I had the same trouble with mine, after getting frustrated to the point of exploding I fitted a tube.
-
Ok after chcking and double checking everything I decided to spend some more money on a Rectifier and it now runs fine Thanks for all the advice and mesages. Cheers Phil
-
Bit of an update, the stator was said to be faulty and has been rewound so when its fitted back on the bike I will le you all know if it runs, fingers crossed
-
Thanks for the heads up I'll be sure to try the regulator next if the stator's not at fault. I went for the stator due to the lack of output from it so fingers crossed I was right when it returns this week.
-
Already check those parts out and both were fine. Cheers
-
Stator is going away next week I'll update you when its back.
-
Yeah did it at source as you say. Yellow wire from the stator to the regulator.
-
Bit of an update, Checked the stator for any kind of output and when the engine is kicked over I get between 2 and 5 volts from it. So is that enough ?

Will do Paul, for reference what year is your mates 300, and what ignition system has it mine 2004 Ducati type ignition

I have a 2004 Txt Pro 280 and for no reason the engine died mid section and would not restart, Suspecting the Spark plug I changed that and still no spark. So Kill switch disconnected No spark, wiring all good no corosion on earths or multi plugs. So any one had the same problem ? or is there any body in the Sheffield area that has the same Model of bike that would be willing to try my CDI and Regulator on thier bike to check mine. I suspect its the Stator but not sure if this is a common fault or not. Help and ideas please.

It has to be MOT'd leagally

Got a pair of these boots from santa, they are end of line boots and a new version is out soon, but I think great value for money, comfy to start with new so should get better with use.

Another good tip is to pull the clutch lever in and hold it with a cable tie to the bars, this seperates the clutch plates and allows the dirty oil to run out from between them. I usually do this and let it drain overnight if possible.
-
Did you do this after or before the fault ? The idle or slow running jet is in the carb at the side of the main jet, you may be able to see it after removing the float bowl drain bung if not the bowl will have to be removed. As for the idle screw are sure its not the mixture screw? Mixture screw has a spring on it, start by turning it fully in until liightly seated then turn it out 2.5 turns this will give you starting point once its idling try small adjustments in or out on this screw to give it a smoother idle. dont dismiss it being a sprk plug problem either a rich mixture (choke on) will hide the fact that the spark is weak.
-
Sounds like a blocked pilot jet or something simple like the idle screw needs adjusting to set tick over. Has it cut out while on choke? if it has then maybe the needle valve is stuck and preventing fuel from entering the carb float chamber.

Maybe ill try and wrap my knees with it I seem to damage them more than the levers lol
-
I guess your talking about PTFE tape great idea though

Maybe my "First Trial" thread should have been "My First Trial whats the Future hold" well it seems a like it will be a obsession of looking at undergrowth and rockeries. Lol. Gunna try your cure Jon, sounds like a winner

Well I've done it and got the "T" shirt lol and bruisers, graizesand the aches are starting already but I'm still smiling about the experience. The trial was at Wosborough and run by Barnsley trial club, I found the organisers and fellow competitors freindly and willing to help,or offer advice. Managed to complete all 40 sections, albeit in a strange order, Made a hash of a few, crashed on others and took a few of 5's in the first 2 laps, Laps 3+4 were better and 5's turned into 3's then 2's+1's but not many. Although I did manage to clean section 1, 4 times but I think every one might have. So the story so far is I've ridden the Gas Gas 4 times done 1 trial (Yellow routes) and I'm hooked on it. Thanks to all the organisers and observers for their help and encouragement. Phil

Doing my first trial tommorrow, Hope its not my last

Bit the bullet and ordered some new fork springs and at

are the wiring connectors to the removed light insulated could be that they are shorted together this may kill the spark.
