  1. Thanks mate will do, and see what happens regards
  2. PS it was crashed and ended up on its right side so something could have been damaged. Ian
  3. anyone point me in the direction of where I can download a workshop manual for a scorpa 250 98/99 rotax 250cc ??? I've got a problem with the front brake -- it dont work, so far I have these clues, master cylinder Half Full ( So i'll top it up) no visible leaks anywhere on the whole system, pads still have plenty on them, unscrewing bleed valve on caliper reveals fluid. pulling brake lever which looks ok with the bleed valve open produces nothing. Removed brake lever and caliper assembly and no signs of damage- any advice anybody ?? Cheers Ian
  4. You must be a mind reader mate, only two hours ago I said to him that if you think learning to ride means wizzing across a field at 40 mph out of control, then think on. What you have to show me is a figure of 8 around cones, full lock under complete control, no feet down then stop, balance the bike without putting a foot down, and set off again. You control the bike, the bike doesnt control you- then when he is competent in basic handling, its on to roadcraft, even though he wont be going onto the public highway but a good grounding for when he does, then I'll hand him over to some professional trail bike training, cos it aint my speciality. Just chucked him the Police riders' Manual and told him I'll be testing him on it Regards Ian There are old motorcyclists and there are bold motorcyclists, but very few old and bold motorcyclists
  5. Oh and then he crashed it, no injuries as I had given him my armoured leathers etc, but now I have to replace the front brake cable and the rear mudguard now looks like an Airfix kit. Give him is due, got back on.
  6. Thanks for all your help, just found Birkett Motosport in Cumbria who deal in Scorpas as well. Nice site
  7. Cheers for that, my 15 yr old son just had his first go, on some farmland the owner let us use, and promptly crashed it, broken rear mudgard and the front brake pipe ripped from its handlebar lever. Just a few bruises but as he was wearing my armoured leathers and helmet was OK. I couldn't stop laughing as kids nowerdays think everything is easy.... no doubt I'll be on to Appelyards at Keithley for some spares ian
  8. Just got a 10 year old one for my stepson, I have downloaded what manuals I can, but they all seem to be of the 4 stroke variety- any clues and whats the recommended fuel/2stroke oil mix ? Cheers
  9. Just got the Scorpa 250, even though its 10 years old with a few scuffs and dints, what a beast, I mean I am used to riding powerful road bikes but this is totally different, light, responsive and on your back in a second with too much throttle. My stepson tried a 2ft run to make sure he understood clutch throttle and brakes and did very well. However I think he now knows that it will take a lot of commitment and skill to do it properly. Which is great cos at that age kids think that they know it all and everything is easy, so it is a lesson in life. Thanks Chaps.
  10. sorry mate we live in Bolton near manchester, so its a long journey to get there. good luck though
  11. yep I know, dropped a Honda 750F2 coming out of a roundabout years ago, there was diesel on the road, quite happy rolling down the road letting my AGV helmet and leather take the strain at 30 odd mph then there was the familiar sound of my mate on his bonnie, just behind me> Yep, ran me straight over, his brake pedal ended up at 45 degrees where it smashed my helmet and his number plate smashed where my helmet hit it after I'd gone under the bike. The ambulance crew scraped me off the road with nothing more than gravel rash, however, even today my back hurts. Tell you what, invest in the best helmet you can afford. Leathers were ruined but I still had my Head on in the right place. Cant understand why I still see road bikers dressed in t shirts and jeans.
  12. I am grateful for all of your suggestions, the members are very helpful. I used to fly fast jets as a hobby on a PPL. I was a member of the PPrune.org forum. full of idiots and self opinionated no-bodies. it is nice to talk with normal people on a forum,. Bikes are much more interesting and I might even give trialing a go myself, trouble is at 47 if you break a bit of yourself it takes ages to heal. Ian
  13. Thanks for that, have contacted AMCA to see if they can help, otherwise he can learn the basics on the 250 and then I'll sell it and get him a 125cc to compete, any sugestions on model and make?
