East Centre with good results. Go for one - you will improve... cheers John.
