If it makes you feel any better I snapped my front spindle too, and I was no where near any sand,so I'm with you it was a design fault!!!!!!
-
No problem, just got to put 30 years worth of photos away now!
I think I've got lower trials bars on too,did they not have high bars originally?
-
Yep, I remember em !
I remember unwrapping it on Christmas day and thought I'd got a motorbike didn't notice there wasn't an engine
They were really high geared and as you say bloody heavy,so we geared it down by making a smaller front sprocket and putting a massive free-wheel on the back, after that it was brilliant for 'tracking' and the seat was big enough for two so you could take you mates on the back !!!!
Happy days
Did Bill Wilk sell em?
No designer gear back then boys and girls, just wellies, jeans and off you go!

Hi GG,
I think it is a 'National Park' so NO Motorcycles at all as it would jeopardize the future of the SSDT!
We were on mountain bikes.(Hard work going up,brilliant coming down, a 4404ft long section )
Lewis,I need some help here )
over to you HIGHLAND LASSIE
-
It was, and just look at the bloody size of the midges up there
-
Hi GG,
I would say its probably about 2/3 of the way up maybe a bit more,I cant comment on the Netherlands but in my opinion Scotland takes some beating, even with the rain.
Anybody who rides in the SSDT is very privileged, its just a shame you don't really have time to take in the amazing scenery during the trial,I think its only when you no longer ride that you realize how fortunate you really were.
-
The 'BEN' keeping an eye on the Fort!
It puts everything into perspective dont you think?
-
Hebo used to make these, don't know if they still do, ring Shirty.

Hi 348,
here goes with my bit of help, firstly if it has'nt got a disc on the front it isn't a pinky (unless it has had it removed for some reason).Pinky's were prduced with a disc on the front and a drum at the rear as standard and both front and rear hubs were silver unlike all the earlier TY's which had black hubs.
I think they came out late 91, I bought one new in 92 and in my opinion they were and still are a very very good bike.I would say the best way to date the bike is to get in touch with Yamaha UK and give them the frame and engine nos, or a Yamaha main agent could possibly help.
( Could be wrong about this but I believe the frame nos started 4AJ*000001 )
-
Fantastic, he should get a Special First Class Award dont you think?
-
How long has he been involved with the trial?
-
Tom Leggatt, not sure it is the right spelling, but yes was there last year. A real charachter, used to come in a Robin Reliant, not anymore, but it's a hell of a long way from the South of England in a 3 wheeler on the A an B roads.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Thats it, I thought it was Tom or something like that did he really come from down south in that Robin?
-
On a lighter note we have just been reminiscing about the SSDT back in the early 90's and I wondered if the little fella in the brown robin reliant is still around and involved with the trial.
He was a real character and used to start each rider off in the morning and do the time control at the end of each day.
I can't remember his name, anyone who rode back then will remember him though
-
I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to 'Slippery' (one of the most colourful pesonalities ever to grace Fort William) for the defamation of his character!
And I hope that whatever night the TC booze up takes place, you all have a jolly good time
-
Oh dear Slip, looks like things have got very serious up in the Highlands
-
Hi,
We have one that came brand new with white Preston Petty mudguards fitted as standard, and going off the frame number it was one of the very early ones.
On the subject of frame and engine numbers do all you Seeley owners bikes have matching fme/eng numbers or was it just pot luck.
I know it sounds unusual but ours don't and that is how it came?
-
How Dare you acuse me of Cheating!!!!! it was snowing at the time if you can remember and my little tooties were cold that's all nothing sinister

Hi,
I've just been reading your topic and found these old pictures in a report on SVM Monos and thought they might be of help to you.

It used to be compulsory when I rode, infact the part during the day was a hell of a lot shorter than the night shift!
And if thats the very same slippery that used to ride, (well I say ride) when I did then you will know what I'm saying, but then it was OK if you had a chauffeur to take you to Chairlift on the Thursday run !!!!!!!
Does this ring any bells?????
