Forks are not leaking now, so looks like there was a bit of sh*t in the seal and its out now. But im convinced they should be travelling a bit further so after reading what TONY27 had to say about amount of fork oil im going to have them serviced anyway. Just spoke to the mechanic and he said he always measures the air gap and not the amount of oil, so atleast i'l have new seals, new oil and the right amount of oil put in. Looks like a night in the garage tonight then!!!!!!

Yeah, that paint only seems to be available in the US. Any in the UK??????????

Anyone know what paint is best for touching up the painted black frame on a 2007 sherco. I want to touch up the marks where the triple clamps have hit the frame and one or two other marks. i want to do it to protect the metal more than for the cosmetic looks, but obviously i dont want the paint to stick out like a sore thumb...

No, the forks on my 2007 sherco 290 are the ones with the red rebound (allan Key) adjuster on them. I've also noticed that my forks only seem to travel half the distance that they are suppose to, i checked against some on elses bike and theirs seemed to have double the travel. i have not touched the fork adjusters since buying the bike, as the forks feel tidy, a nice quick rebound just as i like it and tidy compression setting but they deffinatly should be travelling further. they do not bang to a stop as if they're bottoming out but its like as if they get really hard gradually until they cant go down any further. anyone got any ideas on this????????
-
Sounds like you've been busy since we went out on them???? i'l keep an eye on this thread to see how your getting on.
-
Its not an issue, i was just tring to find out if i was on about the right bolt.
-
I recentley purchased a 2007 sherco 290 so i dont loads about them yet, but i was advised to check the dog bone and swingarm bearings for movement. The 2006 had a dodgy shock but this was sorted on the 2007 ones. I would just check the usual things, wheel bearings etc... Dont know much on the 250 thou

How much gearbox oil goes in a 2007 sherco 290, i've downloaded a manual from the shercoUSA website but it only shows a 2003 model. It states in there that 450ml of oil is to be used, and is the drainage bolt in the same place as on the 2003 model. On the side of the engine, opposite side of the the engine from the filler plug??????????

Took the bike out yesterday for a couple of hours, and its leaking quite a lot through the fork seal, it was actually running down the out side of the bottom part of the forks. Spoke to the local trials shop and they said they'd service the forks for me, it'l cost me the price of the fork oil, the seals and about
-
Fitted an aluminium bronze bush yesterday to the brake lever, it should last a while as it is a very hard material that is used on bearings and bushes etc.... works a treat, no sideways movement at all.
-
Black & Dry Looking it was???????????????????????????
-
What spec oil do people use in the forks?? im about 13 stone.
At the moment the fork set up is spot on, if I leave all the settings the same and just change the oil and seals will the forks feel similar to how they are set up now????????
-
Typical, i'v only had the bike a few weeks, is it a big job??????????
-
My bruv has a 2003 rev3, the bike runs well but after a couple of times out on it, it will be hard work to start, so we take the plug out and it is always quite black and oily. soon as you put a new plug in, it starts first or second kick and runs tidy for a couple more outings. Any ideas???? he using a BP6ES. Some people have said about moving the clip??/ but should we move it up or down?????
-
im hoping like you said that there might have been a mark and by compressing the forks and holding them in that position has caused a little bit to leak. there was only a tiny bit on top of the seal. the leg itself was dry
-
After taking my bike off a trailor on saturday, i noticed a bit of oil on the fork seal on the one leg. the tubes are normally clean and theres been no evidence of a leak. could i have compressed the suspension too much using the straps on the trailor because the seals were inspected the same day during my MOT and were good, and i only put the bike back on the trailor and brought it home???????
-
Cheers copemech, just followed your advice and made a bush out of bronze on the lathe, wish i had thought of that before spending nearly a tenner on the bearing, nevermind i got a spare now. i'l have to fit it later and see if it cures the sideways movement.
-
My 2007 Sherco 290 has a fair bit of sideways play on the rear brake lever, this is then causing the brake pedal to scrape against the engine casing when i use it to break. Have anyone else had this problem??? I ordered a new bush and a new bearing so hopefully this will fix the problem????????????????????
-
Sanded the writing off my tyres, rubbed a bit of dirt into the area to blend it in and the bike pis*ed through the MOT
-
Yeah it its a michelin on the front and a dunlop on the back, Ive seen MST and a 'E' on them when i looked. So i'l scrap off the writing saying competition use later. Horn is continuous. Bought a
-
Just check my tyres, rear one says FOR COMPETITION USE and the front says IN USA AND CANADA NOT FOR ROAD USE!!! Does this mean i can use it on the road in the rest of the world. ha ha
-
Any luck drawing one on autocad???????????????
-
im liking the rawl bolt idea, i struggled the other day trying to tap a bearing out.
-
Sounds a good idea, a dremel and some dirt to hide the clean patch. ha ha cheers fellas

Got my MOT booked for saturday on my 2007 sherco 290. Been sorting things out, got a horn (looks like something off my baby's walker), paperwork ready and done bearings as they had a little play in them, spoke to the bloke in garage and he said he'll cut me some slack with the number plate as he knows its near impossible to hang a full size one off the mudguard. But im a bit worried about tyres. Which tyres are road legal. I got dunlops that say competition use on them, so obvious these are not. anyone got info on some road legal tyres???????
