Flywheel Weight Or Head Spacer Or Both ?

Could anyone out there give me some feedback on the difference in engine response between standard, head spaced or flywheel weighted ? I kinda like my 280 as she is but being very novice like I was considering taming her down a bit until I improve my basic skills. Slow action throttle is in the post !

Any advice greatly appreciated, cheers.

GJ

Hi GJ,

I run a 2006 Raga 300, it was too quick as standard, bit of a handful up creeks. We haven't tried out any head spacers down this part of the World, but can vouch for the benefits of using the flywheel weight. After fitting a weight kit (comes with flywheel cover spacer), the motor was just the best for me. Very controllable up creeks, over slippy rocks, couldn't ask for a better responding motor. It has that bit more roll when shutting off over a step and has a more controllable low end rev response.

In my experience, the 280 has a fast responding motor and would benefit with the weight.

If your 280 is not an 03 model (with a flat slide DellOrto), you could also try fitting a D34 needle in lieu of the D36, it is a little richer at low revs and slows things down a little, doesn't work well on the 250 though.

Bye, PeterB.

What PeterB says is exactly right. I added a weight to my 06 Raga 300 and combined with a slow action throttle will make everything more controllable.

When riding streams the bike won't get away from you and you'll have what seems more time to steer the bike before actually getting to the obstacles.

If you decide to go the flywheel route I have an hebo/gas gas flywheel weight which is in the original box complete. It was used for 6 months but I

will no longer need it as I have gone 4 stroke.

Cheers.

Question on installation and reliability of 1mm head spacer.

1) Exactly what product did you use to seal the spacer to the cylinder?

2) Have their been any sealing problems between the cylinder or the head?

3) Has their been any erosion of the head spacer due to normal combustion.

4) Any hints or tips to make this installation better?

Thanks!!!
