  1. Thanks Betarick, mine has steel liner which I assumed would take a rebore, somebody else told me pretty much the same thing as you just did so I guess I need to phone Langcourt's in the new year.
  2. I have just brought myself a 200 with a top end rattle, I removed the barrel & checked the ring gap a) at the very top of the barrel and then immediatly below the step, and there is a 0.5mm diffrence which I think tells me it needs a rebore. all the bearings seem fine, so; Any thoughts before I go spend my money on a rebore? What oversizes are available for the 200? (2002 model if that matters) I was surprised to find the bike has a steel liner, I had assumed it would be nickasil. Anyhow thanks in advance, and a happy new year to all.
  3. No idea why but mine does it and always has, change of oil will improve it some as will letting it warm up for a couple of mintes. If you search aound the site you may find some reccomendations for oil which improve/solve it. Personally I stick ATF in and remember to let it warm up, stick it first on a slippery surface & then dab the rear brake (having launched it into a bush once I tend to remember now !)

  5. You will probably find the charger is a swithched mode power supply to accomodate that range of input voltages. In which case it wont go pop.
  6. Put some liquid soap on the part, heat till the soap goes black, its ready to be straightened.
  7. Actually its an abreviation. Now is it the society of pedants or the pedants society?

  9. Happy to report that a 6mm (approx 6 degree) retarding of the ignition worked a treat. Softens the power and it actually seems to start a little easier. Thanks Copemech
  10. Scotty, try this fella for plastics PE Owners Club He charges you a
  11. Scotty I have a 79 PE which is being subjected to the longest running rebuild in history, but to come to the point I have a Suzuki handbook which gives some tech details which I have scanned. PM me if you want a copy. Also have a few road tests. The bike was a wedding present (basket case) 15 Years ago so can't sell it. Try Crooks Suzuki or the PE owners club for spares. Oh and if you need a new saddle you are in for a hunt !
  12. Copemech - thanks for taking the time to explain, hope to get into the garage tonite and make the adjustment, then test at the weekend...
  13. Gents Thanks for the replys. I just pulled the flywheel off and measured the diameter of the plate and did the rough maths. 1.5 mm movement at the circumference of the plate is equal to about 1.4 degrees and 6 mm is equal to 6 degrees by my recconing, Any thoughts on what a 6 degree retardation will do ? Also as the bike is at the moment the lock screws are well towards the left hand end of the slot (when looking at the top 12o/c slot) very much as it looks in the RYP how to do it PDF file. Is this roughly what standard timing looks like ? Thanks again ... Mike
  14. I want to have a go at retarding the timing on my 2001 290. I have read the advise on the RYP web site so know how to go about it, but would appreciate some advise on how much I should rotate the plate by (distance?). I could do without having to take the thing to bits a numer of times. Thanks, Mike
  15. To explore the problem from a different perspective, grip is the ability to exploit the coefficient of friction that exists between the tyre and the section surface at any given time. The higher that coefficient the easier (say) the climb becomes. The coefficient will vary according to: 1) Tyre construction. Which goes some way to supporting the argument that some brands have better performance than others in different conditions. 2) The section surface e.g. mud, wet rocks, tree roots or other riders 3) The ability to maintain consistent contact between the tyre and section surface. This is a function of suspension i.e. the wheel not bouncing up and down; a wheel in the air has no grip, and. The rear wheel having the correct angular velocity,. a spinning wheel represents a lack of grip. So you need the right tyre, correctly set up suspension and good throttle control, bet you didn’t know that …. Which leads me to my question, seeing as I know the stuff above to a reasonable degree of scientific depth, why do I still ride like a t**t?

  23. Google "RYPUSA" (Ryan Young Products) have a mooch around and you should find all the info you need.
  24. I agree with bikespace except make up a frame or 2"X 2" timber so the sprocket or hub is up off of the floor before you put your weight on the shovel. As an alternative I have heard people who use those ratchet type cramps to break the bead. As for re-seating it when its turned, the wise men of this forum seem to go for the Yomee ring thing (me I used an inner tube)
