refitting the bash plate is going to be a challenge........
unbolt the two arms what hold the rad in place and pull them forwards slightly, put the 2 allen bolts in the bottom of the skid plate and then get some bolts with the same thread as the two front bolts about 60mm long (not to long will hit the engine) wind one side in enough to fit the original ones in, worked every time
-
solved one problem removed oil and there was just about the same as i put in, there is no gearbox breather on or the little bung that sits int hole and iv been jetwashing it to the max when
returning home,
after taken the head off the bottom gasket was oily wet so that could be a blown gasket
and when i rest my parm on where the bottom gasket goes and put my fingers in the flywheel it has a twitch rock (havent a flywheel extractor yet) but not no expert with the wood ruff key but when i look down the shaft it looks like the keys still there (with nut off)
all this on one ride out
(was thinking could a little wobble on the flywheel alter my timing make it go in reverse and because i still rode it home it felt like a bag of clappers and sounded its made my gasket go) mad eh
thanks lee
-
think it is a gearbox breather
-
forgot the jetwashing just took my engine out to day and noticed a hole (crankcase breather) havent a bung and pipe on it
think i have a well unlucked after motor
i only ever done top end work on my bikes so im just trying to get to grips with the bottom end like when i hold my flywheel it has a little twitch in it when i rock it is that normal
-
when ive taken the nut off the flywheel you can see the grove and the key (or should i just take it off properly and check) cheers lee
-
hi hope someone can help as from my recent posts i have just done a top end rebuild, been on 5 outing and every things been ok when i was out last week the bike
started to make knocking noises and the bike started to feels not right at tick over and then started to go in reverse.
took the fly wheel cover off and nut the wood ruff key is still there, so checked the rad no water in the bike at all, took out the oil bolt and roughly 10-15ml of water came out first and the oil was all gray milky , took off the cylinder head and the crank is really oily when turned (thick black)
is the crank (top end) sealed from the gear box or can water still get in there from head, and would that explain why my bike is running like crap
thanks lee

the montesas flywheel has no places to put nuts and bolts (looks like a good tool like)
just removed the nut with the rachet strap and my woodruff key is still in when i grab hold of my flywheel and give it a good rock i can fell a slight movement dose this
mean my bottom end bearings have gone
thank lee
-
cheers sounds a better way ill give it a go
thanks lee
-
was thinking of useing rachet tye downs rapped round the flywheel and foot peg for support
can you use the rachet gun without a holding tool
-

(any home made tool tips )
thanks lee
-

-
now then , just would like to know how much gear box oil to put in my montesa 315r 2000 and how much 2 stroke per litre thanks lee
just one more thing got a new piston and one side says (in) and the other says (5m) just wondering which side the exhorst side, av looked at apex motors and coping off the diagram 5m points to the exhorst side is it right thanks lee
-
to do sumet to the head, not piston or out
-
Theres a local motobike shop nearby which is spose to reline/polish the head for 10 pound , then fit an over sized piston dose this sound true if so is it just as good as a reline.
remove head very mild dark lines
thanks lee
-
the head is a gonna it needs a re-skim, the in side is rough, i was just thinking about the bits of piston (profile pic) there is load missing, just wanted to know what i could use to flush out the con rod part with. thank lee
-
it looks like its gradualy worn away and when its finaly gone a small piece has scaped up the head and past the rings which i removed from the top of the head, the con rod is very smooth it has a small rock from left to right dont know whether this is normal, (what would i use to flush out the engine)
thanks for rep all lee
