  1. it has a bit of wear in it. and i will prolly get it gone at a later date, as i want the bike done for xmas..... hopfuly i have done the back hub today and although i don't look as bad its in better working order than the front
  2. http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa200/cooltracey/IMG_2852.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa200/cooltracey/IMG_2853.jpg just a bit more i have been doing. can't get the frame done for a few weeks so its bits and bobs
  3. On to the very dodgy looking swingarm.. it needs welding, it is bent and it need new bushes. I will be seeing someone at the weekend to straighten and weld this as well as the frame, as i want to get it painted and start rebuilding it

    199A alloy tank

what ever it is the body shop will remove it, and sand back to the sound metal. Once there is a good base they will paint over that.. so no need to worry

Powder coating is the Herpies of the bike rebuilding world..
  6. It's bugging me now.. i'll make one this week if i get time. I have always got a bike in the house in bits so this ain't a big problem. my sons grass track bike is mostly in bits all over the house.
  7. i just sorted out the paper work and the engine and chassis number are the same. as well as checking the frame and engine.. It's not a great problem as i'm keeping the bike for myself. as long as its 90% i'll be happy with it, and the few bits that i have done i'm happy with.. so i'll keep building and improving it. i'm working on making a new engine steady this week, and the frame does need work, so the little changes i'll be happy with. if anyone can tell me how long the head steady should be i would be grateful..
  8. The primer is is a two-pack,epoxy resin based, strontium chromate primer, salt spray test @ 600 hours and and a two-pack epoxy top coat for good adhesion and high chemical and water resistance, tested @ 1000 hours fluid
  9. hope this might help. i have only stripped the bike and do not know the history or anything about it. the engine and chassis numbers are the same, and its a 1975 model, 150.. 250 slimline. and thats all i know realy. its not a bad bike and i got it cheap to do up and to use for my first trials. The more i look at this now the more i think i'lll change it. Would't be over hard to make a T piece and a bar from the T piece that would bolt to the head and a bar to go from the head to the frame.. Have to leave this one with me for a bit...
  10. For some reason not known to me, its to far foward on the frame. the engine and frame are the same number so... aint got a clue. will post a pic of it where it came off.
  11. still trying to get as much done as pose. this is the air filter as it was, bit rusty and the paint was flaking off, the spring and plate was rusty and the sponge was breaking up. This was done today.. been blasted and had a few coats off primer and loads of paint,The plate under the filter sponge, and the spring have been stripped and plated as well. i could see these getting covered in mud all the time so both paint and plating are over the top as protection, and a new sponge was added.
  12. still doing bits and bobs as you can see. bars and rims are going to be black anodised for the time being. The wheel spindles have been treated and plated and the threads have been coated in dry film lube. the rest of it it just tarting up the paintwork.. still waiting for the swing arm to be sorted. then its that and the frame..
  13. hi.. all seems quiet at the mo... i,m trying to restore my sherpa. its tough going
  14. just putting a few bits together ready for when i do the rest
  15. The top and bottom yokes are painted because they was in a bad state and to polish them would have took to much off them. The bottom of the forks was pitted and had deep groves in them. Also i want to use and abuse the bike, and the paint on there being aero/space will stick most anything and any weather. The brackets started of black as i was going to do the bike in the red and black paint job. . only because i could get the paint for free... but looking at the bike again i desided to do it in the same silver and blue with most of the ally anodised.. In all i cant follow the rules and make it how it was, as it has lots that need doing.. but i can still make it a very nice and tidy sherpa that i'm not afrade to use. A few years back i had a gsxr 7/11 streetfighter which had all its ally polished, and to be honest it was a nightmare. I do all my own painting and anodising so just a good loooking bike will do me for my first time at trials. Hope this helps anyone that has been looking and if anyone needs to know anything feel free to ask

    Hi

i'm a noob as well. so i will say hi
  17. Done a few bits today. and hoping to break the wheels in the next few weeks for anodising
  18. just a quick q.. if you put petrol down the plug hole does it fire up..
  19. i have been working on this for a bit, but must knock on now so thought i would show a few bits i done.. As you can see, some of these i have not done them as well as i could, and the reason for this is the bike is going to be my first go at trials, so its going to get abused and on top of that i did't want a bike i would be scared to use. The bike is all there just needs bearings and a tidy up as well as a bit of welding and its on to the paint. Doing the forks at work in the next few days and will hopfuly put a pick up.. next is the swing are which i have removed the bearing and need to get new ones. then paint for that and the frame.. forgot to say the bike is a sherpa t model 150 slimline 250. the year is 1975
  20. If the plug is dry, it's normaly the carb. But in your case you say the plug is wet. and you have a spark. could be firing in the wrong place. on the older bikes that had a keyway. if that broke the timing would go out
  21. Will still a few months yet. but will look foward to seeing you guys, need a few bearings and a respray first
  22. Would like to say hi from essex, and although a member for a while myself and my son have just got around to owning trials bikes. My son already races at grass track but he was looking for something to do in the winter, and has got a gasgas jtx. and myself being rather mad and old have gotten an bultaco. which may i add i love already. So anyway i got a sherpa and its all there and has now been stripped, and i have already started rebuilding it. and at this point would like to add i work for a plating company and am an aerospace paint sprayer.. say no more. I have already been to poles wood a few times and only live a few miles away, so it looks like thats going to be my training ground in a few months to come. would be happy in the near future in joining groups who go there once a month, and looking to do a few trials with my son over the winter it the bultaco is up to it. lol hope to see some of you soon. stu and russell
  23. hi guys and gals i just thought i better put a few words as i'm a bit new to this forum my name is stuart and i'm a 46 years young areospace paint sptayer and plater from essex uk athough i'm not new to bikes, did some enduro many years ago and i still ride my vfr 800 two to three times a week, and go to grasstrack most weeks as my son rides, i thought it's time i had some fun, so i,m going to invest in a trilas outfit, i'm looking to get an older bike as i realy love renovating old stuff , and my job makes this even beter so something like a bultaco , will have to see on this o whats about, and although i may not be riding this year, i will hopfuly be ready in the new year... and cant wait any input would be nice guys and if anyone in the essex area that would be up for a chat, well that would be a great help.. anyway guys got to go find bikes for sale and talk soon

    Grips

ooer first post.. the problem with grips is they need to be wet to get on and bone dry to stay on. i like the dry type no glue needed. so the best way i found and works every time is spray clutch and brake cleaner it evaporates real quick like a degreaser so spray loads in the grip and push on as fast as possible. the grip is bone dry inside in a few secs and will not move. add wire if required
