martin
Hi everyone, well here goes... in a few weeks you will all be smiling at another "old fart" attempting trials... well its not quite true, you see i competed regularly in the 1980's, but in 1987 my first son came along and that ended my trials career... in recent years I've been playing at landrover trials, and i have a few trophies to show for it. Landrovers are getting expensive, and believe it or not, my missus is nagging me to go back to bikes... she always loved going to trials, apparently. so here I am, about to get muddy again at 50 years old.... God i'm mad.. My last bike was an Aprilia TL310 hiro.... the next one is still to be purchased, but i'm tempted by an Aprilia 280 Rotax... ... so is there anywhere in the west mids that i can go for "official" practise these days, or do we just go over Cannock Chase? see you out there soon... Andy
Welcome to Trials Central. Just recently there has been discussion on these very forums about practice areas. Because of the tree-huggers and other bodies dead set on killing any form of off-road motorsport we have agreed to discourage talk in public about practice areas as the info can be abused. Your best bet is to join a Club and I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me on what's available in your locality will be along to advise
charlie
why on earth do you want a aprilla . 1000 quid should get you a 2001 beta or mont 315. move with the times.
bikespace
Welcome on board Martin - you found it then There is a fair bit going on in the midlands centre, although I'm an hour or so away, so there will be much more knowledgable people on here. Your best bet for finding out local trials clubs and suss out the lie of the land is start a thread in Uk Trials Talk and put midlands centre in the title. I'm sure you'll get a few bites and a stream of info coming back. You might be able to get some info by using a search on the existing forums. Not sure the Aprilia is what you're after, but I'll leave you to decide

scorpa3
Hi Martin, There are a few clubs who operate not too far from you who put on a very easy route for novices. This is by far the best way to have a good practice as you can watch other riders of a similar ability actually riding the section. Even then, if you don't like the look of a section you can ask for a five and move on to the next one. The other advantages of entering a trial is that you are fully legal, insured and able to chat to other riders, more often than not, you will get talking to someone who you probably know (who you didn't even realise did trials) who will give you the in's and out's of the sport. Look out for- Dudley Club at Kinlet (Nr Bewdley) who have a C route, Pete & Lynda are very friendly people and have a trial on 25th March. Stourbridge Club who have a very easy B route, Jeff wells is the man to speak to, he is very keen on easy trials. They have one at Shatterford (Nr Kidderminster) or Handley Childe on 31st March. Evesham Club who have a C route, Pete Wickham is the contact. They are running a trial near Evesham on 29th April. Stafford Auto who have an easy route, often at Milwich Farm, Steve Downe is the usual contact. They have an evening trial on 2nd June. Stratford Club at Top Farm near Broadway, speak to a grumpy old git (me) We will have four routes for the next one as it includes a round of the Midland Centre Youth Championship, and the D route has to be suitable for six year olds on small wheeled bikes, so there will definately be a route you fancy having a go at. Date 24th June. Email me if you need any further information. You are spoilt for choice a far as easy trials are concerned where you live, much better than riding around some wood wondering if you are going to upset someone. I hope this has helped. woody
As well as the ACU clubs mentioned, there is also the local AMCA who have a few trials clubs and meet not too far from you every Wednesday night somewhere in Burntwood or thereabouts. There are 2 trials you could go have a look at tomorrow locally, one as already mentioned is the ACU Dudley club at Kinlet, near Bewdley, the other is an AMCA trial at Liveridge farm, also near Bewdley (neat local calendar planning again...) Liveridge is found by going accross the bridge into Bewdley and turn left at the church onto High Street, then follow the lane and it will be signposted off there somewhere. As far as practise goes, there is one official site at Rugeley but I'm not sure what the situation is there at the moment, you'd need to contact the AMCA as it is affiliated to them. There is nowhere else unless you know any landowners who will let you ride. You will know more about Cannock Chase than I do but these days it is a big no-no (never was a yes, but I know locals with a bit of local knowledge used to use it) As far as buying a bike, if you want something cheap and cheerful to start back with, I can put you in touch with a mate of mine who has a good '94 TYZ Yam for sale for around
martin
Yeah I found it, thanks.... I'll be quietly catching up on things or the next week or so, then i'll get out and have a go.. Scared already, LOL.. so where are you if you're an hour from the Midlands? I actualy live in the forest of dean at the moment, but i'm in the middle of selling up to move back to the Wolverhampton area, my home area.. The solicitors tell me early April completion... I'm buying the Aprilia because I had a twin shock Aprilia years ago and liked it, ( see Avatar). I have never ridden a monoshock trials bike, i've never ridden with disk brakes, so i'm sure the Aprilia will be a huge leap forward for me. Maybe not the best bike about now, but I'm not the next british Champion either, LOL Thanks for your input, I'll keep an eye on the other group too..... bikespace
I'm just on the border of Mid Wales. A few of the midlands lads come over fairly regularly for our trials. I did near enough the same thing as you, last bike was a Fantic, then a 16 year gap before I had another go about 7 years ago. The other group, in case people think I'm moonlighting was a yahoo group I set up when I first started, and sits fairly dormant now. Every now and then someone finds it and I redirect them to Trials Central. See you around soon Martin.
