Chris tried one when he started out. The seat is quite tall compared to "modern" bikes. He could be ok on it but be aware the lower weight better handling and brakes of more modern bikes could dis-hearten him. I have seen a very good one go very well in the hands of an expert. But a lot of times they are a handful for the less experienced rider. If he wants to "suck it and see" it's a reasonable bet but don't expect it to be as rideable as a new bike.
  2. Saw one today at the Barnsley trial at Thurlstone. It looks like a Sherco but doesn't if you see what I mean.
  3. Not giving you any grief at all Andy. I have promised Chris(North Yorks Lad) that I'll enter him in the close B class trials before a Last year attempt. The confusion seems to be that The ACU are listing National B class in one list and not in the other. I think John needs to clear this up as it looks like 11 rounds instaed of 8.
  4. 2006 will be the last 250cc year. In 2007 it will be down to 125.
  5. Sorry for being a pain but we still have Youth A&B Nationals listed that are not on the Championship list?
  6. I have noticed that some of the A&B Nationals are on the Main Calendar but not on the List at the end. For example the Mansfield Maun Date on the 28th of may and the Bradford date on the 11th of June. Any reason for this???
  7. Ah! The February date was accepted then. Means an earlier start for the A/B Runners this year!!
  8. The Academy was only available from November 2004.
  9. http://www.scaryfastracing.net/ These I presume. Looks like a good idea but which one would fit a Kehlin?
  10. So a Kelhin Carb seems to be the way to go. The problem is whats with taking it down from 28mm to 27 or even 26mm???? Is this a sleeve or what?
  11. HAd Alex Wigg at the YG Club trial today. I was told he is running 9 front and 46 rear in green of course!!

  13. You can also see if your club has tickets. They usually have a block set of seats in a good location usually they don't charge the booking fee either!
  14. They don't have one as yet but if you contact Tony Kaye at <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> (<mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central>), he can give you any details. Also the trial dates are appearing in TMX.
  15. The Clubs not been running long and the Venue was new but a great trial! Parking proved to be a problem as a lot of riders turned out but the event was well run and had the novelty of taped sections(a la "World and National" trials), this is a great idea and hopefully they can keep it up. The sections were in a wood with a small dry valley. This is a quick run thru of the "club" sections. Section 1 was a twist in and out of a small gulley with some small "bombholes" and humps to make it interesting before finishing by riding along the gulley and then up and out thru the exit gates. Two was a ride down in to a small valley then back up the bank across the top avoiding a couple of well placed trees then back down and out. Section three was a ride along the bottom thena right turn up the bank. Ride along a "ledge" to where the flags allowed a ride over a pair of rocks or along the lower leaf floor. Not a good idea to use the bottom it just went away, and the rocks needed to be dropped off just right to get the exit without the front wheel sliding away. Four to seven were climbs up the valley bank with twists and turns thru trees, roots and those "mini-quarries" you sometimes get on wooded ground. The ground was "loamey" but gripped well. Of note in these setions were sections 5(i think) and 7. 5 was a turn aoround a tree up the bank and turn under a tree to descend and then turn back up the bank before dropping down. The grip on the second ascent was there but needed a smooth throttle hand and weight back to avoid "paddling" out. A few couldn't make the descent turn as well and a few bikes went down the hill sans rider. Section 7 A flat entry with a left turn up the bank with a small step that had a very short run up followed by a quick turn right caught a lot of riders out. Any hesitation on the throttle on the bank and the step, although small stopped the bike. Section 8 was a niggly snake thru the trees descending before putting the riders over a small pattch of rocks to get back up to another turn round a tree beofre dropping again and exiting up another patch of rocks and out. Section 9 Probably took most marks thru the day. Set up just above the valley floor in a cut out, The entry was over a 8 inch high rock between trees. Then on to a short flat section with scattered rocks(and they got even more scattered), before a short turn climbing up the side of the hill over a flat 3 foot rock that looked to be just part of the pull up the climb. It turned lethal as there was no grip on it at all. Faill to get momemtum up this and the roots on the rest of the climb stopped the bike if it hadn't already gone on the rock itself. Once you got over that you u turned around a tree at the top dropping back to the cut's floor before left turning up a gentle slope and coming back along the floor of the cut and up the bank on the other side. The sting at the end being you had to u-turn and exit at the top of the cut. Section 10 was another 90 degree left up a bank with a sump grounding hump at the top dropping into a quick right turn followed by a left up a short bank before turning right again and slotting out of the section. Back to Section one and four laps later you had finished. In all a good day out and a compact trial. I was told that the land has even more potential once a bit of clearing has taken place. Congratulations to The Barnsley club!!
  16. Being the first section It was the longest wait but I think the longest was 10 mins. Don't forget you have to check it out first, and you get the benefit of watching the first set of riders go thru and chatting in the queue, the overall wait could be 30 mins. Some riders went to section 6 or 7 to start as they don't like queueing , this is acceptable at this level although at "centre" level only do it if the Clerk of the course indicates it's ok.
  17. Yep Chris was there. Seemed like a very good entry with a lot of riders on the Novices course. See the Horsforth Website for results. www.horsforthtrials.co.uk
  18. Personally I think it's a good idea to get a spanish rider in. As well as setting the standard, its showing we are willing to take oversea riders into our events without any prejudice.(PS Best of luck Jack).
  19. Looks like most factories are gently dropping the 200's. None in the Beta catalogue this year and the Sherco is an user fitted upgrade. Only leaves the Gas Gas.
  20. If you can't "get on" with Hard grips then the domino's seem a good compromise. The Renthal soft grips tend to split and let in the muck and also move on the bars(yes I used the glue. These Domino's seem to be immune and the end hasn't fallen out yet.
  21. The "Not" bit will drag in searches on the other bikes. I.E. You search for a Beta it will bring up anything with Beta in that title even if it has that "not" in the title.
  22. Are the "foreign" entries by invitation? It's good to see the trial attract them
  23. There are a couple of Beginners on this weekend. Yeadon-Guiseley at Deer Park just outside of Bingley and Horsforth At Tong between Leeds and Bradford. The Horsforth also has a "novices" course for those working their way up the ladder. Usually a little more difficult than the club rounds but worth looking at while you go round the beginners. www.yeadon-guiseley.co.uk www.Horsforthtrials.co.uk
  24. Boyd you have mail at your work account. I have a distaught kid who is adamant he rode section 14 even describing the journey to it!
  25. Chris has just had some Blue Domino grips added to his bars. They have a hard core and a soft grip. Cost
