steviec
Bit of a question to all you Beta experts I decided to remove the exhaust internals after riding today, no particular reason as the bikes been running great, just thought it was about time I checked it. When I removed it I found that there was shaft all packing in there, apart from a small black charred piece on the bottom. Question is, what effect will repacking it with new insulation have and what effect on the bike will having no packing in there have? Cheers Steve
barrybaines
Do NOT ride it without packing!!! we will loose all our riding ground instantley! and it`ll run crap what with having no back pressure. Repacking it if done correctly should just make it sound better (may notice a power differnce very small but only too do with the back pressure) and probably a little quieter depending on the amount used and the condition of the old stuff. When I done mine it made a good bike better as it had obviously been run very rich before so was a bit oily now with the newer packing in it`s nice and dry and has a nice crisp note. I am planning on doing mine again soon as I believe I should have packed a little more in when I first done it? But I cannot stress enough DO NOT ride it without any packing! jonno
hi bit of a silly question but is the packing something you buy specially or what is it?
barrybaines
I beleive you can buy it from Beta/Lampkins (depending on where you are) as a "slide in unit" or you can buy it by the bag or in sheet form from almost anywere BVM, trialsbits etc etc in my veiw and what i`ll do next is a combo of a sheet lock wired round the baffle then suff the loose stuf in around it
ruffrider
Yeah, I agree with Barry. I bought a sheet of the stuff, cost around a fiver - you should be able to get it from all bike shops doing off-road. If I remember right it took me far longer to get the old stuff out and clean up the gunk that to repack it with new. Took maybe 20mins to to repack it, Wrap the packing around the baffle, tie it with some wire with ends twisted together and stuff the whole lot back in. Sounds smoother, quieter and should run better.
steviec
Cheers for the replies lads In my defense, I didn't know it didn't have any packing in, I bought the bike from a dealer, secondhand admittedly, I just assumed it had some in. Just goes to show, should check these things. Steve
rick1
If you want to make the job really quick and simple do yourself a favor and by the packing from BETA. It is not that expensive and it is preformed so it fits in nice and quick with no hassel.
leggins
I packed my rev 3 exhaust today. I phoned lampkins who advised me to use approx half a bag of packing and not to ram the material in too hard. Must have taken me about 30 mins to do the job and a bag of packing material cost just Edited October 4, 2006 by leggins
