Dicko's Take On The Thumpers

Well I don't know who Dicko is or what his take is. As a guy who recently got one (4rt) here is my take. First I really like my bike, but I don't think it is any better or worse than any of the new good 2t's, just different. It does some things better and some worse than a 2t. I love the fuel injection and the technology in the bike.

Unfortunately I see in the future do to regulations we will all have to be on four strokes. It will go the same way as the MX bikes where the manufactures continue to develop the 4 strokes and stop developing the 2 strokes so the 2t's get no better and the 4t's continue to develop and get better. I'm sure we will never see a new 2t trials motor.

I like 2 strokes and after having a 4 stroke for a few years I'm sure I would like a 2 stroke again. I have a 06' RM 250 that I plan on keeping because I know 2 stroke motocross development has stopped and it is as good as a 2 stroke will be, I see trials being there in about three years from that and that will be sad :icon_salut:

As for 50% of the bikes being 4 strokes by 07, If you take into account all the riders over 30 years old here in Southern California it is probably close to 50%. In fact there are four sets of us that the Dads have 4rt's and the kids have Beta 80's, one of them being former national champ Scott Head and his son William.

Sirhc:

Just want to say that I look forward to meeting you some day, perhaps at the Western Youth Nationals. I am an old friend of Scott Heads'. I am excited that he has his son riding too! If you see him next trial, please say hello from me, he is a great guy and perhaps the most under-rated of all the US Champs!

Cheers, Steve
