  1. RAM is the memory available to run XP and then any other programs which include all those little icons in the system tray. It's the "Sticks" that are on the system board. 128 is not enough to run XP and any other system processes(which is what those Icons are along with others) and expect anything else you load to run quickly. That 18 mb would become 140ish if you went up to 256 and around 350 if you went to 512 which is a lot of room to run the programs. SDRAM is nowdays considered slow as the speed it runs at is 133Mhz which is much slower than the processor. Hence it has to buffer and write to disk more than the newer, faster DDR RAM in order to do the same work. Your system board should be able to support DDR RAM but you'll have to check the Speed. Originally "2100" DDR RAM was used but the type(and its speed), have changed and 2700 and 3200 are common on Newer PC's. These run at 400Mhz. As Everybody has (delightedly), pointed out some of that memory could be being used by Spybots, Ad software, trojans and Viri. None of them are good. Ad-Aware, Spybot Search And Destroy do sweep most of them away. Add a good Free Anti-virus and you should be safe. and hopefully a bit quicker.
  2. Just waiting for the Grammer Police to mosy on by!!!
  3. Much as the Speed of the Processor seems slow the real problem here is the Memory. You need at least 256MB and should have 512MB to run XP properly. Once you have done that you will see a great improvement in the performance. If the PC can run DDR RAM then try getting some as that is better than the SDRAM I think you are using. Processor speed is always seen as the bottle neck but I've seen XP run very well on 750Mhz Laptops so I don't see the Processor being the problem.
  4. Has all the Prize winners, Trophy News and dates for the 2006 Prize giving dinner.Yeadon Guiseley
  5. As a matter of interest, when it gets to club level what rules do other countries run?
  6. Get one with a Hydraulic clutch. They do seem a lot better than the standard cable which according to those I have talked to is a bit inconsistant as to where it "bites". Also although I have seen Experts riding them they have to be careful on the bigger rocks. Good club bike tho.
  7. Over the new year every trial seems to have had a photographer there with Photo's available either "on-site" or from a web-site. It's an interesting new development and looking at the photos they are doing a good job. Not up to Andy's standard but definitely interesting.
  8. Full Results are now on Yeadon Guiseley website. Now available as PDF or Word formats.
  9. Coming from Bicycle Trials You will suit the Gas Gas PRO better than Most of the other bikes on the market. As for the engine that depends! the 200(actually 160cc) suits a lot of people as the bike allows you to do most sections without overpowering them, but the 250 is also a very good bike, just steady on the throttle. If you fancy a different bike then try it! Better still try them all! One could surprise you.
  10. You and Nigella love it then!! NYL has had Forma's, Sidi's Novogar's and he's currently on some Hebo Tech TR-2's . The Forma's were very stiff boots and held together but maybe were not the most comfortable. The Sidi's were the Silver boots and wore very well. He still uses the Novogars for practice and despite some wear around the ankle area have worn pretty well. The Hebo's have a Waterproof "sock" inside and are in Nubuck. He's only had them a month and is treating them with kid gloves but they seem to be very very good.
  11. NYL likes the IRC and round here we get rocks. We do know somebody who had trouble with Vee Rubber's, He couldn't get it to stay on the rim.
  12. We have it in PC format but it does not work under XP!!! Only Windows 2000 or less. And yes I have tried loading and running in 98 emulation mode.
  13. Seen it twice this week. In James Lampkin's hands at Howden Wood and Ben Hemingway's at Dob Park. Looks like any 2007 Rev. Has a muted "bark" but nothing like the 4RT. In All seem's Sorted "out of the Box" as a club/National bike whereas the Sherco and Scorpa are a "work-in-progress". Having said that there does only seem to be one of them about at the moment.
  14. Looked more like a footrest failure. Jim Lampkin had to delve under the ramps to find it after kicking the Montesa in disgust!!
  15. Hi all, I've sent the Full results to Andy but here's the top three on each Course. 16. Yep The regs and Entry Form are now available on the Yeadon-Guiseley Website. Closing date 3rd February 2007.
  17. Just come back From Yeadon-Guiseley's Champions Night (5 British and European Champions!!), and the results are Up on Barnsley's web site! Barnsley
  18. We use Castrol XR77. High end oil and price but we never have any problems. Used it in The REV50, Sherco 125 and the current GAS GAS 125 and we just do not need to do much with the engines.
  19. So there I am, I have the weeks to Christmas off, (been working weekends), and am determined not to miss the third attempt at delivering my new Hi-Fi stand I have been waiting a month for. So no loo, no shower, nothing. I am watching the BBC's "Homes under the Hammer" while I am waiting. Now last week somebody bought a Building in Knaresborough and My Brother appears in it as He's doing the rebuild of the upper two storeys into flats. This morning there's a house in Pateley Bridge and I'm thinking who's that bidding. I rewind the PVR and look again! It's only a major Trials Importer who promptly disappears off the scene as He's bidding on behalf of another!! Next week Andy buying the Highlands????
  20. It WILL be worthwhile when the new Chips and Transmission method start. Even more stations at quality around that of FM.
  21. Just a quick warning about DAB. OFCOM who oversee DAB are in the process of changing the Way that the signal is compressed, or to those more technically minded MP2 is being dropped and replaced by the new AAC+ codec. The reasons are two-fold, the current codec mp2 is part of the original MPEG-1 specification and the audio quality is basically rubbish. Secondly nobody in Europe is prepared to continue DAB in it's current form because of reason one. The French and Irish out the fatal blow in by refusing to use the current DAB system while having a sly dig at OFCOM's persistence in promoting the current system. Basically using MP2 the minimum broadcast transmission rate to achieve good quality sound is 192kbps. Because more stations are being licensed in order to get them in, rates have been dropping on music stations to 128kbps and on speech to as low as 64kpbs. Hence FM still sounds superior. Using AAC+ 64kpbs achieves the same (or better) result as 192kbps due to the music compression algorithm being much more efficient. The rub is that becuase the MP2 signal will be switched off in the nearish future(2012 is been mooted), most DAB radios will have to be upgraded to the new algorithm or scrapped. So if you do buy one make sure it has a USB input for upgrade. Or wait until Spring when New chips will be installed in DAB radios.
  22. Of the Aprilia or 314R I've seen both on local trials and the Climber if it's in good nick might be the better bet. Most still seem able to get thru a club section quite nicely where a 314 seems like a heavy beast.
  23. And I was the guy on the brand new 07 Beta covered in bodge tape that you offered a re-ride to after a guy got in the way just before the top step. Most riders are a bit shy about asking for a re-run but I always offer if I feel you been impeded or even just put off. If I remember the first would have been a three and the re-ride netted a one which I feel justified the decision and gave you a fairer result. As for the queues, section 6 had a few people waiting but it was a longish section. I also saw a few waiting at 10. Neither were ridiculous tho and NYL was as usual chatting away to keep himself occupied.
  24. They are usually up within a couple of days. It looks a good venue although like all quarries you have to know where the edge is!!! As promised NYL was there, (and I was Section 5 observer), despite him being under the weather due to a bout of tonsilitis. Try keeping any young rider away!!!
