bigdamo
I'm looking to start in trials but i need a bike which I'm looking to get soon.Which bike would be a good bike to start out on?I'm looking at a 2004 Gas Gas 280 would this be to much bike for me or would a 250 be better.I have been riding dirt bikes off and on for the last 35 years (moto-x and enduro)I had a KTM 300exc and could handle it but i was faster on a Honda XR 400(tamer bike)Could i add a flywheel weight to the Gas Gas 280 to tamer it down till i get used to it?Alot of the riders seem to have 280/300.Is there that much difference between the 250 and 280?Would a Sherco be a more user friendly bike to start out on?Sherco seem the most popular over here(Australia)Thanks
mostar
Hi there Gas Gas 280 would be a good bike to start out on , But It dose depend on the rider , You sound like you know how to handall the power , 200cc Gas Gas are more friendly and easy to start out on but you will out grow it in no time , If the 280 is a good buy then get it , I got a 04 300 GasGas and it took me 2 to 3 rides to get use to the bike , Good luck with your choice , Cheers

mostar
Yes, I have rode for over ten years , Rode in our top grade in NZ & rode your Aus Champs in 2003 , Had a GREAT time there , but now I just play & have a bit of fun , Have had , fantic , tyz , beta, montesa , scorpa , Gas Gas is more work to look after but the best bike I have had , I have rode a 280cc and It was nice , not much differnt than my 300cc , Best thing would be to test all the bikes you can and the one you like the most & go with it , Every one has differnt tastes, Cheers
coxy
i think that the 280 is the most snappy bike out of the 250,280 and 300 but a flywhell weight would calm it down alot but i think that a 250 would be good but just go to a trial and ask to have a go on some bikes and see what you like best or go to your nearest dealer
