Returning to trials after an eight year lay off and my memory ain't what it used to be! Hoping some kind sould can tell me the correct procedure for cleaning an air filter on a 2004 315 Mont? Carried out some routine maintainance at weekend and noticed that when riding on the Sunday that my previously superbly running motor was not a happy bunny. ticket2ride Posted December 14, 2006 Report Share Posted December 14, 2006 Hello.... ..and a warm welcome to the world of the 315...!! ...couple of things worth considering air filter wise: block off the holes in the mudguard with some metal gauze (helps keep the lions share of crap out)...I purchased a sieve and cut that up...found it to be the cheapest way of sourcing the wire mesh) ..when you put the mudguard on - try to seal the back of the airbox/mudguard a little better with some duct tape or similar.... when you put the airbox cover on, make sure you insert the filter into the cover first, with a small amount of grease to help adhesion/seal...... As far as cleaning the filter - I just use warm soapy water to clean in out...then air filter oil to recoat....kneeding it in with my hands to get a good coverage.... Also, make sure the little widget in the bottom of the airbox is cleaned out..... If the bike is running a little rough - I'd consider the usuals first.....jets and channels.... Hope that helps.... I'd basically followed your instructions but hadn't re - oiled the filter which probably accounts for the un happy engine. (Can't honestly see it being anything to do with jets etc). Next question is where can I get air filter oil from or is there an alternative until I can get my hands on the proper stuff? Cheers! The filter is only there to suspend the oil. I hope you haven't destroyed your motor. Yes, you need proper air filter oil. You can get it at any motorcycle shop (in person or online). Here are a tip plenty of people don't know: When rinsing out the air filter, always run the water from the engine side to the air side.
