so this was my first day riding in the expert class, i've been riding for 5 years, and waiting for this moment for all 5, well i rode everything, my points weren't very good, but i was realy happy how i rode, i pushed myself farther then i thought i could
well im still riding the same 97 beta techno 250 as when i started 5 years ago, and im very used to my bike, its the oldest bike in the expert class but thats ok, and at the moment i can't afford a new one, so seeing as i can't buy a new bike im going to get mine into the best shape possible untill i can get a new bike
so....
for starters im going to buy new springs for my fork and shock, im getting all new rear end bearings and bushings and bolts
im going to buy a 38 tooth sprocket cause my bike is geared realy low, and my first gear is absolutely useless and i should be riding more sections in 1st and 2nd, where as im riding them in 2nd and 3rd, im also going to get a non O-ring chain for less rolling resistance, i've got boysen reeds in it, i've also got a 4 piston front brake
does anyone else have any other sugestions, i want to change the jetting to get more snap out of the engine but i don't know anything about jetting
any help would be appreciated
thanks

hey guys
i've been lookin through the photos from Duluth and noticed the huge splat, with spotters hanging from ropes and hay bails at the bottom of the rock wall.
i was wondering whats the biggest splat ever done or attempted?
and if you've got any pictures to share that would be cool
-
I put boyesen reeds in my 97 techno and it seemed to soften my bottom end and it greatly increased the top end, i didn't play with the jetting too much, so i could probably get alot more snap out of the bottom end. but with the stuff i ride i like a good powerfull top end and smoother in the lower revs, all round great for the money.
-
wow, its been a while since i've posted on TC, but trying to graduate and ride doesn't leave alot of time for the ol computer
steve, how can you call beta's names when you just bought your son one, if memory serves me correctly gasgas make a kids bike
we all know you secretly yern for a Beta
as for the original question, i've never ridden an 00' rev but i've ridden an 01' rev and thought it had a great feel, and nice power, the only thing that would make me think twice about the 00' would be the usd forks, but ride it around a bit, you may be worrying about nothin
-
welders always come in handy, even if its just a small job
and it saved you alot o money, which is bonus
(i didn't say anything about the welds )
-
i don't think you'll have a problem with thick oil in a beta, it will probably make your clutch feel nicer, i run 80 wt redline in my beta, works great
my dad runs 10w 30 in his monty i believe( it might be something else but its way lighter)
it won't hurt anything, if you don't like it just change it
and i've been told that beta's like heavier oils, and im a firm believer of it
-
I've welded cracks in peg mounts but if it snapped a piece clean off i think it would be safer to get a new one, unless you have extreme faith in your welding capabilitys or the welder
-
i just undo two little clamps things
and twist and pull the carb out of my bike
im riding a 97 techno, its a very easy bike to work on i've found
-
my bikes set up for heavy hits, its a hardtail though
i've done some north shore riding its alot of fun
i've done a bit of DH too, lots of fun
trials definately helped me alot on a bicycle, i rode more stuff in my first month then people who have been riding for years have
i've also gone bigger then most experienced riders too
but trials to me is more challenging, and gives a better thrill
but its still fun to haul off cliffs and fly down a steep mountain on a bike
-
i haven't ridden any modern bikes smaller then a 250cc
so i can't say i don't like the 125's
but i have had a go on a TY80 and TY125
i thought the TY was gutt less, and so was the 80
but the 80 was so much fun, mainly because of its size, it made a 2 foot log a very big obstacle, wheelies were alot of fun though
i guess its a little off topic but ohwell
i just wish i had spare money to go and buy a little GG50 to play on
just for kicks
-
i'de watch out for the feet slipping off the starter
i've got a huge scar in my leg from slipping off the starter and putting the foot peg in to my leg on the way down
not a pleasant experience, but since then i've learned to kick a bit more jently and be cautious when its wet out
-
my 97 techno WILL start even if the fuel has been left on, but it starts way faster if the fuel is shut off after every ride
and it does p*** out gas if the fuel is left on and its at an angle
i'de just replace it, couldn't be worth too much
-
i completely agree, why hop when you don't need to
but still i've saved a couple dabs by a little hop of the front or rear wheel
its a good thing to be able to do, but learn when and when not to use it
plus it takes alot more energy out of you to hop your way through everything, so a smart rider only does it when needed
-
i just got in to mountain biking for some cross training
i do some trials on it to, its realy helped with my leg strength
and its good for balance too, but nothing beat the motorcycle trials bike :santa1:
-
no matter how hard i try to be nice, i still didn't get that new bike under the tree
but i got some bike bits, and some mountain bike bits
all in all it was a very good christmas, especialy the food :santawink:
-
sorry but im not
i am a little know it all though :santa1:
at least i try to be(just not an anoying one)
-
again all of that is just speculation becuase of MX bikes
the only real trials 4 stroke knawledge is from the bike that ishys got
and thats getting old so, we'll just have to wait and see :santawink:
-
i think it definately has to do with set up
i've got my 97 techno suspension set up very nicely, its not as good as a brand new bike, but i can still hop it every which way
i just learned to do flip turns to
and i know alot of people who can't do them on there brand new bikes
so im going to have to say its set up
-
that'd take a lot of guts to try and catch air on one of those
i think the flat dirt track would be a blast though
-
i know how to pedal hop
i just can't seem to get the hight or the distance out of mine
im not using a proper trials cycle, but i know people who can do it on
mountain bikes too
thanks

-
i wanna know everything there is too it?
cause i'de rather do it then pay a bike shop to, and its good knawledge
-
i bet i could ride the champ line on the beaut
my techno wouldn't stand up to that little beast
-
go for the 04 beta rev-3
you know you wanna
-
i can't wait till the new 4 strokes come out
i have alot of confidence in the factorys, that they will make a machine that will out power and out perform a 2 stroke.
but im going to wait a couple years so they can get the kinks out of them first
-
the foot pegs are a little far forward for my likeing
