joandemma
I was asked by a friend to try and weld up his clutch cover which was cracked. I am usually ok at aluminium welding, but this would not weld up at all, anyone know why not. Is is not aluminium. Case is off '05 Gasser. titanium
Is it magnesium?
seandellear
I am pretty sure that the cases were magnesium from some thing arond 02 onwards!
bigwig
Hi, You are right,as far as I am aware all GG Pro clutch casings are magnesium. I welded Alexz,s after Richmond national the other day. No problem at all using rods I got from Kent foundary some years ago. If you use even high mag alluminium rods you will get a result like Aero chocolate bar which will not take at all. Get pure magnesium or electron rods and anyone with a TIG set will do it easily. Electron is an early trade name for magesium reffered to in some early books, ie, electron crankcases on Norton,AJS,and JAP engines. On the day of the event I rammed a MARS bar into the gaping hole and finished the event with most of the oil still in the gearbox.
