I put the shielded type bearings back in mine so I hope they will last a while. My bike is quite old compared to yours as it was bought late 03 by first owner. Also I used some threebond on the centre of the cases with a new gasket. The old gasket had gone hard and brittle in places increasing the chances of crankcase air leaks. There was also plenty of sand and dirt in the flywheel side, when I get chance i'm going to seal round the grommet where the electric wiring comes through with some clear silicone possibly the flywheel cover too as that should have a gasket really. I was suprised when I looked on the parts list thought mine was just missing. Run the bike for a good 3 hrs solid on sunday and all appears to be ok. There is a bit of clutch chatter which seems to get worse as it warms up. Had to modify the float height to stop fuel overflowing from the carb but I think that's also normal. As for fuel oil mix effect on the bearings i'm using 1.5% and it runs good on that so far

OK, the two crank halves were way out, could be like you said chewy, the flywheel is massive Spoke to Lampkins last week who were very helpfull and the double shielded bearings are the correct ones. Apparently they have been using them for a few years now in Beta's. My bike is now back together

SKF was the make of bearings that came out of my bike. Which also sounds like a scraping noise, and it rumbles and you can feel it through the frame and pegs. I'm going to try and talk to lampkins to see if they will get me the code off one of their oe bearings to see what sort we should be using. Just had the crank re-aligned, the 2 halves were out of alignment. So it looks like someone has been there before.

Hello, I would go out and check that the shield ones are the correct type before you buy them as this has got me doubting that I have bought the correct ones. I can't be 100% sure that the ones that came out of my bike were the originals. Also my bike is an 04 270 so you may also want to check they are the same part number on the beta site When you get the cases apart you will see what I mean about the space behind the crank seal and bearing, one possible thing I thought is perhaps the fuel oil mixture builds up in here to some sort of level behind the seal and then trickles slowly through the bearing to lubricate it and the shields stop it from passing through too quickly???? Just an idea though don't know for certain. I would not expect them to have gone after 1 year though. My old thing looks like it has had 5 years of hard abuse on what I think are the originals. Would they not do you a deal like they supply parts you pay labour or something like that?

Well i'm no bearing expert but like I said I also questioned why they were shielded just as you said. Just stumbled upon what the codes mean while searching for the new bearings on the web as anyone would. I also thought it would be best to get as much oil to them as possible and was going for the regular type as they seem cheaper. Who knows maybee my bike has been apart before I owned it and incorrect ones were fitted at that time but they look original. Cases don't seem to have been apart before. Perhaps it may have been wise for me to ask lampkins if they would read me the code on one of their oe bearings and then I could have gone from there. I'm just assuming they are correct. All i've done is replaced them with what came out, and if they do me another 5 years then I will be happy. And thats 4 more years than the ones in Gaz's bike by the sounds of it. I'm not going to get into some sort of debate because I don't know enough on the subject. He asked for the size and that's 6206. Anyway good luck Gaz whatever type you decide to fit hope you get it sorted

Hi, If they are the same as an 04 then you need some 6206 zz c3 (c3 for incresased tolerance to allow for heat expansion??) Mine were less than half price of genuine ones for a good quality bearing. I also asked why they are metal shield type because surely you want the oil to get in and the supplier said they are shielded not sealed and when you look closely you can see small slots round the edge of the shield to allow oil in. There is an oil way on each casing half directing oil to the bearing and some space behind the crank seal when bearing is fitted to allow oil up behind the seals. Also would be worth checking if they can also supply the crank seals @

Hi, I have just got some mains for my 04 model, they are all the same i believe. Got them from a local supplier, the only thing that's different from the norm is they are double metal shielded code zz or 2z. Ill get the size today and post up the numbers tonight. They were

I should have ordered the gasket kit really but I had ordered the ones i needed separate allready. Just thought it was strange having a gasket in the centre of the cases as I would have thought there would be more possibility of crankcase air leaks and leaks from gearbox to crankcase doing it this way. Also noticed one of the reed petals not sealing shut correctly. Hopefully it will be a good bike once all the problems are sorted

Ok stripped the engine down and split the cases. There is a gasket in between. Do I put it back together with a new gasket or do people use the sealer like 3 bond or something as you would on the cases of an mx bike?? Main bearings are trashed. Cheers

Thought it would just be like a japanese 2 stroke where you can access and install crank seals from the outside. behind the clutch casing and behind flywheel/stator assembly??? And the seals being the normal plastic type that are tapped in lightly with a large socket or something of the same diameter. I'll have to strip it down and have a look. Don't really want to split cases at this stage as I wasn't planning on doing the main bearings. Cheers

Hello, This is my first post on here Bought this bike as a first trials bike, got it home everything seemed ok. Next day, give the bike a good clean up. Strip and clean the carb start greasing the bearings etc. I then notice there is no gearbox oil showing in the sightglass. I had some spare so I thought I would drop the old stuff out and put in some fresh oil. Ok, hardly anything came out, just a couple of drips. Filled it with the recommended amount and can see no leaks. Start the bike and it's now seriously smokey Mixed the fuel at 1.5% as the manual said. I suspect the crank seal on the oil side is leaking so has anyone put new seals in their beta and how much of a job is it to do? Any special tools needed? I have ordered the pair of crank seals, left casing gasket and waterpump housing gasket Thanks
