stuessenhigh
Hi all, I might be looking at getting a Honda TLR 200. ANyone got any advice on these. Will I be able to find parts easy enough. Were there any drastic problems with this model. THanks in advance for any help
t-shock 250
If you are getting a 200, try not to get the white "reflex" model (steel rims, tall gearing etc) as this was more of a trail bike version than the red/blue TLR200. Parts are available from places like David Silver Spares at surprisingly cheap prices sometimes, but, being a Honda you won't need the same volume of spare parts as a Spanish twinshock. Use high quality oil and change it regularly, no more than 5 trials between oil changes max. Generally they are super-reliable and can find grip where other bikes struggle, the 200 is smoother and easier to ride than the 250, which can be a bit harsh off the bottom but has plenty of poke. Try http://www.hondatrial.de/ , it's in German but has pictures of all the Honda 4 stroke trials bikes. stuessenhigh
Thanks t-shock Thats really usefull info. In fact it is the white one...but i THINK I can get my hands on the red one also...so I will now try for that one...although, I think it needs a little more restoring, so your parts sources will also be very helpfull. gaff
Hi Stu, I had a play on one of these a couple of weeks ago, i was surprised just how flexible the engine was and how it handled for basically a standard bike, the steering reminded me of my RTL, just went where ever you pointed it. Another friend is rebuilding one, and apart from plastics (ie, the original Red), he does not seem to be having many problems. I was going to buy one myself, but other projects put paid to that. Gaff.
sparky
I use a 200 in the classic rounds and it is very reliable and fun to ride. when i need parts i use sandifords or birkettmotorsport both very reasonable and prompt service. But as t-shock has said very rarely need parts but must change the oil reguarly i use silkolene 4t. Birks sells some trick clutch plates for the 200 to stop the on /off feel of the originals.
