I remember the super bike six Mart and Malc battling it out for the win, busting the guts out of the little 125s in the road race, think Eddy Kid was among em too.

But the big question is!! will Doug be riding, and what are the odds for the win if he is, care for a bob or two on it

common phase i've heard

trials riders can ride mx and road racing

but road racers and mx cant ride trials seen it in books and heard it from lots of people

Don't tell Jordan Szokes that B) He's a Canadian Superbike roadracing champion and a top contended in the Canadian trials events (Expert), when he can attend.

I think you'd be surprised at most Pro motorcycle racers. In my experience most of those guys can ride nearly anything with wheels. Now, not at a Pro level mind, but certainly much better than most of us.

But which did he ride first? It's my guess he started in Trials before going road racing and still likes to keep his hand in. Riding Trials gives you a feel for a bike like no other sport and that can easily be translated into other sports.

I remeber my first go on a motorcross bike, within a few laps I was already quicker than most of the guys on the track, and I am one of the slower trials riders across the moors!

Look at how well Trials riders adapt to Enduro - Paul Edmonson, Juan Knight, Stefan Merriman, John Shirt, Wayne Braybrook to name just a few.

Moto 1 goes live!

Which one of our top Road Racers, Motocrossers, Supermoto, Trials and Enduro stars can cut it in all four disciplines

That's five disciplines, or is there a clue there as to one of the competitors?

Not sure. Bob Abell is around here time to time and could likely tell you, but I suspect he took it up later in life, might be wrong.

My point is, true top Pros have remarkable bike handling skills, and it takes them a remarkably short time to adapt to a new sport. Put a guy like Stefan Everts on a trials bike (assuming he doesn't already ride one) and I'll bet within weeks he's riding at a very high level. Same would go for Dougie Lampkin on an MX bike, or even RR.

I know many of the top MXers and Roadracers in N America now ride trials bikes for cross training. They might not have started on them, but take full advantage of the skills trials teaches.

I know, myself as an exMXer and exRR, that I've found trials has improved my "big bike" riding considerable. The effect was noticable almost immediately. Only wish I had discovered it 25yrs ago B)

I think you will find that trials riders can go forwards - MX - Supermoto - Road Racing

But Road Racers struggle to go backwards, from Road Racing to Trials

A lot of lads start with Trials, James Toseland is ex East Midland centre Trials Champion, Stefan Merriman rode for us (Malcolm Rathmell Sport) on Aprilia all those years ago...now World Enduro Champion.

The late David Jefferies started, as most did, on a TY80!

And yes there will be some top Enduro riders there....

It will be televised, Peter Duke from Duke Marketing is behind that side of things.

Back in 1978.....the original Superbike Six, it went down to being between Malcolm Rathmell and Mick Andrews......up against in that day Ron Haslam, Phil Reed, Eddie Kidd, Mart Lampkin to name a few......Dad was the eventual winner but had done a lot of practising before the event....you know what these riders are like....want to win everything!!

  • 1 month later...

One interesting rider we have signed up already is ex British Expert Trials Champions David Knight.

Adding to that 4 British Enduro titles and runner up in the World Enduro he should make for an interesting competitor!!
