  1. I was wondering if there was a "For Sale" section here?? I didn't see one, but I've been known to be wrong in the past!!
  2. AHHHH. . . I get it!! Thank you. Good advice, I wouldn't have done that.
  3. Sorry if this sounds stupid, but take the slack out of what?
  4. Does anyone know of a reputable on-line store to order parts?? Im going to need parts for my old Yamaha and its really expensive to get them direct. So I was wondering if anyone ordered thier stuff on-line. Thanks!!
  5. So when I take off the cover and remove the gear from the crankshaft, what am I looking for?? How will I decide if its a pronlem with the bearings or with something else??? Or is just kind of a wait and see thing? I'll just do it and take pics. . .
  6. Sorry, i meant to type "I cant turn it, not a bit" There is a very small amount of play, like less than a 1000th or so
  7. So I finally got the flywheel cover off!! I had to drill the screw heads off! (why would they use a screw and not a bolt?? ) And there is NO rust ANYWHERE to be seen. BUT!! But it is all white?? Is it suppose to be white? I can turn it though, not a bit. What I can say, is there is VERY little free play on the crank and the flywheel. So thats a good sign??
  8. And that, of course, means splitting the crankcase?? Which would mean removing the motor?? So I should just do that to start with. . . no?
  9. Do you think if I just removed the front wheel, I could tip it forward, kinda like an endo?? Would that work? Just let the oil flow out of the front of the motor?
  10. So I just have a quick question. Im filling the crank case with oil. Is there a drain for the crankcase?? Or will I need to remove the engine and flip it over?? I sure hope there is a drain hole. . .
  11. So here's the barrell from my siezed 76' Yamaha. There are NO gouges what-so-ever. Totaly smooth. Those dark spots are just spots that I missed while cleaning it. Thier smooth, just dark. Does it look usable to you?? Should I still have it honed?
  12. That seems to be what im hearing from most. But, it was suggested to me that if its only a "minor" sieze, meaning the the rust has just settled into the bearings, it may turn out alright. A local guy mentioned to me that since the rust was SO minor on the barrel and piston, it was more likely than not that the same amount/type of rust is probably holding the bearings tight also. So if I were to get it loosened, then soak it in a thicker oil, then drain it and SLOWLY keep working the bearings, it would probably be alright for use. He mentioned that even though it was sitting a while, the rust may have only recently seeped through the seals and caused the sieze. Does that sound logical to anyone here? Or was that just a load of crap??
  13. Im not exactly sure how to get at the flywheel yet?? Im in the procces of getting the manual from arun1664, but untill then, im pretty much stuck.
  14. So it came out like you all said, WD-40, a mallet and a little patience. I have to be honest, the barrel and piston look to be in GREAT shape. . . i think. Ive added a couple pics of the piston and i'll do the same when I clean out the barrel. How's it look to you guys?? So whats next? I wasnt able to get the crank shaft moving?? Could the bottom end be siezed also? How can I check? If I can get the crank to move up and down, im going to be REAL excited! So any advice on where to go next? How can I get the crank to move? Turn the wheel? Kick start wouldn't move it. . . Piston pics, any thoughts? Im going to shop for new rings, piston and all that Jazz pretty soon, but i'd really like to make sure the crank is going to turn!
  15. I didnt see a manual there for a TY 175?? There was a PARTS catalogue, but no manual?? Did I miss it?
  16. Definetly will do that! Im hoping it wont be too long from now!
  17. I was looking for a manual recently for my new bike. Its getting VERY hard to find the older ones. Is there a manual archive on this site some where? I looked, but I may have just missed it or something. If there isn't one, would anybody be interested in one? Im sure with all the people on here, there must be hundreds in PDF format on different members computers of different types of bikes!! Any thoughts on the subject??
  18. Shouldn't the crank be just fine it if siezed while sitting? What could have happened to it?
  19. So!! Ive started the work on my newest trials bike! Im really excited. I have only a small amount of background on this bike. The previous owner told me that he used it regularly up untill a couple years ago. He told me that when he tried to start it after it was sitting for more than a year, he found it had siezed. Its VERY damp up here in B.C. Canada so I assumed rust. I removed the cylinder head, and sure enough, it was rusted all over the walls. I looked through the exhaust port and the piston is also rusted. Now, I cant seem to free them from one another. Does anyone have any tips on breaking the seal?? Ive loaded it with WD-40 and still no luck. I'll leave the WD-40 untill tomorrow and see if that helps. If not, any ideas?? Here are a few pics of the rusted cylinder. Before AND after the WD-40
  20. Oh ya?? Were not going to be putting it on the road, strictly for off road use! So we wont really need the headlight. Think its worth something??
  21. Ya, the sissy bar is leaving and the original seat will be back soon! Any luck finding that manual??
  22. Thanks, if you find it id love to have it! Im in Vancouver Canada. I just picked this up today and took those pics a couple hours ago. Its pretty cold here right now! The bike is in my Kitchen now for repair since we dont have a shed!!
