That's what I thought. I guess I'll give it go, gotta do something I need the bike both days this weekend and 2 days the weekend after.
Thanks!

I had thought of trying that next. Do you let the sealant set up at all or air it right away?

I have a rim strip driving me nuts. Had a small leak, very small, until after I mounted a new tire. After the new tire was on it was leaking bad out of the spokes so I installed a new rim strip (one pc valve stem type). Cleaned the wheel, lubed the strip good, made sure it was seated, aired it up and it leaks worse than ever. Nothing to lose at this point I took it back off and put bead sealer on the rim filling every spoke hole and coating the rim. Still leaking from the spokes. Anyone got a miracle cure? I have another strip coming but not sure it'll be here in time for the weekend. HELP!

Depending on where you are (USA here) I have found that a richer pilot jet (#38 I think) than stock helps starting. You'll also find that a Gasser may need to be choked even when hot. Takes a while to sort out starting a pro but once you get the hang of it it's not so bad.

Suntan lotion I've got, fresh out of that traction in a bottle stuff, maybe if I follow Cap I can ride in his tracks. That guy can get traction anywhere! I see I have to compete with Don T this year too.... yet another guy to kick my behind. It's all good, always fun competition in SR class.o

hmmmm hills and rain in the forecast...... that never works good for me, have to try the balls out slip the clutch thing
-
I didn't look at your location. There has to be a difference in the fuel or something, that's why I feel the need to rejet all the Euro bikes to make em run good for me here. I am in the USA at about 1100ft above sea level.

I find that a richer pilot works better. My wife has a new 250 and I put a 38 pilot and a 114 main in it, seems to be really good. Every Gasser I've had in recent years seems to be better after I put in a richer pilot and lean out the main just a bit. I am assuming you have a Pro.

I put an 36 spring in my wife's 04 280. She loved it. She didn't mind it stock till she rode my 07 300 and she asked how I could make her clutch work like that. It's a great mod.

The noise could be the bearings going out in the fan motor. If they are going out it could be slowing the fan down therefore causing it to run more. If it isn't rubbing I am guessing you need a new fan motor.

This is a problem with all the JTs I ever had. You can usually bend it out but I crash a lot and it always went back to rubbing. I had a patch welded on the inside of the silencer that I'm guessing was a bit thicker than the metal that the silencer is made of, still rubbed but never went through. I've seen guys rivet a patch on which allows for a quick change if it does wear out. Trick to that is getting it bent right so it doesn't reduce clearance. It was really nice when they went to the welded one piece exhaust ('07 I think?) haven't had it move a bit although I did have to space it out as it was rubbing right out of the crate.

I had this problem with a '95 250. Tried everything and finally put new pads on and the problem was gone. No idea what happened to the old ones, they looked fine and I tried cleaning, sanding, you name it. I do know the new ones I put on had less metal in the friction material. Get some new pads.

Your millage may vary...... I have an 07 300 and I love it but I have been on big bore bikes for a while (98 320 and 01 321). I am a senior rider an I don't find the 300 a handful at all. My wife and my son both have 280s and both like them. My wife has ridden the 300 and if she could start it she'd be on one, likes the engine but too hard for her to kick. She is waiting for an 09 250 that we have coming, again it's about ease of starting for the most part. I think the 250 will have enough power for her (she rides INT class in MOTA). I'm sure I could ride one but I like the snap off the bottom that the 300 offers. I find that proper jetting and dropping one tooth on the front sprocket makes any of these bikes great. Best advice is try em out if you get a chance before you buy. All trials bikes now adays seem to me to be good to ride, just gotta find the one that fits YOU.

There was no proposal for the vintage class this year. Last year it was discussed but didn't make through. Hopefully you know that we always welcome vintage riders and there is a provision to allow any club to run a class for them. I know last year a couple of events offered the class but it was not well attended. Watch the flyers and see if some rides offer the class this year. Do you feel there would be more vintage riders if there was a class with year end awards or even a "series" that a few of the clubs put together?

07 300, I tried the 11 that came on the bike, was too tall of gearing for me. 2nd gear didn't feel good in sections. With the 10 tooth front on I ride most sections in second and have first for the tight stuff and third for huge hills and extreme mud.

Forgot, I mix 1.5oz to a gal, comes out around 85 to 1 with Mobil 1 2 stroke oil. My pet oil is going away so I have to find something new soon.

We have 2 280s at our house, an 04 and an 05. Always use premium pump gas in both (92 octane), never had a fuel related issue (not related to octane at least). I don't see a need for race gas unless I hear pinging which I never have. As for the tranny fluid I use GM AutoTrak II (#12378508) and it seems to work very well. I fill it (bike level) till it's half way up the window. No idea how much that is by volume but I know it has the correct amount, I figure that's what the window is there for. Pays to fill it and take a short ride and check it again after it cools off. Been through 5 Pro models (6th on the way) from an 02 to an 07 and 200 to 300 and this has always worked.

I had a 98 320, ATF DexIII worked well in it.

Good point, I was thinking Pro models. My pre-pro TXTs didn't have any problems that didn't involve the fan motor itself or the wiring. The '01 321 I had was overheating and it turned out to be a bad connection, fan would seem to run but not when it needed to. Wiggled the wires and it would be fine for a while then overheat again. Did have to replace a few water pump seals too.

Is the fan moving a good volume of air? If so I still think it's the pump. One of the guys in my club had an impeller just fall apart this summer. Couldn't really tell till he tore it apart, once it was out the vanes on the impeller were...... well... pretty much not there. His fan had run so much that it ruined the fan motor and the black box that controlled the fan. His was also blowing the seal on the water pump and sending coolant into the gear case. I am guessing a shaft, seal, impeller and new bushing for the pump.

I don't see anything about stopping, hopping, or backing up. I assume the rules that determine what a "5" is are the same as our current rules? I can use the 50 bonus points, anyone have a kilt I could borrow?

Sounds (and looks) like fun. We'd be interested if the weather is not too bad. I would think the earlier the better and probably not over the holiday weekend. Let us know if you have it and when.

I hope so zippy, you do add entertainment

I would guess we were a little hard on ADV. I think Joe was riding some ADV and some EXP. Maybe you could have cleaned up had you been there! INT scores are a little higher than I had planned as well.

wildrace,
Could that old age setting in??? You're right about Graham, I have no idea what he's been doing but I need to do it too. Awesome ride in SR! I need to do a lot more practicing to keep up with these guys in SR, seems we have a bunch of damned good old farts riding.
