seandellear
Hi all I have just recently purchased a brand knew 2006 gasgas 125 which was super cheap! Iam buying it off a well trusted bike shop owner in my local club and he said he will prep it for me and I am going to pick iyt up this weekend! I was just wondering what you gasgas guys do to your bikes when you first get them apart from the rear suspension? From what I have heard when a dealer says they will prep it for you they usually just threaten the swing arm and stuff with grease and so I have been told the first thing i should do is grease the swing arm! iS THIS REALLY NESSESSARY! (******* caps lock) Cheers sean

(******* caps lock) Cheers sean You don't have to do anything except what you want to. I persnally would spend my first weekend riding. Then i would spend maybe a day or two doing all the necessary jobs which will give my gasser (or shrco or whatever ) a great start and prevent problems. I think Julian Wigg spends something like 4 days on Alexz's bikes before they use them in competition.
baldilocks
I'd just check things like the gear lever, brake pedal, kickstart and sprocket bolts are tight and that it has oil and coolant. The dealer should check all this but it will only take 5 mins and then you get to ride your bike all day. I think the linkage has seals in anyway so it should be fine for a first run out. enjoy and go easy on the revs !
seandellear
Thanks everyone! Yer I definately want to spend the day riding the thing but was worried I should do some work on it first! yet another question (but only a little one.lol) How long do I need to ride it gently to run it in? Cheers sean
coxy
run it in for bout 3-4 hours at 100:1 mixture and run this mixture for 3-6 weeks and slowly run it in slowly giving it more and more revs over time but take your time

nigel dabster
I think I got great advice 5/6 years ago with my first sherco. I was told by the supplying dealer to run it in with a gallon of mineral oil, say 40: 1. As none of my bikes have suffered much bore wear or big ends I think this was good advice, once run in I revert to synthetic.

pumpkin trials
Don't forget if you are riding very wet trials or lots of rivers the air box has been pretty much sorted but i always seal up in the back of the air box where the rear guard fits in and also where the 2 parts of the air box meet just below the guard the best thing i have found is the black sealant used to bed car windows - sicoflex 50 or something similar it lasts longer than silicone and doesn't fall out as quick Edited September 15, 2006 by pumpkin trials

I am sure shirty has a pdi list that the dealers do somewhere, you could do alot worse than go through that if your dealer hasn't. Have a look on the GG uk website??? bigwig
Go to Gas Gas UK website you will find02 PRO check list. This will be a start but I'm sure Kev at GGUK did a pre Scottish set up sheet and a dealer set up sheet. To add a little to these ,its a good idea to flush out the tank and clean the tap filter and carb because there is sometimes flux residues in the tank. Also check there is no homologation restrictor in the air filter and that the tank breather is in the right way round.Last thing for me to add is to make certain that the rubber protection flap is under the tank not pushed above the rear of the tank blocking air flow to the intake. I punch an extra hole in it and cable tie it down to the engine stay.Mixture we run 50 :1 and oil our air filters properly, there is no championship to run as little oil as you can. Our bikes rev to the moon and after a years hard use, still have the machining marks on the piston!!! The PRO is a fantastic bike but must be looked after properly and I.m sure you will be as happy with it as we have been.
seandellear
Yes I have definately been very happy with my 03! Been great fun! Bigwig:What premix oil dou you run in Alexz's bike and what filter oil do you use? thanks Nigel Dabster Yes I would never run my bike on such a weak mixture i usually run between 60 and 65:1 Thanks everyone this has been a great help and cleared everything up for me! Cheers sean Edit: another question for your expertise bigwig(sorry) what oil do you use in Alexz's gearbox? and do you have a set amount you put in every time? also do you run standard unleaded or super unleaded or what? sorry for all the questions but I just really want to get the best out of my bike! Once again this is very much appriciated i cant thank you guys enough! Edited September 15, 2006 by seandellear
north_yorkshire_lad
we use Motul dextron 3 (i think) in ours works great and we run castrol xr 77 in our fuel and keeps the bike running perfectly. N.Y.L

seandellear
Hey again! got he bike on sat! washed the tank out, oiled the air filter cleaned the carb out and tank tap then mixed up some 50:1 fuel to start to run it on and fired it up! It started first kick but from cold and when warmed up if you blip the throttle wide open it just bogges (not making it screem just to getit to pick the reves up(if you know what i mean))! On the workshop videos to set the carb up the guy said to set it to a slow idle then close the mixture rite down then half a turn open blip the throttle, again if bog half turn open keep doing this until it doesnt bog anymore then when you get to this point half a turn a more he also said if the screww has to be opened more than tyhree turns of something it needs re-jetting. On my bike i have the screw almost completly out and it still bogs down! Is this because it needs re-jetting or will get better when run in? I live in west sussex, which i think is next to surrey so not many metres above sea level! Please can someone help me out? Many thanks sean
