  1. My boss has an old 1995 Gas Gas he's thinking of selling... pretty sure it's a JT25 as he said he's sure it's a 200's size engine... other than a bad master cylinder for the rear brake he says it's in near perfect condition... he's a collector/rider of sorts so he takes care of his rides both cars and bikes... what would be a reasonable price to pay for it? KBB (Kelly Blue Book) shows $1275 as a suggested retail value. This will be my first trials moto should I pick it up. Kawika
  2. I wasn't looking to bury it. I know what you mean though... as an avid paintballer who plays a lot in sandy areas and a once-avid shoreline fiherman I know how metallic things and sand, and fine sand dust, don't get along well.
  3. Being as I've yet to ride my first trials bike... do they perform well in sandy condition? My buddies like to have a good time at a couple of nearby sand pits/quarries and I've seen them struggle in deeper sand, sand hill climbs with their dirt bikes... well at least the 125's struggled... the 350's and quads made the hill climbs look easy and compared top the dirt bikes, the quads breezed through the thicker sand. Does a trials bike's weight and torque help or hurt them in the sand? In most trials videos I've seen... I've only seen the bikes in areas that would make a mountain goat break a sweat.
  4. Can't say that I do Steve. I'm a newbie to the trials world but I hope to have a nice lengthy stay. Who knows... maybe one day I'll run into one of the two fellows mentioned... and by "run into" I mean meet.
  5. Thanks for that info Ralphy. Those speeds are plenty fast. Those were not for extened times though right?
  6. okay guys I get the picture. I guess I'm just over concerned with the thought that when I do get around to purchasing me a trials bike (there's a nice 07 Gas Gas 280 Pro for sale here on the island that I'm thinking about) I may forget myself when out in the trails with my friends who will be riding trail/dirtbikes and try to stay on the throttle and keep up with them... guess I'll do the keeping up in the rough then.
  7. Just wanted to know the general top speed of a trial bike in the 250-300 size. I know they're not built for speed but how fast do you folks go, or have gone and for how long, when one gets to a open strecth on their trial bike?
  8. Thanks Andrewwww... appreciate the reply. Anyone experience radiator or brake problems with the newer (05 and newer) models?
  9. Hey bro... give Clayton a call... the number posted still works... even though he lives on Kauai he knows a couple of guys on Maui that may be able to accommodate you. Best of luck to you... enjoy your stay be safe and have a good one.
  10. That weighs heavily in my decision making since I'm living on an island. If Scorpa had beeb on the same scale as Gas Gas that would've been great... I was looking really hard at the Long Ride models.
  11. Thanks for the responses guys... I like the reassursance I'm getting. I originally posted this thread in the general section but it got moved here...makes sense though as it is model specific... even though these replies come from Gas Gas owners, I'm sure these are open minded and objective.
  12. Now that is funny about the swear filter... I had to think twice, lol. I called up Clay earlier this weeek and we talked for a while about a new ride... he was very helpful and gave some good insight seeing as he is riding the same terrain I look to be riding. It's all about scraping up funds now... dang economy.
  13. I'm looking through the older posts and find a few posts about reliability issues with the Gas Gas line. Is this apparent in newer models or was this a older model issue? If it's just one of those things where the owner needs to a lot of preventative maintenance then that's not so bad... but if it's one of those things where you need to stock up on extra parts like they're going out of style then it may be an issue.
  14. I'd love a Montesa but I'm looking to keep my spendings under that of a smaller sized new car, lol.
  15. Thanks guys... I'll look into the 250's. How long does your fuel last on your rides? Do you guys carry extra fuel when going out on trails?
  16. I'm currently going through all of the older threads right now but figured I might get some good advice if I started my own thread too. In my younger days I got a little turned off by dirt bikes because I'm somewhat vertically challenged... 5' 3" to be exact. A cushy desk job has plumped me up to the 200lb. mark (used to walk around @165/bs)... hopefully some of that will melt off with a new diet/ workout plan and some trial/trail riding sessions on Sundays and weekdays after work... Saturdays are reserved for paintball. My riding abilities are somewhat limited since I haven't ridden anything in the last 15yrs.... except for my mountain bike and BMX some dirt jumping anyways... used to ride a YZ125 back in high school but like I said before... being short legged sucks so I stuck to ocean activities (body-boarding,spearfishing)... being in Hawaii does have some perks... the nice beaches make up for the lousy $3.49/gal. gas prices. With that said... I'm looking at a Gas Gas as being a new ride for 2010... I usually get a nice tax return and now have a good place to spend it. If I really stick with it (and I plan to), would I satisfied with the 125 or would I outgrow it quickly? I'll also be using the bike I get for some trail riding too so I'd like to know what kind of run time you guys are getting with your trials rides. Thanks, Kawika
  17. I'm over on Maui... riding my desk... would much rather be riding a bike though. Don't inhale too much Vog Andy, lol.
  18. It's been a while since I've rode anything on two wheels but a couple of friends have stirred up the feelings again. Though the plan is to go trail riding, I've been looking to try out trials. Hopefully with some avid weekend riding and a new diet/workout, I can regain some of my old form... it's hard to stay in shape behind a desk, lol. I'll be posting questions here and there and would appreciate any input you seasoned riders could offer an old dog looking to learn some new tricks. Kawika
