  1. I guess the title is self explanatory, but I'm wondering if the hose clamps and cylinder head o-rings on my TXT Pro are reusable, even once, or should you purchase new ones each time you want to take a hose off (or the cylinder head? Thanks in advance, Jon
  2. I've signed up and I'm enjoying watching the historic coverage. Very entertaining, and quite a bit of video time for each event, close to an hour I think for the last indoor event. As an added bonus apparently you could watch a live feed of the Marseille event..... well worth the money.
  3. Yes, you are probably right. For me, the tradeoff of robustness for light weight was worth it, but for the average guy riding at a club level who likes to (or needs to) keep his bike for a number of years the 4RT is still a great option. I bought mine used (and paid too much), sold it two years later (for not enough) and still it really didn't cost me much in depreciation. And nearly zero running costs. But still, fingers crossed for a new one, maybe Honda will eat crow with the 2 stroke thing. IIRC they are still making 2-stroke MX bikes, and the reality of direct injection is that a 2 stroke can actually be lighter, cleaner, cheaper, and smaller than a 4-stroke.
  4. No, I am a big fan. Big enough that I really wish I could buy a newer, better, lighter one. I feel like a traitor riding the Gasser. If I sound critical it's due to the fact that the 4RT's day has come and gone, I'm just comparing to the latest crop of bikes.
  5. Hey Nigel can you elaborate a bit? Does this mean we as potential consumers will see the development happen next year by Bou, Fuji, et al and then can buy one in the fall or is that not what you mean? Thanks for whatever info you can provide. I'm a big fan of the Montesa and for one think that the technology exists (and certainly Mont/HRC have the engineering power) to build a fantastic 4 stroke trials bike.
  6. Well bringing this back from the dead......... lots of time has passesd, but there is a glimmer of hope: From the FIM Website: The Japanese Trial Grand Prix at Motegi welcomed a very special guest. Mr. Takanobu Ito, Chief Executive Officer of Honda Motor, was an interested visitor at the Motegi World Trials. Mr. Ito spent some time with the Repsol Montesa team and enjoyed the opportunity to speak with current FIM Trial World Champion Toni Bou and his Japanese teammate Takahisa Fujimani. Mr. Ito confirmed that a new trial model was in the works and confirmed hes desire to renew the contract with current World Champion Toni Bou. Anyone know any more?
  7. Mine did the same thing, it wasn't until I took the carb off and blew the jets out that it would work again. Little bit of crud in the pilot(?) jet the really tiny one near the main.
  8. Check every bolt for tightness after a couple outings, I found quite a few not insignificant ones loose. Oh, and my shifter fell off in a section. The bolt that holds it on needs to be tighter than you might think. Enjoy the new bike!
  9. So the prez of Honda visited the Motegi circuit this weekend: http://www.fim-live.com/en/media/news/news...al-in-motegi-1/ Which is likely a good sign as long as he wasn't there handing out pink slips....... which brings me to the age-old question of wether or not they (Montesa) are ever going to introduce a new model?
  10. I went through this on Saturday, and I agree with JSE on the root cause of the problem. I was able to "dislodge" this bubble by removing the brake pedal and dust boot, and actuating the master cylinder with a philips screwdriver. With a hose on the bleed nipple, open the nipple half a turn and leave it open, and move the Master cylinder all the way until it bottoms. Do it fast, when I did this it dislodged some pretty big bubbles. Brake is still not great but it go tme out riding for the day yesterday.
  11. Mine was like that as well, possibly a sharp edge on the hole to the resevoir hose, which could waer away at the lip on the seal?
  12. Use dot 5 silicone? But wow that shouldn't be happening..... now I'm worried for mine.
  13. Great to hear - I'm just in from getting mine done too. Syringe bleeding didn't seem to do the trick, I had to "pressure" bleed the system by pumping fluid through with the M/C, but with a screwdriver, not the pedal - not enough travel with the pedal, had to push it right in to rid the system of air trapped in the M/C.
  14. I guess maybe swap ecu/throttle body from/to other bike?? You're right about the spark, that should eliminate pickup and or power issues. Unless not enough juice to run fuel pump and injector. Spark doesn't take much energy, but the pump/injector might. I'm with Big John on this one, maybe the throttle cable!!!
  15. My memory is fuzzy on this it's been a while since I did the oil change on mine but do you have to remove the side cover and disrupt the wiring in the region?? I think the pickup for the ignition is in there so it might be worth a look. You might also try hooking 12v supply to the electrical system and disconnect the rectifier, then try to run the bike on external power. to isolate any potential problems with the charging/elect system and you could also check the current draw with the bike "at rest" to ensure there are no shorts to ground.
  16. Same symptoms as my '09 pro (that only has 10 or 12 hours on it). When I took the Master Cyl apart the seal was knackered, looked like a peice of something was stuck in the hole that lets fluid in from the resevoir, and it was abrading the seal. I ordered a kit and will install it once the pain goes away. What a co-incidence that it was the REAR brake. Please let us know the results.
  17. I Like the name too, seems to be common in this thread. Jonathan, myself, and one other fellow travelled down from Canada, on the way we rode a pretty tough club event in MN the weekend before, then a few days at the TTC during the week before driving to OK. In hindsight, it was a lot of fun but did not really allow for a lot of rest and recuperation before the national. That said, "giving up" is not in Jonathan's vocabulary, he's a tough bugger. Not to mention his minders were off riding the support line half the time....... Jon(ny042)
  18. Great Job Pat (and Ryan) Might be a good time to remind people of: http://www.trialsworldfund.com/
  19. Wrong on both counts, but I am good friends with Andrew and the aforementioned Mr. English and the other Scottsman from TBay that everyone else knows. Andrew and Mr. English and myself are headed to OK together, we're going to drop by the TTC for a few days on the way. Looking to be a fun week! Steve, we havent met, but I saw the video from JE's recent visit. Wow! Looks like fun. Way to show a visitor a good time!
  20. I'm driving 1,938km to ride the OK nats in a couple weeks..... from Thunder Bay, ON, Canada Toronto Maple Leafs? Really? They really should change it to Leaves. A little bit of embarrasing Canadiana.
  21. I ended up ordering some gear (pants and a jersey) from http://www.mce-shop.com and they were very helpful. I did get the non-repsol montesa gear that I thought was completely unavailable. Shipping from Andorra to Canada was a little pricey, but offset the fact I did not have to pay duty or sales tax out of my pocket. Love the gear, too. I seem to ride much better when I'm wearing it.
  22. That's what I was afraid of..... too bad. Really too bad. Lets hope not. As for a new model, I thought they came out in 2005? So that makes six production years without a single significant production change. Adding a coat of paint doesn't count IMO. Add to that the fact that many of the parts are carried over from the 315, and a new model will be due by 2011, economic climate or not. In order to sell bikes they need to keep coming up with the latest, greatest, gotta have..... like they did with the 4RT, what a huge success. As for "clean" engines, Honda (and many others) has the direct injection 2-stroke technology that would be ideal for a trials bike. Too bad it may never make it there.
  23. Surely the 4RT is getting ready for replacement? As brilliant as it is, it's time HRC/Mont replaced it with a direct injected two stroke less 25 or 30 pounds. Maybe I'll start a petition.
  24. Looks like pretty limited sizing, though. Too bad, I'd really like a set of the Montesa gear (without the repsol).
  25. I changed to a fast throttle before this past weekend (two day event). Huge difference, I would swear the bike has more power now. Also the gearing feels different!! Hard to explain but it was especially noticable on the loop trail, it seems like there is much less of a jump from 3rd to 4th now. Highly recommended upgrade, and I although I was worried about the throttle becoming too sensitive for my ham fist, no problem at all.
