It's amazing what she'll allow when you have a BLT Plonker
-
mmm.. the Ossa BLT Plonker. The innovative rear suspension design by American Joe Bolger Bolger Long Travel.
Designed to try and reduce the amount of unsprung weight, and to position the shockers in a less vulnerable place, I agree it looks strange but not as daft as it looks, the guy was New Englands Motocross Champion in many different classes throughout the 60's and 70's so he knew what he was doing. Apparently!
I'll leave it up to our American friends to fill in the gaps...

I think I'm 'barred'

mmmmm
Know what you mean...Moidart looking towards Ballahuilish from Ruba Ruadh
Brilliant pictures, you've sussed how to shrink it now you just have to work out how to bottle it, then sit back and watch the money come rolling in.
Ahhh! yes, just how I remember it.

Pipers Burn very slippery early on, Rhubarb another classic especially if you finish the day with a clean, infact any of the sections on the Friday run are good to watch and brilliant to ride.
And the views around the penninsula are priceless.
What is the name of those first sections on the friday where you turn left off the main road near Glenfinan, was it Doire Dhamh? the first one was quite easy but the last one was a right pig up a big nasty step.

I thought about my 'Loc Loc Loc' reply last night and I didn't just mean Lagnaha I meant the whole trial, it is takes place 'in my opinion' in one of the most amazingly scenic parts of the world bar none. The thing that draws the spectators is the same thing that brings Ishy all the way across the pond. I know it probably sounds like I am stating the obvious and I don't want to sound patronising in anyway but the 'buzz' that the Scottish creates is not just reserved for the riders. I am not able to ride anymore but there are two trials that still give me butterflies when the regs come out , the Scottish is one and the Scott is the other and I have great memories of both events, I often cross Rannoch Moor and the Grouse Moor.
From a spectators point of view I think that 'we' get as much enjoyment out of seeing a well earned fighting lock to lock clean ride by 'John Smith' as we do a brilliant flowing clean from Dougie, Graham or Steve, after all the achievment of Kinell etc come the end of the week is all relative, you can only do your best, like all competitons there can only be one winner!
From a riders perspective the unique thing with the Scottish is the way you get to know the spectators faces throughout the week, these are people you don't know from 'Adam' on the Monday but come Saturday you can share a bit of banter or just a simple hello with. Much the same with the observers.
Anyway thats my two penneth for what its worth, I hope I don't give this topic the kiss of death as I seem to have an uncanny knack of doing.
Long live the Scottish, and on a slightly different topic, to all you lucky enough be riding don't look too deep into the politics of who should and shouldn't be riding just enjoy it!!!!!!

Three words, Location Location Location. Its not all about the riders.
And yes Andy, the Bank Holiday does explain the popularity of Lagnaha.
-
Hi fellas,
I think this could be one of the bikes being discussed.
Can anyone put a name to the rider, Reynolds, Griffo, John Metcalfe ???
Or does that leg belong to you STU ?
Hope this link works, as it is my first attempt with the dreaded 'Bucket'

"watch you dont go into that hole on the left" were the very words he said to me that day on that very section, but I think I just managed to get my front wheel through the ends cards before falling in a massive heap all through avoiding 'said hole on left'!
ok then I'll give you a clue, the only Chairlift I'll be riding this year will be a 'Stannah' and I hope that bugger makes it through the ends cards!
Why did they change the name from 'Kentallen' to 'Lagnaha' was it just because the farm was called Lagnaha??
..and before Punch and Judy start No! I'm not Thora Hird!!!!!
-
Yes I remember that route too 'Baldilocks' infact I can still picture Norman Pickles puffing on his pipe while observing that loose rocky gully, good on you Norman!
-
Baldilocks,
were you on a JCM in 86 ?
And yes it was bloody wet in 92' especially in the 'Alex' if I remember right!
-
It always makes me laugh reading the Tubless tyre dilemas, because it reminds me of my first Beta TR34 which was probably one of the first bikes to have a tubeless tyres on and it was a complete mystery to us how to deal with the bloody things, and the problem still rears its ugly head even today 20 years later,
It makes me wonder how we managed back then without all these gadgets, becauase it used to be nothing more than a good 'dig' with the heel of your Alpinestar that did the trick.
Getting it back on was always fun, sometimes they would pop out first time and yet other times It could take half a day.
Yes BB the ratchet strap was a last resort after you had tried every other way including shaking the whole wheel like a mad man in the hope it might just seal, and yes it was fun trying to find the release button on the strap before as you say the dam thing flew off and belted you!
Never resorted to the angle grinder though Perce
Good luck Vaughan you are not on your own!

Hi jonnyp,
thanks for your input, on the subject of there only being a few left of the 55 or so made, I would almost bet my house that this is one of them!

Victor type 'Lyta' petrol tank.
Top tube under tank.
Alloy oil tank.
Capacitor ignition ( energy transfer originally )
Alloy trials silencer.
Footrest position.
Big dural rear sprocket.
Late type front frame with strengthening gussets.
Cranked rear subframe.
could be wrong but it looks pretty much like one to me, going bloody cheap too especially if you get them both !!!!!!!!!
-
Yeah ban minders it's all their fault, what do they call that bloody tart that started all this minding mallarky off anyway????????
Somebody Miller I think he was called, whatever became of him is he still involved in the sport in anyway, I doubt it he's probably in LA or somewhere making dodgy movies.
-
Sorry to hear that Mike,
I hope you get reunited with your bike again before too long, and hopefully in the same condition.
I think you will stand more chance on here than relying on help from Officer Dibble and Co.
As you say it's your fault for not keeping it in an underground bunker!!
-
Deeead maaan waaalking!!!!!!!
What you mean is you are still surveying your quantity well to put it bluntly divide it by TWO, only joking Boyd, shes a very lucky Lady
-
When does Boyd walk the green mile, or has he done it?

Yes nice job well done mate, it does'nt resemble the first pic at all 10/10
-
Yes have to agree with yo there 'BO' very sobering indeed,
It just rams it home that we have nothing to complain about at all we have no idea what hardship and suffering is how can a simple plastic and paper 'Poppy' mean so much.
As they say these days RESPECT!
Nice touch with the header Andy.
-
Hi Steve,
not sure if I rode in 92' like you it all seems a bit hazy these days but I definatly know I rode in 93' because I have just found the results why the hell we keep them I'll never know but it just shows they do come in handy eventually and apparently I finished 6th.
I do remember you riding but I wouldn't say I knew you all that well as I came from 'UP NORTH!'
Any ideas
-
The Banbury 'NOBAC' I remember it well, was Rob Warner riding one at the same time?
