Robbie is riding no 129, today's stage he finished 132nd out of 182 finishers in the bikes section - a pensioner ahead of 50 other riders - well impressive. toofasttim Posted January 11, 2007 Report Share Posted January 11, 2007 Sounds like Elmer went barrelling into a whoop section way too fast (Elmer did that sort of thing) or he suddenly found himself in a whoop section going way too fast (It's happened to me) and got hopelessly out of shape. I assume that he was "smote" by the bike. Dakar bikes are big beasts and getting whacked by one would probably be terminal. I never met Elmer but mates of mine who had said he was a helluva nice guy. He beat the perennial Ironman class favourite Mike Phillips by about 8 laps. He rode nearly as many laps as our six man team. After the race he still looked ready to ride. Rest in Peace Elmer.
