maximus
Just recently i have been experiencing problems with the engine cutting out. I have tried adjusting the idling speed, but this is very hit and miss. The problem only gets better after 2/3 hours of riding. Could there be a blockage anywhere? Any ideas would be fantastic! alan bechard
Start with basics first. New (correct) Plug Clean air filter Fresh Gas Clean Carb Good fuel flow (filter) Inspect wiring, connections etc Pull sidecover and check for moisture, corrosion etc. More often than not, when chasing down obscure problems, they can be found by going through the basics and looking closely. Either that, or pull the engine and rebuild it as Jeff would say.
the artist formerly known as ish
Not getting at you Maximus, but at best trying to diagnose a bike problem online using someone else's description of the symptoms is hard, and why for the most part I don't go near the tech topics, reading your post it could be after 2/3 hours of riding on a lawn mower for all we know. To get one of the tech lads on here to give you the best shot at solving the problem, you need to state all the symptoms, make ,model, hot/cold wet dry, everything possible to give the person doing the guessing the best shot at getting it right, cos that's what it is! a educated guess at best. maximus
Got ya ishy, i've got a gas gas tx 270. When starting the bike from cold it goes fine with full choke. When the choke is knocked off the bike just dies, after 1/2 minutes. I then turn the idle screw and it runs too much, however it does not maintain those revs for very long and once again the bike stalls. This scenario carries on for an hour until I eventually get a perfect idling speed and then it only cuts out occasionally! Any ideas? jtlaw1
Sounds like an air leak .
copemech
Remove the carburator and clean it. The idle passeges and jet must be clean. The smallest object/particle can block the passage thru the low speed jet and cause these symptoms. You should be able to see thru the jets when held to the light. This is in addition to Alan and JT's recommendations. First things first! If you are not sure how, contact your dealer or a local bike shop to inspect the carb. Cheers! jrsunt
It sounds like the carb needs cleaning out, Check all jets for blockages. Doesn't sound like air leaking, as that generally makes the rev flat out.
