    250f

Hi I am thinking of buying a 250F, any pro's and con's that may help my decision. Will the fact that the company are in the French equivalent of chapter 11, have an effect on spares or second hand prices?
  2. Hi I welded a couple of brackets on and used ty175 type tensioner, though the tension spring is not that good it needed some tweaking!
  3. Hi Guys The exhaust valve rocker spindle on my cub is loose in the head, it will not tighten only rotates. When I run the engine it moves up a down noticeably at the oil feed banjo end. I guess the head hole is worn, does anyone know of a fix or a good engineering company who can sort it. I guess welding and line reaming to size would fix it. Any ideas greatly received.
  4. Hi Guys, Is the Talmag trial still on this sunday at Hungry Hill, Aldershot. Last year it was cancelled, if so its a good day out, especially the sidcars bouncing valves up the climbs!! triton
  5. Hi, There are many mods available, I lengthened my s/a to give more clearance at the front, reduced the right hand side arm profile to give more tyre to arm clearance, offset the rim to the right to clear the chain ( this required cutting and rewelding the hub by 1/2 an inch) also fitted spacer between sprocket and hub, then offsetting engine to the left using spacers and "leaning" on fwd mount bracket. Ray Small did the s/arm mods "Wheelwise" the hub and wheel mods. I dont have any pics sorry. After all that expense I still fall off most of the time! triton
  6. Hi I have e-mailed you I can send you a copy if you wish. However set piston at 3mm btdc, turn rotor until marks align with stator mark and tighten rotor nut, plug gap to be 0.027thou. triton

    Cub Clutch

Hi All I have just fitted 3 new surflex clutch plates to my cub, with all adjustments correct the final plate fitted is only flush with the housing edge with lever out. With lever pulled in the plate's drive tangs disengage from the housing and the plate slips down. Any help appreciated. triton
  8. I had the swinging arm lengthened by an inch to aid mud/leaf clearance and tensioner brackets fitted, also modified the bracket for back brake arm. Next job is some forks with abit more travel than present cub heavyweight ones. more expense!! triton
  9. Hi UncleBuck Castol R will smell fantastic, however its a vegetable based oil and was designed for high performance engines which usually have to be flushed out after each event otherwise it will block up oil passages. I use Castrol XXL40 in my cub solely cos the previous owner did, as they are only a basic engine I would imagine any oil will do provided you change it regularily. I see you are in Surrey do you get to the saturday practice sessions at Betchworth? triton
  10. Hi Fast Ferry If your cub is running fine stick with it cos its expensive to modify. Mine was erratic at idle rpm and clean on pick up to high revs, now its very good. triton
  11. Hi I will attempt to post a pic of my cub tensioner, it has a TY175 type fitted.OK i know it needs a good clean. triton
  12. Off topic I know, also it must have been asked previously, but how do you post pictures??? triton
  13. Hi Fast Ferry, The chaincase would have to be modified to mount the stator in, then when assembled it would then be impossible to set the initial timing by aligning the marks on rotor and stator, or fine tune it by rotating the stator in its slots. Also the air gap is critical, so checking it impossible. triton
  14. Hi Uncle Glad you had success with rotor nut. I see you are in Surrey which club do you ride in? Will you be trying your bike out at the Sat practice days at Betchworth? if so I may see you there. Triton
  15. Hi Uncle The PVL rotor does NOT require a woodruf key, just polish off all the burrs from under the head of the rotor nut set the stator halfway in its slots, align the rotor with stator mark, with piston at correct measurement BTDC(cub is 3mm). Then torque up the nut with back brake on or soft drift jammed in primary chain(ouch)I needed a couple attempts before the timing was correct. My cub had its first outing today the difference was amazing clean tickover (even with Amal carb) and better response, all I need now is the skill to do it justice. Oh it did not start at first even with fat blue spark, I had to swop over leads from stator blue and black as instructed by Martin at Serco. Good luck
  16. Hi To fit PVL the lefthand crankcase has to modified,it can be removed with engine in frame if you have later type engine, ie three supports have to be fitted to mount the pvl stator assembly, the existing stator and rotor are dumped, a new pvl rotor fitted on the drive shaft.I would post a pic but my I.T.skills are limited I can e-mail if you wish. A few companies can do the job,Martyn Adams of Serco did mine about 280 quid, have a look at www.serco.uk.com for pictures. Triton
  17. Hi I have just modified my Cub to run with PVL ignition, I set it up to Serco's initial figure of 3mm BTDC, it starts and ticks over much better now, though it seems lumpy and backfires abit at higher revs, I haven't tried it out in anger yet, just in the garage for short bursts to keep the neighbours sweet. Has anyone any info on timing set up, my cub is standard 199cc with standard cam and compression ratio. I will ride next sunday in a club trial and see how it goes. Any info appreciated. Triton
  18. I had my cub rim offset to obtain clearance between tyre and chain guard, it was always clogging with mud/leaves etc. To do this the hub was widened by half inch by welding in a spacer, otherwise the the righthand spokes would be almost vertical, they must angled for strength. This left the wheels out of line, which I can live with as I dont need an mot. I also fitted a spacer between hub and sprocket for additional clearance.

    Talmag

Yes great trial, rather cold though I soon warmed up walking (climbing) the sections. I rode white route, the cub's valves were bouncing on some of those climbs! The R26 250 shaft drive BMW with open pipe sounded sweet. triton
  20. Hi Give Boyer Bransden a call 01622 730939, they are normally very helpful. If you get no joy, I am riding the Talmag on Sun I will make some enquires for you. Triton
  21. Steve, I run a 22mm Amal, this should improve your slow running, you can always e-bay your 24mm one. Some cubs have the Mikuni carb from the honda tl trials bike fitted about 20mm I think, they go quick on e-bay. Ray Small modifies the crankcase half, by cutting a larger hole to gain access to the G/box sprocket nut with the clutch off, then a small circular plate is bolted back over. However to initially accomplish this you have to remove the case half. This can be done on later splitdown the middle type crankcases without taking the engine out the frame, head, barrel, clutch off then remove left case. I run a 16t gearbox and 58t rear wheel. The later type heavyweight forks did have external springs you have the same as I have earlier type. www.tigercubspares.co.uk have a good supply of new and used bits, I got my new fork seal holders from them, not cheap!! Rgds Triton
  22. Steve, stick with it,if you have an Amal concentric carb give it an overhaul check the slide is not worn if so fit brass one. Fit some Venhill cables teflon lined, too clutch and carb. Set carb tick over and mixture correct plus ignition timing, it should pull away from tickover smoothly without touching the clutch the engine has good torque for its size. Fit Miller type fork stays they prevent the forks twisting as the stays per your pic may do. See cub pic in Miller catalogue. www.trialsbits.co.uk in Swindon are a good company for pre 65 spares. Ray Small has a business only manufacturing Cub mods, very helpful with loads of info (no web site) tel 023 8069 3183. rgds Triton

    Talmag

To answer my own question, received my entry this morning. There are 190 Brit fourstrokes entered inc sidecars. Only problem is as I'm in the under 300cc class I am on white routes help! Its on Jan 29th in Aldershot. Triton
  24. I use standard heavyweight forks on my cub,(they have won the Scottish in the past with them fitted, not mine I hasten to add) The joy of riding a cub is to clean a section when the previous gasbetasherco has failed. Keep them original as possible and enjoy Triton
