charliechitlins
Sorry if this has been discussed a million times..... Was recently riding a buddy's Montesa ('02 I think), and was surprised how grabby the clutch is compared to the gradual engagement of my bike. Is there a way to make the clutch less like an on/off switch. Otherwise, I LOVE the bike!
martin belair
Charlie, the stock Montesa clutch is very progressive. It has 4 cork and 3 friction plates. The friction plates give it a smooth engagement point. Does you friends bike have the stock plates in it? What oil is he using? ATF will make the clutch very quick and grabby. It is not recomended. We recomend Silkolene 75 wt "Light Gear oil Off-Road" or ELF HTX 740. I am glad that you like the bike. I like it too. madmax
My mate has owned many Montesa'a 315's and has never had a problem with the clutch, he says all that has to be done is use the ELF htx 740. I think that we over look that the clutch is a wear item , much like the tyres and brakes etc........after many years of hard use it needs to be replaced. My K-Roo has had a few clutch replacements and works brillant to this very day............MADMAX
montman
Fit a set of plates supplied by 'Haven' - Instant cure for my '01' Recommeded to me by someone who had the problem with a '98' and then when he updated to an '02' swapped the same plates from his outgoing machine and cured the same problem.
