    My French SWM guru told me to buy a Venhill cable for an Yamaha xt 500 when we renovated my Gunaco a year or so back. Seemed to be the mod back in the day , if that helps. I did and it fitted like a dream. Also having a trawl around the various sites I saw that Venhill do a teflon coated inner cable, do any of the Swm buffs on here know whether one is avaliable in any form that would fit. Patrik, the Swm is at the doctors as we speak having further surgery on its clutch with the new mods, I will let you know how it turns out. Maybe a teflon cable may heal is recovery a little more.
  4. How can any serious trials rider not... have his motorcycle licence. I imagine many on here took their test on a trials bike. Fantic 240 1982.
  5. The 240 was a fantastic bike when it came out... I remember the time I first saw one. Even now it takes some beating, surely up there if not the best twinshock ever....

  7. You can in France, and the last rear one cost me 115 euros.. Both front and rear avaliable... Doesn t help anybody in the uk but, they are avaliable.
  8. Can someone more informed than me tell me how much difference in terms of grip, with a modern tyre does differing amounts of air make. I always ride with slightly harder tyres as the trade off, a puncture and or grip always swings it. I would work on riding technique rather than whether 3psi is too little and 5 too much.

  11. Riding a trial yesterday near Cognac, completely driven mad buy this Brexit nonsense..Every bloody rider wanted to give me their opinion. After lots of pontificating and shrugging of shoulders, its seems they Frenchies I know, are happy.... as sterling has dived and the bits they buy in the Uk for their classic bikes will be cheaper. Happy days... In motion, should now be out motion....
  12. The poster stated he was looking to use the engine only in a early SWM rolling chassis. I imagine most of these Aprillia's are having the clutch harvested to try and make an original SWM less tiresome, and this maybe some of the reason for doing it in this case. I will let more informed poster's and SWM followers pass comment or not... to whether this is an acceptable, in the spirit of twinshock, mod. I have fitted later jumbo forks to mine, but decided to leave the clutch casing alone, and persevere with the original. I too would keep it intact to ride in the appropriate class. Out of interest bikes, with engines from... 307/309 Fantic, Honda Rtl, and dare I say it Majesties or copies with Mono Ty engines accepted still in the Twinshock class in the Uk . Here in France they are no longer able to ride if inserted in to twinshock frames and they have died a very sudden death with the aircooled mono class starting albiet slowly.

Cruel........, barmy summer days, proper sections , a sit down under canvas, with all the riders and wags, looking at black and white cine films on a huge screen whilst quafting copious amounts of vin rouge. Fresh crossiants in the morning.... Have I missed anything..... Rubbing shoulders with names remembered from the days of Trials and motocross news from the seventies and eighties........It really is a great weekend and very doable from the channel ports.. There are only 150 allocated riders, give or take, so if this has whetted your trialing appetite get entered...
  14. Just had the reg's drop through the door for Joel Corroy's trial at Arbecey. Two days 20/21 st August. Anybody thinking of a little trip across the channel or can take it in whilst on holiday, its well worth it. Four routes 100 km of interzone with 30 sections per day. Camping on site. Saturday night evening meal with accompanying rock band.. Joel really knows his stuff and his trial is excellent, up there with the best trials to do.... in France... See you there..
  15. Honda TL 125 is possibly one of the worst trail/ trials bike there is to compete on . Had one as a young man many moons ago then a TY 175 then a new Fantic 200 they are not even on the same page as a Ty or Fantric... Don t do it...
  16. To be honest, I would leave it to others to clarify why, certainly I am sure the Laird from his time in France remembers Claude Coutard riding a Greeves of similar standing. Charles rides his fathers bike, very original, or so it seems to me, being no expert . I understand and willing to be corrected, there was some issue with it and his entry got knocked back. Perhaps others know more, this was gleaned on the Classic French trials grapevine where his supporters were a little mifted.
  17. I will send this over to Charles Coutard so he can include it in his entry pack for next years Pre 65 Scottish, unless I am mistaken, this looks remarkably like his bike that seemed to trouble the scrutineers this year...
  18. A few years ago the Hamilton trials club boys were very hospitable to a holidaying Brit, lending out a Bultaco , helmet and boots. If I could repay that a little to someone down under visiting chez moi, you are welcome to come and borrow a twinshock and have a days riding here in the Dordogne. I live near Sarlat la Caneda worth a visit on its own.... and have some great sections, if you fancy it let me know, but not on a Friday or Saturday. Say hi to all the boys near Auckland, what a great place.
  19. Thanks for the replies, the guy asking works for an engineering firm, and just wanted me to pose the question. He has access to all the toys to do the work he just wanted to check with people in the trials know... what was best. I will pass this on

  22. The vents on one of the fork tubes on my bike has venting issues, a very audible one when the forks are working. Even after a robust soak and clean its made no difference. Its either the araldite route or.. speaking to the Magical's man in Spain before Christmas, I was led to believe some new ones may soon be available as replacements with a valve you can fiddle with.....

We look forward to anyone that wants to come, its eight and half hours from the channel ports, so a long way for just a ride , but well worth making a short stay or holiday, the weather should be good and its a very popular holiday destination with plenty non motorcycling things to do.. et volia..
  25. Bikes should be insured but its nearly 100 pct off road with only two road crossings so I don t think its an issue. You don t need a licence or a club membership. We do retain the right to say no to anybody that really doesn t look like they have half a clue however, or their bike looks unsafe etc etc.
