  1. If they're owt like my '97 ones they'll just fall out if you remove the wheel and give it a good shake ! Mine are that slack!
  2. Aye, it's a round rubber O-ring. I put some new clutch plates in recenly and the seal was a swine to replace. Once set free it seems to have life of its own and doesn't want to return to the darkness of the clutch housing. I think I sould've put a new one in because, A - It wouldn't have been so distorted. B - It now leaks a few drops once the engine is really hot and C - It would have been kind to the old one to grant it it's freedom.
  3. Hi Folks, A bloke asked me the other day if my '97 Techno still had it's fly wheel weights on it. Why wouldn't it have? Is there any point in removing them? If so, why were they put there in the first place? I would imagine that if I was to find 'em and try to remove 'em that they'd be under the right hand side engine cover behind the fly wheel? This would mean I need a fly wheel puller, right? Can anyone shed any light on why/where/what and how on this subject? Cheers, PhilSwiv .
  4. If all else fails - swear very loudly, throw down whatever spanner is in your hand and march to pub. Chew somebodys ear off about how you suffer for your art. Totter back home with a self satisfied "four pint glow" and go to bed. Repeat this process over several nights untill you get the correct pressure at the brake lever ( I still havn't cured my rear brake problem, much to the benefit of the local pub landlord).

  7. Make sure you take out the swinging arm and the shock absorber linkages. These parts here are on bearings and are moving up and down all the time you ride and the grease in them gets washed out by the rain and, particularly, the jet washer. In fact you can't go far wrong with checking every bearing on the chassis. That's the one's I just mentioned, the headstock that you've already mentioned and the wheels. That should keep you busy !
  8. I've bled and re-bled the rear brake of my '97 Techno. I've posted messages to this effect with the usual "have you stripped it/cleaned it?" well intentioned but obvious answers. I now have the whole system rigged up on my bench. I tried using a different calliper - still no change. I tried a different caliper and a differnt brake hose - still no change.     Beta Radiator

    I've gone for the cable tie option on my '97 Techno. The bottom two mounts had no where to bolt into so I have (very neatly) put one cable tie through each of the radiator mounts (bottom left and right) and secured them to their nearest frame rail. Once the excess cable tie is trimmed off and the rad cover is back on it looks very tidy. Cable ties and gaffa tape - the poor mans "Snap-On" tool kit .
  10. Hi Folks, the place where I ride is very muddy at the moment. I, as an off road novice, find the mud very disconcerting. Is there a technique for dealing with mud? Am I doing it right by just (trying) to relax my grip and just constantly correcting the steering as it slews left to right? I tend to let the speed drop right off but I've read about crossers and Paris-Dakar types going faster in these situations to dig in the rear and lift the front out but I have a mental block about trying this particular technique. What sort of tyre pressures should I be running? Bear in mind that I'm just learning/trying and not competing. That lot should keep you busy . Cheers, Swiv.

    Cut Out Switch.

    Thanks for that guys. Motopat, the only trouble with your suggestion is that there are no old wires to copy from. This bike has just been stalled all it's life to stop it! Bob, I'll have a look for the afore-mentioned wires tomorrow. cheers fellas
  12. Hi folks, I've had no response from the Beta forum so I'll try here instead. My '97 Techno has no cut out switch. I want to fit one or maybe a lanyard switch. I know they only have two wires (having fitted a new one to my lads crosser) but I don't know which wires to chop into on the Beta. Any ideas?

    Cut Out Switch.

    Hi folks, I'm sick of having to stall my '97 Techno to shut it up. I'm wanting to fit a lanyard switch so I don't have to do this and to cut the ignition when I have one of my "close encouters with the earth". I don't want to go butchering the wiring willy-nilly so, which wires/wire do I have to cut into? Cheers.
  14. I struggle with this "beginers" tag. I am a beginer but I feel that other peoples ideas of beginer are probably of a person more skilled at the trials lark than me, or are they? I suppose I should just go watch a club trial and see what the organisers idea of "beginer" is and see if I fit the bill. Nothing is worse for a persons morale than finding themselves out of their depth....no matter if that's in trials or at work, it's a negative thing and very bad for confidence. So, back to the topic - where in Yorkshire might I find a club trial this year that I could see "beginers" in action?

  16. The Burnicle/Whitham duo makes entertaining listening during the WSB rounds but NOTHING can match the Keith Hewen/Julian Ryder combo during the Foggy era. That was fantastic. ( Jim Whitham is funniest tho' and has the added edge of being a Yorkshireman too )
  17. Just seen this registration plate on E-bay. Push the E and the 3 close together and you have Beta! Might look good on your van/car if you like that sorta stuff. It's running at a little over thirty quid at the mo' with 4 days to go.
  18. I know it's not trials but we had James toseland for World Superbike champ too. Did he get a mention? Did he hell! If you have anything to do with balls, of the round kickable/throwable/hitable type, then you're in with a chance of some recognition. Failing that just come third in some sort of running or jumping game. Now, if you're involved in a sport that requires REAL BALLS like leaping a motorcycle from objects that the average man would get dizzy just standing on or wrestling an 180bhp superbike into submission then you've no chance of being noticed. This countrys sport media is so blinkered. The only way you will get any media recognition for riding a bike in this country is to get caught speeding at some phenominal speed! Then you'll be in ALL the papers. OOOHH IT MAKES ME MAD !!

    On the subject of the snail adjusters. Does it really matter which way up you put 'em in? I mean, one way you turn 'em up to tighten chain and other way it's down to tighten.
  20. I have a '97 Techno. I note with interest the bit about "the rear brake needs bleeding". I have spent HOURS trying to bleed mine. The caliper's been stripped, I've changed the banjo bolts for Goodridge ones, I've tried a new bleed nipple, I've tried it with and without the little ball-bearing that sits behind the bleed nipple. I tell yer, I was wearing more brake fluid than the bike was carrying ! The problem was not getting the fluid through it's the fact that I can't get any sort of decent pressure. I've now decided that it MUST be down to the seals in the master cylinder. Although they look ok they must be releasing the pressure when it's applied hard. Does that sound reasonable? Are seals readily available?
  21. I bough a new lever, fifty six pounds !!! FIFTY SIX BLOOMIN' POUNDS!. Mind you, it was becoming a right pain trying to spin that shaft fast enough by hand .
  22. I would certainly whip the head off first and have a look at whats happening down there. If you can twirl a spanner it wont take you long. Piston ring gone..not too bad...pistion holed/broke..a bit more expensive...complete crank failure...utter nightmare! Let us know how the story unfolds wont you?

    Eeee lad, it'd take more than that to offend me. As a fellow Yorkshireman you ought to know I was just being daft . Anyway, got to go now. I've got to get the whippet walked before startin' my shift dahn t' pit and I don't know if me missus has ironed me flat cap yet . Cheers.
