Problem solved!!!

The lad checked the woodruff key and that was fine., so he decided to check all the electrical system over again.

He accidentally touched the HT lead and got a jolt. He found a small pinprick hole so opened it up and found that the carbon/copper core had disintegrated in one place so the spark had to jump a gap. This had got/was getting worse - so hopefully one new HT lead and all will be back to normal.
