  1. I knew a rider on the Sherco 80. He wasn't impressed. It used the "old" full sized frame which for lads of that age is a bit too big. The engine wasn't that good either. The Beta REV50 or 80 are the main options as the GasGas 80 is also a bit big.
  2. Some people do talk garbage!!! We had ours supplied via the guy who did Wiggy's when he rode 125 GasGas and as he said it's no use having all the power in the world if the shock cannot control the rear wheel. And that's what the Ohlins does better than the Sachs and Paoili on the back of the Gasser and Beta. Our's has been back and rebuilt and repaired since and has been brilliant. Nathan Wigglesworth had one fitted to the back of his Beta and he loves it. I suspect the Yellow Spring isn't the correct one. The Ohlins on the back of my Son's 300 GasGas has a black Spring and He's about your weight. Check via TrialsUK as they supply the different springs. I suspect you need either the 60N which is for 10 stone or probably better the 70N which is 13 Stone and then adjust to taste. Oh and as for Showa. They are a good shock on the Montesa but I wouldn't put one on a Beta.
  3. This weekends Novice Beginners will have a OSET course with a start time of 10am. The venue is Rockingstones Quarry See website for directions.
  4. The BUMPY Trial is off. The Clerk of the course is unable to set out so it has been cancelled. West Leeds will be on at the usual Post Hill Venue at 1pm. All classes including Small Wheel.

    Beta Suspension

I do know a few riders who have had a Ohlins shock made for the rear of the EVO. Seems to be a mod most like. As for the Forks surely someone must do a Head and clamps that would fit the EVO and Marzocchis??
  6. Had this problem for a couple of years until we switched to a DID rim. In our case it went down slowly though so could be different. One thing I have heard is that IRC are not cleaning the Mould "swarf" off the tyre bead so that a seal cannot be held properly. Those who "know" are using a dremmel to clean this off.
  7. I've emailed the seller and reported the incorrect listing to Ebay.
  8. Basically Air cooled engines rev like crazy until they burn off any remaining fuel. Liquid Cooled just die.
  9. Appears to be down again. Anybody let them know???
  10. Sorry to hear Ben got hurt Minding for Dibs at the World round. Not the thing to happen to one of the nicest guys in Trials.
  11. I've seen Phil Frizzell at a few trials around Barnsley but he tends to turn up around "Humberside" these days. He was in the Army but left a few years ago.
  12. Looks like the 2011 GasGas Brake seals are even better than I thought. The Problem appears to be a "bent" Brake lever. I'd also say that the Rear Mudguards are made of the same stuff Aircraft "Black Boxes" are made of.
  13. There are a number of differences. The 2008 GasGas had a new frame which improved the bike's stability and lowered the weight. The Engine is pretty linear in power delivery but has a lot of top end and you need to rev it to access the power. Keep on top of maintenance and you'll have few problems. The Kick start gears, specifically the "bart" simpson cog can go if you are rough with starting and if you have a problem with gears you need to get it looked at ASAP. That box is a work of art but if something does go wrong you need to get it fixed. It's the "trick" bike of the three easy to get the front and rear bouncing around and move in a section. 2008 was the last year of the REV-3. I think the bike gained the Kehin carb and it had the "slimmer" petrol tank. Only problems centred on the rear brake linkage which is a bit fragile. The engine is pretty strong low down but can be a bit "fuffy" as the revs climb. Basically it doesn't seem to "clear" it's throat as well as the other bikes. Doesn't Bounce like the other two either but a "steady" bike and could be made to dance in the right hands. The Sherco was the "old" frame style as well. not as many around in the UK but pretty bulletproof. The problems with the Mains bearing's seemed to have been solved or were not as prevalent. A good 2T oil helps. The Airbox sits under the rear mudguard so if you break it in the wrong place you can have problems. Not as good as the GasGas at "Trick" riding but better than the Beta. As for the 2009 bikes the GasGas is pretty similar but he Beta went to the "EVO" frame. PeterH summed thta bike up pretty well and the engine didn't "fluff" as much. Improved Trick riding as well as the new frame is lighter. The later the EVO the better the carbaration. The 2011 GasGas frame is more stable and the Airbox is cleaner and has improved the running of the engine as well. The New Rear Brake master cylinder is also an improvement. My Son went though the "old" kits every 4 months or so. the new one has lasted 8 and although it has failed is still getting the back end to stop. The Sherco didn't change until 2010. This is a very different bike and size wise suits the younger riders. The only problem's I have heard of are to do with fuel delivery which affects a few bikes. Get a good one though and it should be OK. The 2012 shows where the problem was in that the Carb angle is now similar to the Beta and GasGas. the 2010 and 2011 carb's have a rather "flat" installation which seems to effect the float. Lastly buy on condition. If you know the owner and how it is maintained even better!! If the bike you are thinking of finishes trials that tends to indicate a good level of general reliability.

On the Sunday All Yeadon-Guiseley Members are welcome to enter the Team Fun Trial. Members will be paired up with a Youth to compete on the famous Brimham Rocks course. Of course you can ride solo if you wish or all the Youths have a partner.
  15. Both TrialsUK and Splatshop carry Ohlins shocks for Beta's Sherco's and Gas Gas. I don't think there is a part Number for Lampkins.
  16. There is a local family who use take their grandson's on the local footpath, (disused railway line), that has "wardens" they have no trouble as they, (the wardens), see them as a "toy". Providing the power stays below a certain level they are treated as any other electric toy. The Police are only interested if they are involved in an incident where they consider there was a lack of "supervision".
  17. The Ohlins tends to be "compliant" allowing the back end to move in a smoother manner. As such the Sachs tends to feel a bit "digital" moving in a series of movements rather than one. As a suspension guy said ir means the power you put though the back wheel is more usable as the wheel hugs the ground better. I'd expect the Reiger to be similar to an Ohlins but in a smaller lighter package, hence the extra expense.
  18. As I posted in a "Pistonheads" thread some people have too much "information" and not enough Knowledge. The Radiation is pretty much a non-event as it fell back to "normal" again. As for Earthquakes well they are pretty "normal" for Japan. I suspect Beta have taken the decision as I don't think Dibs would be put off.
  19. Depends on their age I suppose but see if you can borrow a OSET?
  20. Got to admit it's a tough one. The Yorkshire Centre does tend to be a Hot bed for Trials generally and Small Wheeling is a bit of a speciality for Yeadon Guiseley, Ripon and Richmond. Horsfroth and Spen Valley have also joined in and YG and Spen have riders from Wales travelling to their OSET events.

    evo ohlins

Try TrialsUK. You will need to supply your weight and height as they are sprung for the individual rider.
  22. No results posted for the Trial yet but I know they had a very good OSET entry including a rider from Wales and one young rider on a Small Wheeler. Seems that the riders are out there looking for a ride!!
  23. I suspect that cost is the big factor here. The Reiger is an Expensive shock. I have heard that it's a very expensive spare part on the Raga's.
  24. All the rounds except the last one, Dunsford Wings and Wheels, are free according to the web link.
