  1. Further to this, the Sardent club are running a two day classic twinshock and pre 65 trial , 14 15th June. It uses many of the sections and route of trial discribed above and in previous years albiet a single day has been very good. Details can be found on the AFATA Trial ancienne website. Bon chance
  2. I had a 320 Majesty and tried everything to make it run right . In then end it was sold and I bought what I should have done in the first place ... a Fantic... Very disappointed as I really like the Majesty but I think in 250 form it may be the better bet..
  3. I have to agree, the TY in original form won hundreds of trials and unless you are a super star riding very hard trials I see no real benefit Sorting the drum so it works with new shoes and cable would be simple and very cheap to do.
  4. I would leave it as a drum. If it is in good condition and the brake is set up correctly its excellent .
  5. Yer, and if its all about looking like it did back in the day..... Should nt all the riders wear BARBOUR JACKETS AND TROUSERS..or a footing coat.... perhaps that should be in the regs .......A photo submitted with you in your riding gear next to the bike you intend to ride.... Its just a thought..... might trim the entries a tad......The price of Barbour jackets on ebay ........
  6. You are very lucky big john..and its a credit that your bikes are unmolested and original ....changing the subject , what number do you have in mind for next year....
  7. One of the suppliers you mention at the start is busy product testing in France, last week, and possibly Spain this weekend. These are cottage type businesses so they have other things to do other than wait for the phone to ring....even if it means they might miss out on a sale..
  8. English was never my strong point , as you can see with imagaine.... wheres the spell check....
  9. Yes its the same as ..sorry for the error.. I dont get to use the word very often, although I imagaine its in the Scottish press most weeks..............
  10. Excellent prom vid.. Don t really understand the thinking though, when you can only have 180 riders .
  11. After watching the young bucks in action sunday throwing themselves at large steps whilst now wearing body armour as well as the normal trials garb,as well as a minder to catch the flailing bike I guess the new kill button rule may well be nessecary. Me plodding around on my Ariel, twinshock and or aircooled mono may be a little OTT. The insurance issue and bike registration etc has got to be good though. Perhaps trials riders should do the French time honoured thing of striking... against these new introductions ... the road riders here are all at it because they don t agree with the introduction of MOTs on motorcycles .
  12. I often read here that many British trials riders like to venture across the channel and I would just like to update on a couple of issues that will more than likely be implemented next year .... All bikes, pre 65, twinshock and modern must have lights front and rear fitted . Kill switches / buttons will no longer be accepted as they will require the type that is used in speedway. ie. a cord round the wrist connected to the kill device that then your hand leaves the bars it activates etc etc ... I am lead to believe that this has been forced upon the clubs by the federations who in turn have been lent on by the insurance advisors. This may be subject to change but things are hotting re bike registration, bike licence and insurance with even the more laid back clubs fearfull of turning a blind eye as the stakes have been raised considerably. Hope that helps Bon Soiree
  13. Hi I have a newish shoei helmet as well as several others, its not a case of being tight I can assure you . The helmet in question is a very nice example of a period FANTIC mpa type. It would be nice to get it back to a useable state, whether I use it in competition or not . I take on board everything said above , however I just wanted to see if anybody knew of a place that would refurb the interior I dont really want a lesson in elf and safety ......
  14. I would tend to agree with both comments, but the helmet exterior is in perfect condition. For some reason the previous owner had taken the padding out of the interior leaving some fabric, but rendering it unuseable. It would be perfectly alright to use if and when I can make it more comfortable to wear.
  15. Could anybody point me in the direction of a firm or individual that would refurb the interior of a crash helmet. Thanks
  16. The biggest problem you will encounter is any club letting you ride without a licence. If you can borrow bikes, I have never heard of trials bikes for rent,, all well and good, but to actually ride in a trial unless your friends are happy to join a club and get a licence its almost a non starter.. sorry If you were heading further south , the club I belong too has an 80 and 125 beta with which they do a saturday trials school, every saturday with a qualified instructor... Good luck as I will be asking a similar question about New Zealand shortly, a trip becons in JAN 2013 would love to take in a trial if possible ...Any body near Auckland got a pair of old wellies and helmet with an a twin shock they don t mind lending out... I wont bend it .. honest...
  17. Hi i spoke to one of the organisers this week to see if they had some other waifs and strays to cobble a team together and it seems it will not pose too much of problem. They have currently nearly 400 riders entered .. Usually they have a few guest riders and at the moment they are awaiting replies before they announce the line up. Should be good although maybe the queues might dampen it a little..
  18. For future reference look at www.afata.fr/trophee/calendrier this has most of the major French classic trials dates.
  19. Bonjour, Anybody going to the classic trial in Provence in October... Being " Larry no mates " I need two riders to make up a three man team riding the Twin shock hard route . Let me know if its of any interest.. Just to add .. If any other halves need persuding to come along, my wife is usually bored stiff so she goes off and explores Provence and is happy to take along any other equally bored Wags......
  20. I snaffled up a very clean 309 Fantic today...after all the suggestions its what took my fancy..this week...Looking around the various internet sites there is some really good value in the mono aircooled bikes at the moment, will they remain so if the age group that rode them back in day decides to revisit their youth and a class for them takes off....
  21. 1, Tempted , but no .. 2. Don t remember many people able to get the best out of those , when they cost lots more in their day and usually well beaten by the TY and others 3. Know Joel and the chap who cleaned the Effel tower on one so would be ok for spares and set up advice , but see above , but with out the price tag... 4. Tempted but under the impression if you drop it you might not get the bits to make it pretty again .. but perhaps worth a second look.....
  22. Having decided to invest in an early mono to compete against the modern bikes in the intermediate class.. where should I put my money.. I fancy a Fantic 305 or the slightly more modern Aprillia climber . Having had neither back in the day, like a lot of people I had a mono yamaha , which way should I jump as I would like something a little different. If anybody has any whys or why nots please feel free... Thanks
  23. Whilst I agree with all of the above, and just to open this particular can of worms a little further, could some one give me a valid reason why later FANTIC engines , the grey reed valve ones in the second wave monos, are accepted in highly doctored 240 frames. When this one is beyond the pale.... Just so no one thinks I am sitting on the fence... I think they should both be treated the same.....however....
  24. Its with great sadness I have to report that John sadly passed away on Sunday following a stroke the previous day. A great supporter of trials in the EASTERN centre and classic trials up and down the country and sometimes across the channel.. A good friend always on the end of the phone to offer advice and will be sadly missed, with always an opinion on what ever subject........not only trials. RIP
