Hi everyone, I just bought my first trails bike which is a beta rev 3 250/ 2003 model and would like some help as the person i had it of didn't seem to know what way to turn the petrol on and off and reserve as he hadn't used it for awhile so any help would be great, Plus he was running the bike on a mix of 100ml castrol to 5 liter petrol is this ok or would it be better on 75 to 80ml to 5 liters any help would be great full thanks.

Not had a Beta for 4 weeks now and forgotten already, I think on is down and reserve forward. I would get a bottle of TTS and use 75ml in 5 litres of super unleaded. Be well worth repacking the silencer as well, about a 10 minute job and cheap to do, there are plenty of other things to improve the running but these should make a big difference to start.

Oh and sticking a BPR5ES plug in it should be better if its got a 7 already, ATF works great in the gearbox and remember not to stop the bike whilst pointing anything ressembling downhill or it might be a **** to start. If its leaking more fuel than the Exon Valdez there is a carb mod you can do on Heaths site (R2W) again quite simple to do.

My 03 rev3 did this, I gave the radiator a rinse through a couple of times, refilled with good straight antifreeze and it never did it again. I seem to remember a few other people saying that their bikes had done the same at the time. I'm not saying there isn't anything wrong with your bike because I haven't seen the sludge, but it might not be the cylinder head gasket / o rings.

Yep, I've had my current Rev3 just under a year (bought new) and while giving it a jolly good seeing-to recently I drained the rad to find loads of weird green sludge in there, especially around the rad cap area. Flushed it through with antifreeze and distilled water a couple of times and refilled with some "engine ice"-type stuff (I forget the name, it was recommended on another thread on here). I've checked a couple of times since and there's no sign of the sludge reappearing. The bike wasn't misbehaving at all at the time so I'm not sure that the sludge is an indication of anything sinister, more likely something to do with the type of coolant used at the factory.
