2005 280 Pro Tuning

I recently switched from an 04 300 Pro to an 05 280 Pro.

The 280 has a lot less time on it and the engine, suspension and everything in general has a tighter, less worn feeling about it.

The power is smoother and more manageable. More predicatable as well.

The only problems are that I'm having a harder time balancing it than my year older 300. I'm sure there are slight differences in the two even though they are both Gas Gas and within a year model of each other.

The conclusion that I have come to is that the suspensusion is slightly stiffer on this bike than on the 04. making it take larger hits better but a tad more difficult to balance. I like that the new suspensions is more capable in the bigger stuff and don't really want to set it so soft that I lose that. Any advise on getting that happy medium or should I just ride and adapt?

Secondly, the clutch is harder to pull and harder to get adjusted where I can have the clutch engaged when pulled in to my finger and still able to disengage with totally letting go with my finger. I had the stiffness problem with my 04 and remidied it with an 06 spring. I'm not sure what to do about the release point. Any ideas?

The heavy pull is adjustable.

First by measuring the clutchplates pack as a whole. A thicker pack wld put more pressure on the disc-spring, hence heavier pull. Putting thinner clutchplates in wld releave that. Going over board in not enough thickness, clutch starting to slip when pulling 5/6 gear on the road.

The clutch adjustment.

By screwing in the piston of the mastercilinder you can build up pressure more rapidly. Going in too deep, hole won't get free when releasing lever and systempressure drops gradually, you loose clutch disengagement.

A new piston/o-ring will help tremendous in building up system pressure.
