I think its better than that doesn't the term "teddy bear" come from US president Teddy Rosevelt (sp?). So its ok to have your kids toys named after a leader of the "Great Satan" but if you give it a local name it break out the flogging kit ...

Here's a funny thing, companies get the employees they deserve, you treat people badly they will respond appropriately. Fundamentally companies train people to improve/maintain their business and profitability the fact that the individual gets an improved CV is second order. Also it tends to be the case that with training comes additional work/responsibility so in these cases an increase in salary is not an unreasonable expectation on the employees part.
Using Andy T as an example, he is clearly unhappy about being asked to train in which he sees no personal benfit, either in terms of pay or the softer issues (general recognition, status, other benefits etc). This is against a background of not being impressed with his boss/company. He has been with the company for 18 years and made a significant commitment to the company and sees no "recognition" for this. Management is just like any profession, you don't just wake up one morning & you are good at it, sounds like Andy's manager thinks he is, or he is simply behaving in the manner in which the company wants him to, either way they are not getting the best out of their people. Question for Andy, is it just you who is p$$ed off or are there others?
Adam Ant, interesting view on where bad managers come from, in my experience is is more often "promotion to incompetence" Just because an individual is the top person in a department does not mean he/she is top choice for the new manager and will hit the ground running (how many top football managers were middle order players?)
Last point, Again Adam Ant (sorry I am not picking on you!) you talk about negotiation, you run a company and clearly see this as part of the deal, some people do, some don't. Those that don't need to be accommodated because they still do good work.
It is a manager perogative to manage, that means recognising problems and fixing them, you do this by communication properly and acting fairly. Most employees just want to do a decent days work, be treated with respect and paid fairly.

Just read the RYP instructions and the one thing I seem to remember doing (I think) was removing the swing arm spindle and pulling the whole swinging arm well away from the frame to give me more room. It is tight though. Also the one thing I wished I had done before taking the engine out was to loosen the clutch center nut, primary drive gear and flywheel nuts, the frame makes a good vise. I seem to remember doing a little gentle levering but no big hammer stuff was required.
Suggest you wait for some more replies before doing what I think I did !
Best of luck .... Mike

Stick a couple of old socks on the rubber hand grips, it stops them marking the roof lining when you are moving it about getting it to fit. I also found it handy to have a thin bit of ali or ply to put under the side stand as it seems to be in just the right place to go into the hole where the catches for the seats are/go.
-
I can get my Rev 3 in the wifes Berlingo Multispace by just tipping the seats forward & if I remember my Sherco 290 went in as well (not together !). So you may be able to get yours in OK (have to admit its a bit tight though). Have to say she got a bit cross about all the mud I left in there so I brought a trailer in the end !

Barry, I wouldn't give up a night out on the lash just to concentrate on LWD
Slapshot you are of course correct, will phone BMW tomorrow to see if they will lend me a couple of bikes

Couldn't agree more, somehow lacks the adventure of Long Way Round. Two blokes get 3 months off work, free bikes, all the nause of arranging travel done by somebody else and all they seem to do is bloody moan. Will probably still watch as there is not much else on Sundays.
Agree Ted Simon (Jupiter's Travels) is way better, also I used to enjoy Dan Walsh's stuff in Bike Mag - example here: Dan Walsh article

Found this which I thought interesting, by my estimation there could be more of a problem selling an item (if it were shown to be a copy) in the UK than in the rest of Europe, assuming a design is not registered.

I ended up with IRC Rear, Mitch front but please don't take this as a recommendation. I am sure there are better riders than me who know the ground you ride on and can give decent advise. My point is that the V Rubber tyres are (compared to proper brands) not very good at all, and I think you would regret the purchase long after you had though you had got a bargain, I did!.... Rgds Mike

Don't touch them, I bought a set, used them for one trial & then took them off. They are significantly narrower and the tread depth is less than a popper trials tyre, they don't grip. Thankfully I can find a home for mine on my old enduro bike. I am an over weight, over aged wobbler & even I can tell the difference !!!! IMHO Save yourself some money and just buy the one set ! Hope this helps .... Mike
