    Evo 250 Or 290

like chewy says unless you going to compete at the very highest level the 290 may be more of a hinderance than a help. i see top riders every week go clean on the whole trial on 175 and 200 bikes. your weight should play a big part in your choice. i would get the smallest smothest bike my weight could handle. im 80kgs and went for the 250.cheers

    Evo Rear Shock

i orderd one today. hope i get the same results.
  7. like i said they dont all have them. As far as im aware they are moststly supplied on uk bikes due to our lovely riding conditions. it is a large round disk held with 2 countersunk screws. you cant miss it ( if its there ) its the first thing you see when you remove the cover. if your cover is 1 piece then you dont have 1. hope this helps
  8. good news men ! after checking the pre load with me on bike does not exceed 1/3 travel ( it does not ) i spun the shock round to the correct position to get at the damper adjuster and found that it was turned fully out ( 4 turns ) so i have put it in half way. it has now lost the springy feel .hopefully this will result in more grip as per your advice. i will let you know how i get on at my next outing. i will keep all other settings as was and flywheel weight out so that i can be objective on the 1 answer i was looking for many thank to all. jokerr.
  9. yes ross it was big stu. but i promise i do have more than 1 mate. however his 17 stone could not stop my bike reving out with 2psi .
  10. cheers gary, i will try an IRC next change. regarding his bike my bike, we were both running simmilar aged tyres at approx 3.5psi. i got more grip on his and he got less than me on mine. (hope that makes sense) he is approx 3 stone heavier than me. the most noticable difference in the feel of the bikes was that mine now feels springy and his feels planted. this is what has lead me down the suspension trail. just to confuse things slightly, i just had a look at my rear shock to look at the damper adjustment. the manual shows the adjustment screw on the airbox side (easily accessable) . on my bike it is on the carb side (totaly unaccessable) whilst i dont think this will affect the performance of the shock, it appears to have been fitted the wrong way round from new. or does anyone know different?
  11. they dont all have them fitted but if it does. remove right hand side casing and plastic spacer ( 3 allen bolts ) flywheel weight will be visible remove 2 large countersunk screws and weight. replace side casing but not the spacer. 10 mins.
  12. i dont think its a tyre issue chewy. still pretty good edge. defo think its suspension related. Ralphs advise makes a lot of sense. my mate has recently replaced his rear shock because it was dead. he now gets a lot less grip with his brandnew soft shock than he did with his old dead one! we could not understand it untill we read Ralphs post .so he is now looking at the damping to sort his out. cheers.
  13. ah ha! this seems to make perfect sense lads. you see the bike is new and the suspension has lately softened right up and feels springy. i did not have any dramatic grip issues before infact i thought i had plenty. the only change i had made in the interim was to remove the flywheel weight. (much prefer the response with it out )but if it has to go back in then so be it. when riding the bike it feels fine and does not bottom out on drop ins and rides great other than very poor grip. will check the travel with me on bike as you suggest. do you think at 83kgs i need the uprated spring or do you think more dampening should do it? thanks
  14. thanks baldi. that was my initial thoughts. softer = more grip. my bikes suspesion is stock unaltered evo 250( soft with my 13 stone on it) i had removed the flywheel wich i loved in the dry. (now going back in) and i will also reduce tyre pressure even more . will also try black slow throttle. my bike was spinning out big time today when i could climb using my mates bike with no probs. the gulf in grip difference was huge and i was wondering if the suspension could be an issue. many thanks
  15. can anyone tell me what influence rear suspension has on improving grip if any? ie . to increase grip do i harden or soften the rear end? (flywheel is going back in and black throttle on order) cheers.

    Dragging Clutch Rev3

thanks dan, i will probably give it a go when the weather is a little better (garage is freezing) untill then i will try an alternative oil, currently using "silkolene light gear" it was the only thing they had at our local shop. i was considering atf but your comments on jerky take up have me reconsidering. cheers .

    Dragging Clutch Rev3

dan i tried to send you a pm but dont know if it worked. so here goes i have a 2010 evo 250 2t the clutch operates fine other than the bike will not roll freely when in gear, running or not, hot or cold . selecting neutral when running is also very difficult. neither of these issues are a show stopper for me ( dealer is 6 hour round trip away) but i would like to lighten the lever pull by removing 2 clutch springs . is this as easy as removing casing remove 2 bolts and springs? or does the whole clutch have to come out? if so i would consider carrying out your developed procedure on tabs and plates. does the whole clutch come out by removing the 6 spring retaining bolts? many thanks in advance jokerr.
  18. got a 2010 250 2t and i love it just finished running it in and leaned it off can wait for next outing previous bike was a 2008 4rt . the evo is just far easier to ride. unfortunatly i am still crap though.

    Evo Virgin

taking on fluids as we speak (dont know if lager is isotonic but it is in balance with my body fluid) as for breakfast i think i will opt for bacon and egg mc muff with extra muff. my mate ( 17 stoner) usualy straps a side of beef over his tank as he still has a 4rt and wont notice its there. regarding your concerns on knowing where the back wheel is? . to quote an unknown italian racing driver "whats behind me does not concern me" have a good weekend .

    Evo Virgin

i dont regret getting the repsol. if anything it exagerates the things you have to learn. but your spot on ! it feels like half the bike is missing. and dare i say it " more grip " and its a 2 banger. ive always been a honda man for build quality and reliability but for doing the actual job ( speaking as a newby) the beta has got it licked . i think the top riders will get the most out of the mont. i just think the evo is far far easier to ride . i love it!

    Evo Virgin

if its anything like the 250 you will love it! i just changed from 2008 (fat lass) 4rt and i love it 1st national tommorow and i cant wait .
  23. i get what your saying regarding technique jimmy. i have been keeping clutch out as much as possible and using a lot of back brake with good effect. but its when the clutch just has to be used ie tight turn reverse camber from a stand still. it realy should be easier. thats the whole point of a clutch, to engage the power smoothly. my mate has won a few things in yesteryear and he agrees the clutch just bites to sharply. i am no expert but it appears to me that the hole diameter on the standard master cylinder is oversize and the 1 from the 315 is smaller do you know if this is the case? if so then its a no brainer (unless your work for honda) waiting for sandifords opening again to get there thoughts . will keep you posted. cheers.
  24. i did not think it would be an oil issue as i have no clutch drag or problems starting in gear. only considering the front sproket as a last resort for easier pick up with 1 tooth less. i have already re ajusted the clutch . will have a look at the hose though. cheers
  25. yep 2008 and the expensive oil. i cant belive i'm considering changing stuff just to pull away smoothly. no clutch drag and no probs starting in gear . will consider changing the front sproket if i realy have to. what did you think of the 315 master cylinder?
